In the Flesh
*few weeks later*
I'm quick to do my prechecks before my flight. I want to hurry and get in the air. I don't think I've ever wanted to get up high so bad. I mean I always want to be in the air, because I love the feeling. But the last few times have been different. I saw the jet a few weeks ago and I can only hope I will see it again. I can't guarantee I will see it, but I sure hope I do. I write up my report, checking the correct boxes, then I climb inside the cockpit. I give a mock salute to Drake and I start her up. My body vibrates along with the high-powered engine. My mask is on, my harness strapped, I'm ready to go. My jet slowly begins to move forward, driving down the tarmac to the flight deck. My heart is racing. I'm not sure why I'm nervous. I'm never nervous. I guess I'll figure it out on the way. I pick up speed getting ready to take to the skies.
I feel so free. I take a deep breath, close my eyes for a moment and take in the feeling. That feeling my friend, that is freedom. I'm light as a feather. The world below is disappearing. I own the sky. I have the power of flight. I love this feeling. The increase of pressure pushes me into the seat. I'm molding in. I'm in my happy place. But now I need to focus where I'm going. Don't want to hit any birds. It is not fun. Trust me. I know. It will forever scar me. I thought I was going to die that day. Enough of that, too depressing. Blah I hate being depressing.
*Team Prime*
"Prime!" Fowlers deep voice shouts through the speakers.
"Here, special agent Fowler." Primes baritone voice rings through the air.
"Send out your team. Lt Jane is in the air. I'll send you her route."
"Arcee, Bumblebee Roll out!" Prime orders. The two don't waste time and transform. The ground bridge fires up and the two race through.
"I hope nothing happens. Let me know if something does. Fowler out." The link goes dead.
"Should I call for Wheeljack?" Ratchet asks.
"No unless Dreadwing actually shows up. Arcee and Bumblebee can handle it."
The medic nods in agreement and goes back to work.
*Jane POV*
As I fly, I barely hear the sounds of another jet closing in. it isn't until it is on top of me that I see it. It's shadow looms over me. I stare at the large blue belly flying low above me. I'm in awe. I almost forget that I'm flying. I jerk my controls up as I notice I'm descending.
"Wow." I say out loud.
It flies a loop around me clearly showing off. I can't help but laugh as it continues to perform. Oh, how I wish I had his skill. He comes in front of me and holds. I watch in confusion, wondering what his next move is. It's when he starts to decent, I realize I've been following him. I'm surprised no one has contacted me, telling me I've flown off course.
I don't let it bother me and I keep myself focused on the jet in front of me. The trees begin to lessen, and a clearing comes into view. His landing gears open, so I open mine. I prepare to land and pray to god I don't mess this up. I fly to his side. Though, I look over hoping to see whose driving. With his deflecting gold cockpit, I can't see anything. So, I focus on landing instead. We both touch the dirt at the same time. I slow to a stop and wait. He continues to move until the jets nose is facing mine. I continue to wait, watching for his next move.
Minutes pass and nothing happens. Just when I'm about to take my mast off, his cockpit opens. A tall man jumps out wearing a blue and gold jumpsuit. He must love those colors or that's part of his uniform. He pulls off his sparkling royal blue helmet as he walks my way. It's hard to see facial features, but his hair is jet black with beautiful golden tips. It's short but the front is spiked with the gold. It sparkles in the sun. He's gorgeous. At least from far away. I can't wait to see up close.
He walks close, looking up at me. I take the unworded cue and pop my cockpit. The hydraulics hiss and moan. I pull my helmet and mask off. I set them next to me and look over. He's standing directly below me. Without having his shirt off, I know he's built under that suit. He has striking features and those eyes. They are red. A vibrant crimson. I could get lost in them. His face is serious but cracks a small grin at me staring.
"You going to come down?" He asks. His voice deep and husky.
The question felt more like a command, one I feel the need to comply.
"Sorry." I mumble before jumping to the ground below me.
He reaches out to grab me. This gesture from anyone would have surprised me. My father always said if I can't jump out of my own plane and land, I shouldn't be flying to begin with. Also, being in the military, no one helps you get out of your own jet. The man tries to catch me, but I'm on the ground already landing perfectly as ever. I see the hint of surprise before it vanishes from his face. I'm not sure if it's because I'm a girl or if it's because a girl was flying a military jet.
"Hi, I'm lieutenant Jane." I greet, reaching with my right hand.
"Lieutenant Dreadwing."
My hand hangs as he doesn't take it.
"That's an interesting name." I chuckle, awkwardly bringing my hand behind my head and scratching my neck.
"So is Jane." He says back to me.
"That's my last name. My first name is Rebecca." I can't help to stare at him for a moment.
"I love your flying." I blurt out and his cheeks turn a light pink.
"Thanks, I'd say I like yours too, but you fly like a newbie. No offence."
