Sky

Kim was trying to hail a cab when I pulled by the curb. I didn't get out of the car, scared I would get a ticket if I parked by the red line. I grabbed my phone and sent her a quick text.

Next to the white BMW

She got her phone out her purse and frowned at the text. She looked up. I waved her over, opening up the trunk. She put her suitcase in the trunk and took a seat on the passenger side. I drove as she put her seat belt on.

"What happened?" She questioned.

I looked down at my lap, reading directions. "What do you mean?"

"I mean did your plans get canceled? You are supposed to be getting ready to see George," her eyes trailed down to what I was wearing, a sun dress, my hair slightly curled. She looked at my makeup and frowned. "Nice dress."

"It's new," I nodded my head.

"You bought a new dress to see me," Kim said, incredulously. I was itching to tell her the news. Why was it so hard to lie? I turned pink as I held in the truth. I nodded my head, skipping the song that was currently playing.

"Uh-huh, I bought a new dress. This is important. We only ever see each other once a year," I said. Kim chewed her nails beside me and I knew she didn't believe me.

"Okay, sure." She turned towards her window and looked out the view. I let out a small sigh of relief, careful Kim wouldn't hear me.

I continued to drive to the restaurant I'd picked out. I'd made the reservation out to my name. I kept driving, turning left on the road that would take me home. Kim stared at me. I was supposed to take a right. She didn't say anything, however. Finally, we arrived. I looked down at Kim's black t-shirt with a peace sign on it and her ripped up black skinny jeans.

She wasn't wearing any makeup either. I stared at her, my eyes growing ever so slightly.

"Maybe you should change," I said. I shut the engine off and opened up the trunk. I opened up her suitcase and looked through the things she'd brought. Not a single dress, not a one. "Kim," I let out shriek. "I told you to bring a dress!"

"You say a lot of things. At point, you thought there was only one type of tea," she said. She followed me out of the car and peered over her suitcase.

"Small mistake, easily made. Grab that skirt."

She ignored me, closing the suitcase. "Why?"

"I want you to look nice! Do it for the Instagram pictures, ehhh?" I asked. She looked at me. And I looked back at her, smiling.

"Instagram isn't going to see anything below my waist. And besides, I didn't shave," she told me. I was beginning to turn pink. This wasn't going as I'd planned, at all. She closed the trunk and looked through her purse. She brought out her red lipstick, applied some and looked herself on the car mirror.

"Okay, yeah, that's good," I said, dragging her along inside the restaurant. We walked up to the small podium, waiting for the host. We waited there for a moment, as the door opened up behind us. The hostess arrived, looking at me.

I walked up to her while Kim stayed behind.

"Mae, Skyler," I told her.

"Well, you look real rocker, don't ya?" A voice said. I didn't turn around to see where it came from. But it sounded familiar...

"Go to hell," Kim said.

"I will, in due time."

I turned around then, to see Kim's shocked expression as she met John. He shot her a grin as she scowled at him, her arms crossed over her chest.

"George is running a comb through his hair," John said, motioning to the cars parked outside. "You must be Skyler Mae."

I nodded at him, shaking his hand. "This is Kim." I motioned to Kim, standing beside him.

"Nice to meet you," he said, slightly tilting his head to get a better look at her.

"Yeah, you too," she replied. She looked at me and I managed to shoot her a smile, turning towards the hostess that was taking us towards our table. I turned as the door opened, George stepping inside. I stood frozen, my mouth slightly open. "Hey!"

"Skyler Mae!" He said. We stood there frozen, looking at each other. I debated whether to hug him or not, but he threw his arms around me and wrapped me up in a hug. He let go, smiling. And I realized he was smiling because of me.

Me.

Skyler freaking Mae.

We sat down. I slipped in the booth first, George next to me. Across from me sat Kim and next to her, John. The hostess gave us menus and said I'd our waitress would be there soon. I looked down at my menu, not sure what else to do.

"Did you have a good flight?" George asked. I frowned slightly. He wasn't talking to me. He was looking at Kim. John was looking at George look at Kim. And I was looking at George look at Kim.

She looked up. "You're talking to me?" John coughed, stifling a grin. "It was fine, they gave me some nuts."

"Oh, nuts," George replied.

Kim smiled at that. "Yours?"

"They have us some tea," he gave a little shrug.

"Don't you have your own jet?" I asked.

"It's not really mine. It's ours and it's not even that," George said. Our waitress came and took our drink orders, giving us more time to order what we wanted to eat.

"Are you playing here today?"

Kim looked up from her menu. "They are. It's all over the internet."

