synopsis.

❝ On March 3, 1969 the United States Navy established an elite school for the top one percent of its pilots. Its purpose was to teach the last art of aerial combat and to ensure that the handful of men and women who graduated were the best fighter pilots in the world.

They succeeded.

Today, the Navy calls it Fighter Weapons School.

❝ Celine Darling, call sign: Comet. What I learned about Celine over the five years that I have known her is a lot. She was top of her class when she graduated in the year 2001 from Top Gun, one of the youngest fighter pilots that had ever existed in history and yet someone that had never gotten the credit she had deserved. Celine is a brilliant pilot, flying as if the plane was just herself and no one could wreck her body in her own territory. extended synopsis.

━━━✦ CELINE DARLING was an enigma.

At least that is what everyone would tell you if you spoke to them about the woman that had made a name for herself. A woman that had started her career right after she had graduated the Naval Academy with a good reference and was immediately deported for her first mission on active duty. She lived through those mission until she had been invited to Top Gun at the mere age of 23, a year and a half after graduating from the Academy. She had gladly accepted the invitation and made her way back to Miramar in San Diego, California to live with her uncle while attending Top Gun.

After the years of her having graduated top of her class in the thirteen week program of Top Gun she had gotten a few more deployments that the Navy wanted her at only to be called back for another mission in the cold start of 2009. A mission that was unknown to everyone would need a group of capable pilots. What those few chosen did not know that their lives would change after doing exactly what they were supposed to do.

Her leg was broken and her head hurt, that was at least what the short form of 'your body is fucked up since the mission' was in her ears. They did not know if she would ever be able to walk properly again and took her off duty. She was no fighter pilot anymore and yet she had argued against every authority that was left to her, her captain had died on the mission and so had the rest of her team. Lone survivor, that is what they called her and yet she did not feel like she had deserved that title. She had not survived.

━━━✦ PETE MITCHELL was no babysitter.

And yet he had been put into the situation of one. The first time he had met Celine he questioned what the woman did to leave duty and why she was smoking a cigarette when she should not be doing that as a pilot. That might have made them not end up on the same side, she was forced to stay under his watchful eye while she healed and he was forced to be something he did not want to be.

Over the first year of them being forced to stay together they had grown into an easy going relationship. They worked well together when they had to and the teasing between them grew over time (more from Celine's side) because they had nothing else to do. Hondo had tried to be nice to both of them and get them to be nice to each other but had failed over the years, he just had to leave them alone for a certain time and they had started to be different. Smiled on their lips when they spoke to each other and hidden glances had started at some point — glances that he had only notices a few years after they started.

Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell never thought that he would find his soulmate after his first had died at Top Gun and yet he often thought that Goose brought Celine 'Comet' Darling to him to tell him that it was okay to grieve and be sad but that he also had to continue to live. Years passing as they grew to be with each other. Where one goes, the other follows.

✈ i made Top Gun: Maverick take place in 2014 because i was very confused on the timeline that happened and nothing really told me what year it was based in except it was the late 2010s and early 20s, i gave up. So instead of 30+ years having passed we have 28 years even thought i totally could have done 30 years, that is how i calculated everything but the plot is not really affected by that, i just needed to make my math for everything work.

✈ i will be updating this book once a month (near the end) so that everyone has something to look forward to. those updated will be only changed if i have more written and am not stressed about having to deliver but those are not the only good news, you guys will have around 30k words around this year because that is how long the first 12 chapters are together, i hop you will enjoy these two as much as i do!