"None taken. I'm still learning. I've only flown passenger planes up until two years ago when I joined the Air Force. Only seen you fly around here a few times. Where are you stationed?"
"I'm not from around here. My unit travels a lot." He seemed to fumble over his words. Searching for the correct ones.
*Team Prime*
"We've spotted Dreadwing, he's flying up next to Lieutenant Jane." Arcee comms back to base.
"Keep them in your view, don't engage unless you sense danger." Prime orders back.
The comm link goes silent and Arcee and Bumblebee are back to racing after the two fighter jets. Both watch in confusion as Dreadwing does circles around the other jet.
"Is he showing off?" Arcee asks.
Bumblebee only sends back a small beeping response. They keep an eye as the two begin to make a descend to the ground.
"They are landing." Arcee reports.
"Do not contact, keep watch."
They watch closely as Dreadwing comes out in holoform. Arcee can't hold back and comms back to base and waits for instructions.
"Unless he starts to become violent, do not engage. When they part, we will have to pull her to the side. She may need protection she might not think she needs." Prime explains. So, the Autobots sit back and watch the two interact.
Jane jumps out of her cockpit and begins to converse with the holoform.
"What do you think they are talking about?"
Bee shrugs is shoulders up in the unknown.
*Jane's POV*
"Where did you learn to fly like that?" I walk out towards his jet. I want to see it up close.
"At the academy." He answers walking next to me, letting me lead.
"Oh, here in America or somewhere else?" I wonder, looking brightly up at him, stopping for a moment.
"Um no, overseas." His eyes search the ground, like he's searching again for the correct words.
"Well that's cool. Must have been an excellent school." I boost and walk again. I get up close to his royal blue jet.
"She's beautiful." I mumble under my breath. I hear Dreadwing cough a little and I turn to him.
"Are you apart of some Royal Navy or something?" I wonder as I caress the underneath of his jet. The jet seems to shudder at my touch. I immediately retract my hand and snap my head over to Dreadwing. He's blushing again. What is going on with this guy?
"No, I'm part of a secret fraction. I'm not aloud to talk about it. What are you doing out in this desert?" He changes the subject. I frown for a second but regain poster.
"I'm stationed out here. My base is a large landing strip not far from here." I explain pointing over the mountains. He follows my finger and nods.
He seems to go silent for a moment, his eyes lowering to the ground. He then looks away towards his jet, making me look that way too.
"I'm sorry but I must go." His face goes stern.
"What? But you just got here." I say frantically, stepping closer to him. He takes a step as well, closing the distance.
"I'm sure we will see each other again." He smirks, resting a hand on my cheek. I lean into his touch. His hands are so soft, almost unrealistically soft.
"I wish I could stay longer, but I'm sure you are needed back as well."
Way to sound so responsible.
"Yeah I'm sure they are trying to get ahold of me too." He pulls away and I walk around him, going towards my jet.
"When do you go on patrol next?" He turns around, looking seriously at me. I can't help the wide grin I let fall upon my face. I can feel the heat rise to my cheeks, like a furnace heating on the highest setting.
"I'll be in the air again next week Friday around the same time as today."
"Good, maybe I'll see you then."
"I look forward to it." I say as I walk backwards, giving him a small wave. He waves back and we both get in our respected aircraft.
I'm immediately bombarded with questions the minute I get back into the air.
"Where are you?"
"What's going on?"
"Are you being attacked."
Its as if my radio had been shut off, same goes for my tracking systems. Everything was turned off until I got back into the air.
"We couldn't track your location."
I couldn't barely get a word in, so I just headed back to base. I'm hoping this doesn't turn into anything serious.
*Team Prime*
"Agent Fowler, Dreadwing made contact, but did not show his true form. We do not know what his intentions are, but we will keep an eye on him." Optimus spoke into the link.
"Thank you Prime. I will keep a closer eye on her and let you know if she says anything. So far, she seems to think know one knows about her excursions." Agent Fowler replied. "Fowler, out."
And the link cut out. Optimus stood at the counsel thinking over what the cons intentions with the young lieutenant could be. It isn't until Arcee and Bumblebee roll in, is he distracted from this.
"Optimus, what do we do? From what it looked like, Dreadwing has no intentions of hurting her. He was just talking to her. He didn't even show her his true form." Arcee began to rattle off.
"We won't know unless we talk to him. I wonder if Megatron is behind this." Optimus wondered aloud.
"But what would he want with some human pilot?" Ratchet questioned with a scoff.
"I don't know. Only one way to find out."
"You want to contact Megatron about this?" Ratchet seemed flabbergasted.
"What else are we to do? We can't let this continue. What if Dreadwing has a purpose with the young pilot? We don't want anything to happen to her if we can stop it before it happens." Optimus proclaimed.