"Would you like to come? Really, it'd be great to have you two there," John said. My heartbeat threatened to burst from my chest. I was having dinner with George! And Kim! And John! And tonight I could see them live?

This was too much.

"We'd love to!" I looked at Kim, waiting for her to agree.

"Sure," she replied. I kicked her under the table, my eyes growing ever so slightly. I sent her a telepathic message hoping it would get through. Be happy, it said. She kicked me back harder, her lips in a scowl. I got her telepathic message clearly, I hate you.

.

George

I drove Sky's car to an arcade John had seen on our way to the restaurant. He was in the back seat, giving me directions. Sky was next to me, telling me about her favorite songs. Dinner had been nice, Skyler Mae had some jokes that made me crack up. And Kim seemed nice, though she didn't say very much, nor did she pay John any attention.

When we got to the arcade and paid, Kim and Sky went to the restroom. I don't know why girls go to the restroom in pairs, to be honest. John approached me as I was trying to make sense of a game.

"She's a drag," John said.

"Sky?" I asked.

John rolled his eyes. "Her bloody friend you set me up with. This is the last time I let you drag me anywhere. I'm having a rubbish time."

"Oh, shut up. Will you? That's her best friend you're talking about," I said.

"You aren't even shagging her and you're already defending her friend? You're whipped," John scoffed. I rolled my eyes, smiling at Sky. She was returning from the restroom, her friend beside her.

"How about a race?" Sky asked.

I looked at John. He looked back at me, pinching my arm. We smiled. "You two go along. Luv, why don't we give teacups a try?"

I slipped an arm around Sky as we both walked up the small race center. We waited in line as others raced in front of us. She titled her head, looking at me. She gave me a smile and I returned it. Goodness, she was smaller than I'd expected. But I didn't care.

Dynamite comes in small packages.

When the others got off the cars, I let Sky go first. She got inside a blue car. I went in after her, getting inside a red one. She gave me a thumbs up and I returned it.

"Over here!" I turned to look at Kim, her phone in her hand. We both gave thumps up again for the camera. We waited for the others to fill up the rest of the cars and then our cars started. I drove fast at first, Sky struggling to keep up.

Eventually though, I let her go past me. And when the race was over, she won. She got out of the car, jumping on an down. She walked up to me, her finger hitting my chest.

"Take that!"

I was laughing, my hand touching hers, stopping her finger from hitting me. (Even though it didn't hurt.) My hand slipped in hers so naturally, I didn't let go. We played different games in the arcade, teaming up at one point, against John and Kim.

We won.

.

Two hours later, Kim came up to me. Sky was gone getting us some fries. John was somewhere else playing another game.

"If you hurt her," she said, letting the rest of the sentence hanging. She was only slightly taller than Sky and it was hard to be intimidating by her. But I saw it, she meant business.

I smiled at that. "I won't, I promise."

"I've got three brothers who will gang up on you and fight you," she told me. I nodded my head, writing a mental note, I'd be sure to tell John if he kept being an arse to her. "She also has two brothers, who will also beat you."

"Dully noted," I nodded my head. "What do you think about John?"

She frowned. "What do you mean?"

"I mean if this works out, do you want to do this again?" I asked. I knew it would, I could feel it. I felt so good, better than I had the last few months. Ever since the split with Pattie, it was hard to smile. But Sky, she melted all of that way.

Like a bright diamond sky. (Pun intended.)

"Oh, you mean double dates?" She asked.

"I do."

She peeled off some of her nail polish off, switching from foot to foot. "He's kind of an asshole," she watched my expression. I smiled at her, waiting for her to go on. "And to be honest, you aren't really supposed to meet your idols. They usually turn out to be nothing like you imagined them."

That caught me slightly off guard, but I agreed, really. It was hard meeting people you look up to and seeing they weren't all that great after all.

"Probably. But, to be honest, you aren't really giving him a chance," I pointed out. She shrugged a single shoulder.

"Why are you doing this?" She asked me. I could see the questions popping in her mind. This couldn't just be about the double dates, could it? It was about John too. If he got along with her, then great, he could heal too.

The absence of pain, I wanted that for him too.

"You might have heard he recently split with Cyn," I told Kim. She put her hair up in a pony tail, not saying anything for a moment. We both watched him in the distance, following the right steps to a song.

"Yeah, I did," she said. She let out a low exhale. "Alright, sure."

We went home shortly after we eat our fries. We walked out of the arcade, Skyler Mae beside me. My hand slipped in hers as we walked back to the car. The sun was beginning to go down, the sky displaying its night stars.

This night couldn't get any more beautiful. I turned towards her, a smile on my lips.

This is what happiness felt like.
