xii. my kid nicky
Turning the wheel made Celine see the street she had lived in as a child and had moved back in to. Her eyes not flitting around with a nervous feeling inside of her body. She kept them on the dark street ahead which was darkened thanks to the, a street that was faintly illuminated by the light in every house that she passed on her way to her own.
She exhaled once as she drove into the drive way of her house. The garage door was closed, leaving her to think that Pete's bike was on the inside and that he had made the spiders flee from his perfectly developed anti-spider techniques. He had to develop them after he had started dating her if he did not want to hear a scream coming from her when she saw one crawling up the walls or on the ground. Celine despised spiders more than anything and she would forever make Pete the one that had to dispose of them.
Celine killed the engine of her jeep, eyes on the white garage gate that looked a bit too clean as if it had been washed by someone. Her eyebrows pulled together on her forehead as she opened the door of her jeep and stepped outside of it. Her boots hitting the ground before she slammed the door after stepping out of the way to get to the trunk in which she had put groceries she had taken some time to find.
Pulling her trunk open as she used her hands to put the grocery bags into her hand but instead of full feeling them in her grip she felt a hand wrap around her own and take the straps away from her. She turned her head to see Pete smiling at her as he took another bag, leaving her to carry nothing.
"I can do it myself," Celine reassured him as she closed the trunk of her jeep with a sigh. Her eyes narrowed at the man that had taken the task she had prepared herself to do. His head turned to her, standing in front of the yellow door which he had kept open so that he could do this simple act, of carrying the groceries she had bought, for her. A small chuckle left her as she shut the trunk and sealed the jeep with her key.
"I know you can but let me." He had a big smile on his face, a smile that made that wrinkles that had been created by how often he smiled or laughed more prominent. Wrinkles she loved to see. She shook her head as she walked to be next to him, letting her fingers slowly trail over his skin with a soft expression on her face. She smiled as she nodded her head to the door, letting Pete be the first to step into the house and following him.
"Have you been waiting for me?" Celine closed the door behind them, locking it once before following Pete into the kitchen were he had set everything down onto the counter. Nick was strolling with her in between her legs, his tail wrapping around her shin as he walked with her. Celine looked down at the brown furred cat with a smile as she leaned down and picked him up. A protesting meow leaving him as he got raised into the air and got comfortably set into the arms of his mama.
"Yeah, I thought you wouldn't come back." Pete turned to smile at her his arms flexing a bit as he reached into the bag to take out the groceries she had gotten for them. Celine used her fingertips to crawl Nick's neck as he leaned into her, purring in delight at the touch of his mother. She tightened her grip a bit on the cat with a smirk as she cuddled her face into him.
"And leave Nicky with you?" Celine asked as if she would never think that Pete would think such a bad mother of her. The meowing of the cat got a bit louder as Celine loosened her grip and let Nick slip onto the counter that he had been on hours before. "Never."
"Okay Miss Darling, I see who is more important." Pete smiled at her, pressing his lips against Celine's cheek as he moved to the fridge he had connected to the electricity in the room. Celine reached into the bag herself and got everything out of the bag and putting it on a more sanitary part of the counter so that she could put the bags away instead of leaving them for a longer time. They worked well together as they put the groceries everywhere after talking about where they want the things to go so that neither of them would be confused about certain placements when they needed to find them.
"My kid is always my priority." Celine turned her head with a smile on her lips as she stared at him putting away more of their groceries, the shaking of his head made her snap her eyes closed for a few seconds. She bumped her hip into his, arms hitting each other as she leaned against his warmed body but keeping her hazel eyes on him.
"Stop staring."
"I am not staring." Celine said back, pushing his face away from her because he had leaned into her while she had been staring, of cause she had been staring at the man she loved doing something as casual as putting away groceries. Pete raised his eyebrows slightly as he took the eggs she had in her hands to take away from them, a smirk playing on his lips before he leaned to be near her ear with his mouth.
"I like it when you stare at me," Pete whispered to her before pressing a kiss against her temple. A soft smile on her lips as her cheeks grew warm with a faint rose tone, her eyes following him as she took a package of noodles she had bought for the dinner tonight.
"I like you enough to leave Nicky with you," Celine said as she held a few apples she had gotten to him. He took them from her hands, brushing his fingertips over the palm of her hand.
"I am very grateful for that." Celine leaned down while opening a cupboard so that she could take out one of the pots she knew were left there. She cleaned it with water and a bit of soap that she would not have to worry about the rest of, Pete wrapped his arms slowly around her waist with a soft smile on his own face. She touched his arm with her wet hand, stroking his arm softly as she slowly turned to get the kitchen towel she wanted to use to dry the pot she had just gotten out of the old cupboard. Pete leaned towards her, pressing his lips against her cheek to give her as much affection as he would be able to. "I am not a cat, you ain't getting rid of me."
"I know that." Celine smiled at him as she turned her head to look at him, she kissed his lips once which made a smile spread over his lips. A chuckle left her lips as she looked deeply into his eyes awaiting for him to back up so that she could start their dinner. "And I appreciate it."
