Surprise Presents
Eiichi peeked into her room that night. She was sleeping soundly, which was precisely what he needed. He made his way downstairs where all the other members, aside Kira, are.
He threw a list onto the table. "Okay. In two days, it'll be Hikari's birthday. What are we gonna do for her?"
"Party?" Nagi suggested.
Van was the first to react to his sarcasm. "No duh! But what kind of party will it be?"
"Well, she doesn't seem the type to like those really big princess-like parties, so why not keep it small?" Eiji said, voicing his thoughts.
"Let's hold it out in the garden." Shion suggested. "She said she wanted to try stargazing."
"So we'll hold it at midnight or something?" Yamato said with an eyebrow raised.
"Actually, that sounds perfect!" Eiichi said, writting everything down. "What else should we do?"
They spent up until 1 am to plan everything, then they head for their own beds. Before Eiichi reached his though, he turned on his heel and let himself in Hikari's.
He layed down beside her and poked her cheek, making her open her eyes. She blinked up at him sleepily. "Hm?"
He smiled. "Sorry about waking you up, but I haven't got a single kiss from you today. Or well, yesterday."
She looked at him confused. She seemed to still be in a daze upon having woken up. He chuckled and pressed his lips on hers for a short while. When they parted, she seemed much more awake. "Eh..?"
He patted her head and removed his glasses. She let out a small smile as she wrapped her arms around him and he did the same to her. She had a small tint of pink on her cheeks as she pressed an ear to his chest, listening to the soft and steady heartbeat.
He smirked. "It was only one night. You missed me that much?" Her cheeks turned slightly redder as she nodded.
For that whole day, she was only able to see him once, at that was when he was practicing, so they only had a short exchange. That other girl seemed to find her as a bother, so she left before it causes any problems.
"Eiichi... remember when we talked about announcing our relationship?" She perked up a new topic.
"Mmhm." He nodded.
"Are you sure that's a good idea?" She looked up and saw his confused face. "I mean... The way I see it, your career is going really well. It might be ruined if we..."
"Well, I honestly don't mind either way, but announcing our relationship would make it easier for me to keep those other girls away." He said bluntly.
She snorted in a teasing manner. "I thought you liked being praised by every girl in the continent."
"I do, but it makes you unhappy, right?" She was slightly caught off guard by that. Now it was his turn to smirk. "You were clearly jealous earlier."
"She was clinging on your arm. I can't help it, so I left." She replied with a grunt.
"You should've glared back, at least." He stated, continuing to pat her head.
"That'll just make problems for you, though." She said, frowning.
He rolled his eyes. "Would you rather have me stolen from you then?" Right after he said it, he immediately regretted it.
Her head snapped up and she stared at him fearfully. "You wouldn't..."
He shook his head vigorously. "Of course not! I'm just saying, you should stick up for yourself more. There's a difference between being humble and putting yourself down."
She sighed and slowly nodded. "I'll... Keep that in mind."
He kissed her forehead as she wrapped her arms around him again and buried her face in his neck. She felt his hair tickle her nose and softly giggled.
What if his hair is made out of cinnamon? She fell asleep while thinking of such ridiculous thoughts.
~~~~~
"Happy birthday!"
Just as they planned, the party was held outside some time close to midnight. They had a late night barbeque, with Van and Yamato constantly fighting over the grill. Nagi had helped Eiji to prepare the cake and Shion worked on making the decorations. As far as she knew, Eiichi was working on a special present for her. She wasn't sure what it was as she never told him she wanted much of anything for her birthday.
"Hikari! Who's that box from? Was it Kira?" Nagi pointed at the box currently in her hands.
Hikari nodded. "Yeah. I haven't opened it yet. Should I do it now?"
"He'd want you to." Van said, smiling. Though in truth, he was just really curious about what's inside.
"Well, okay then. Here goes." She pulled on the ribbon to untie it and carefully lifted the lid. She gasped. "Wow... This... I didn't expect this..."
"A beautiful necklace." Shion said, staring at it with sparkling eyes.
"Look at the colour!" Nagi said, smiling. "It's blue, white and silver! HEAVENS' aesthetic colours!"
"A cresent moon with a star in the middle. Classic Kira. Looks cool, though." Yamato held a thumbs up.
Hikari looked up at him. "Yamato... I just realized, you're wearing a necklace too."
He nodded. "Yeah. It's the one you and Shion got me for my birthday, remember?"
She blinked at it. "A silver seven-pointed star." She looked at Shion. "Nice choice."
"Is this your first time wearing it?" Eiji asked the older male. "I've never seen you with it before."
"Nah." Yamato sighed, scratching the back of his neck. "I've been wearing it since I got it. I just keep it under my shirt. Though since it's your birthday and all, I thought it'll be better if I show it off a bit."
Van smirked. "Oh, was our tough Yamato shy about getting a present from our lovely manager?"
"Shut up, old man." He growled back at him.
"Or was it just because you forgot to buy her a present?"
"I told you to shut up! And you didn't get her anything either!"
"My present to Ka-chan is the wonderful barbeque we had earlier."
"That shouldn't count!"
The rest laughed as they continued to argue. While that was happening, she continued to open her presents. Nagi got her a small sized rubik, Eiji made a flower crown and Shion gave her a book about stars. She thanked each of them in turn and smiled as they all chat among themselves.
"Say, where's Eiichi?" Nagi piped up. "I haven't seen him since the barbeque."
"Preparing a surprise present maybe?" Shion suggested an answer.
"That does sound like him." Eiji said with a smile.
Hikari shifted. "I appreciate it and all, but I'd rather have everyone gathered than to get a present. I don't have anything I really want anyway."
"You sure about that?" Strong arms came and hugged her from behind.
She giggled. "Yeah, I'm sure. I'm satisfied with everything as of now. I got my surgery, I can see everyone just fine. What else could make me happier?"
"Eiichi what the hell are you wearing?" Van added.
Hikari turned around and found him in a grey tux suit and pants over a red and black shirt. She almost found herself blushing at how he looks.
He smiled. "Honestly, I got a call earlier to go to the studio and they told me to wear something formal."
She looked at him surprised. "You're going at this hour?"
"Yeah. Apparently, they want to do a night-time shoot for that show I'm in." He said with a shrug. Little by little, she became rather disappointed, which didn't go by unnoticed. "Which brings me to the next question. Wanna come with me?"
She blinked. "Can I?"
"Sure. They won't mind." He replied. "It's past midnight anyway, so there's bound to be not enough staff members. The more help, the better."
She smiled. "Okay. Should I wear something like you too?"
"No, you're not part of the cast so you're fine with just casual." He said.
She sighed in relief. "Thanks."
Not long afterwards, they left the building. When they reached the designated area, nearly every girl from the cast, in which there are about five or six, tried to swarm him.
"Otori-san! You look dashing!" And from that one, many compliments flew at him.
When Hikari got out of the limo, she stiffled a laugh. Until one of the girls saw her. It's the same one she ran into a few days ago. "Hey! I know you!"
Hikari smiled. "Hi again."
The other girls stopped to look at her. "Who are you?"
"I'm HEAVENS' manager, Sorano Hikari." She bowed. "Nice to meet you all."
"So you're that blind girl the staff keeps talking about?"
She laughed nervously. "Yeah. That's me."
Whispers erupted not only from the girls, but from the rest of the cast that heard them. She sweatdropped. Wow, predjudice much?
"Blind or not, she's our manager. And a good one at that." Eiichi said, pushing his glasses back up. "Be nice to her." Then he walked off to talk to the director.
The other girls looked back at her, making her sweatdrop again. One of them stepped up. "You're really plain."
"Yeah, I'm not that good with fasion to begin with." She replied casually.
"What's your relationship with Otori-san?"
"We're workmates."
"That's it?"
"Mmhm."
"Just make sure you know your place. Idols are not allowed to date."
With how unprofessional you girls are acting, shouldn't I be the one to say that to you? "Yeah, I know."