"So what is my personal chef making for dinner?" Pete moved away from her, his touch lingering as he did not really want to leave her without his presence. He loved being the one to keep her warm especially when she had been shivering since she had stepped into the house that had been fully cooled and freshened out with new air flowing all around the house.
"Noodles, easy. You get some pesto I bought and put away and I will put cheese on them." Celine was smiling as she explained the simple dinner she had planned for the two of us as a way to celebrate her promotion, which she still had to tell him about, and the simplicity that they could live in while both of them were stationed at Top Gun. She had always wanted such quite nights between the two but knew their days would always be to stressful to have such a nice end of the day but today was different.
"I love the sound of that." He grinned while leaning on the counter next to her, a wink being thrown towards her as she put the pot with water on the stove to her left without a care about him.
"I have news."
"You are not pregnant, right?" Pete asked, jumping from his leaning position. His sea green eyes were as wide as the curious eyes of a dog or a baby when it had no clue about the world around it. Putting his hands on either of her arms and turning her to look at him with her own wide eyes, she let her eyes flicker over his face that was struck with a lot of panic, hope and somehow also disbelief. "I am not saying it would be bad but I am 55 and I don't really think a kid would fit in that life especially with us both being fight—"
"I am not pregnant with your kid Pete." Celine chuckled lightly as she her eyes stay on the worried and shocked face of the man she loved. She put her hands on the sides of his face, thumbs stoking his cheeks as she stared into his eyes with reassurance. "No kid, I promise just news."
"Okay," he breathy exhaled to her, his voice being very faint. His pupils flickering between her eyes as he tried to find any lie in them but he was only able to see the known stars in the hazel abyss. His smile grew easier as he sighed, his head bowing and landing on her shoulder as she wrapped her arms around his, a soft smile on her lips as she put her chin on his shoulder. His shoulders falling with every stroke of her hand calming him even more.
"I did not mean to give you a heart attack. I did not think an Old Man like you would be coming to that conclusion." Celine chuckled lightly as she slowly let her body lean away from his. His eyes staying on her, as did his hands that stayed on her hip after dragging from her back. His eyes glancing at the pot of water that slowly started to heat up and let the bubbles that were created start at the bottom and float up.
"Any man comes to that conclusion," Pete replied as if the words he had said had no meaning except that it was the usual thoughts of any man when he heard that his girlfriend had some news, even when supposed girlfriend was a fighter pilot and would not leave the skies for a child when they did not plan it.
He had no interest in having children at his age but sometimes his dreams would betray him and let him see another universe in which he had Celine and a little them in a house like this. Laughter and babbling floating through the air before he would walk into their bedroom and see Celine having a small child in her arms with a smile on her lips as she pressed her lips against the chubby cheeks of their kid.
"I just got a promotion," Celine said as she turned to the boiling pot, taking the pack of noddles and letting as many as she thought they needed fall into the put with a care so that the water would not spill all over the pot. She turned to look at him over her shoulders. "You are looking at a Lieutenant Commander which had also been pulled back into active duty, probably only for whatever the hell is making them call both of us back to Top Gun."
"I am the instructor." Celine quickly turned her head and body to look at Pete with a smirk growing on her lips. She leaned back to lean against the counter that Nick had been on before he had rushed from the room, probably enjoying the quite in the house and adventuring through it.
"Am I gonna see you finally teach after you teasing it to me since 5 years?" Celine's smirk turned into a smile which showed her teeth as any normal smile of a really happy person would. A giggle also left her throat as she put her hands on the counter and pushed up onto it so she would be sitting on it. Her legs dangling as she kept her eyes on the man standing before her. He sighed as he watched her but her lip once. "What are you gonna teach me, Sir?"
"Stop that." Pete pointed at her with his index finger as if he was scolding a child or a student. Celine put her hand against her mouth to stop the giggle threatening to leave her throat as she stared at him. He could clearly see the smile on her lips as he took steps towards her, putting his hands on her thighs and slowly moving up and rubbing them to keep keep them warm.
"So you are dating your student?" Celine asked as she let her hand slip from her mouth, slowly moving both of them to be on his shoulder while he scooted between her legs, a smile playing on his own lips as he stared at her.
"I really hate you," he whispered to her. Celine shook her head at him as she leaned forward, letting their lips brush against each other but pulling away before Pete was able to press his lips against her own.
"No you don't." She pressed her hands against his chest, pushing him away with her lips quirked up as she got a fork out of a drawer to look if the noodles were ready for them to eat. She ignored Pete as he stood behind her, staring at her head with so many thought until Celine turned to look back at him while taking the pot off the oven.
"Actually, do you want to also tell me what is going on with that Lady that tried to talk to me about buying the house?" Celine snapped her head to look at Pete, her hazel eyes narrowed as the pot clattered into the sink after she had finished pouring the noodles.
"What?!" Celine asked in anger as she looked at the man, she did not even realize that a bit of hot water had gone over her hand and turned the skin into a battlefield of red. "I told her to stop, she did not even believe it is mine. I am gonna find her husband and then I am gonna kick her ass."
"Please don't."
"If she comes near my house again and tries to talk to you about it just walk away. She can't handle a no."