"Oi. Hikari!" Eiichi called her over and she nodded, running towards him.
The other girls glared at her, all with the same thoughts in mind. Did he just called her by her first name?
~~~~~
She didn't have to do much aside watch and carrying light equipment. It was a fairly quick shoot and she helped the staff to tidy up. She found Eiichi waiting for her in the parking lot. "Okay, we're clear." She said happily.
He nodded. "Sorry about taking you here. I wanted to spend time with you on your birthday, even if it's under working cicumstances."
"It's fine! I had fun!" She smiled. "Also, it was pretty funny to see you get swarmed every ten seconds."
"Working with those kinds of people can be a pain sometimes." He shrugged. "Oh well. Now that that's over, do you wanna go anywhere else?"
"Eh?"
"It's almost 3 am. Might as well have fun until sun rise, right? My schedule's empty until the afternoon tomorrow. Or uh... Today."
"But I don't really want to do anything." She replied with a frown. "I mean, maybe reading, but-"
"Are you guys gonna go on a date?" One of the previous girls walked up to them and leaned against the limo.
"No-"
"Maybe, what's it to you?" Hikari's eyes went wide at his reply.
The girl seemed surprised as well. "Eh?! W-well that's..." She glared at Hikari and stormed off.
He rolled his eyes. "Honestly, I can't believe I used to hang out with those kinds of people."
"... Wait, when?"
"Back at school, before and a little bit after I met you." He shook his head. "Really, looks aren't everything there is to a person. Ugh, I'm gonna cringe at myself."
She giggled. "Okay, do what you want. Let's just go home."
"You really don't want to go anywhere?"
"Nope. If I'm gonna stay up, I might as well just be in bed so when I fall asleep, I don't need to use effort to get into my room."
"What are you gonna do in bed?"
"Probably read- EIICHI THAT'S NOT FUNNY!" He spent the whole car ride teasing her, both verbally and physically.
~~~~~
When they got to her room, she took a book out of the shelf and dove straight to bed. Eiichi sat next to her, teaching her how to read some of the kanji she hasn't mastered yet. Whenever she got something wrong, he'd poke her sides, making her yelp. After a while though, she noticed he was getting more and more distracted. When she looked over, she noticed a small box he was fidgetting with. "Eii?"
He looked down at her and tossed the box over. "Go on and open it."
She caught it and looked at him with confusion before proceeding as told. When she saw what's inside, she felt her heart stop. "A... Ring?"
He nodded. "Yeah. I've had that for a while."
"A while...? When did you...?"
He layed himself beside her and patted her head. "I didn't buy it, ironicly. I got it. From my mother."
She blinked. "She got this...? For... Us...?"
"She must've bought it. This isn't what hers look like." He replied. "Eiji gave it to me when he moved in here. The note inside had my mom's handwriting. She said she was waiting for the invitation to the wedding. Heh."
"W-well..." She blushed, but then sighed. "I wish I could've met your mom. She sounds so nice."
"She is. She wanted to meet you too, but sadly, that never happened." Thanks dad. He thought sarcastically. He looked at her again. She still seemed to be attracted to the ring. He put up a fake scowl. "Hey, I look better than that ring and you don't give me half as much attention."
She stiffled a laugh and playfully slapped his arm. "You had enough attention for today." She took the ring out of the foam and sat up to put the box on her desk. She layed back down and fiddled with it for a bit. "Can I... Put it on?"
"You don't know how engagements work, do you?" He said with a smirk. He took the ring from her and held her left hand. "It's supposed to be the man who puts the ring on for you."
"... Oh." She stayed silent as he slipped it onto her ring finger. She stared at it for a while before smiling. "It's really pretty."
"Mm." He took off his glasses and kissed her forehead. "I know I was the one who suggested to stay up, but I think I'm gonna turn in. Night, angel."
Hikari nodded and after adjusting the ring a few times, she went back to reading. The next morning, Eiichi found her asleep with her left arm hugged to her chest. He smiled and closed his eyes once again.
