Chapter Seven: The Mystery
The second school was done I decided to head over to Ouma's house. I never understood the days where he randomly ditched school, sometimes he would even be there for half a class before leaving without any warning and I could never understand it.
Well guess there's the difference, the times where he just seemed bored and the times where...I don't even know. I can only hope he's ok.
I approached his house...huh when was the last time I've even been here? It's always outside of our houses huh? I knocked on the door. A few minutes later Ouma opened it confused.
"Saihara chan?" He asked, "hey Ouma, what happened to you at school today? You just randomly left without any warning" I asked and Ouma kept turning around. I then noticed how he was shaking as he left through his house and closed the door locking it.
"Let's talk somewhere else" he suggested, I didn't argue. I remember how his house looked back then...and I'm not thrilled on seeing it again.
We walked further down the street not saying a word till we reached a park. It was pretty empty, minus some little kids playing on the other side of the park. Ouma just watched them.
"Why do you keep ditching school?" I asked seriously, "I got bored" Ouma lied, he wouldn't stop looking at those kids. I sighed "that's a lie" I told him, "So my beloved is learning after all" he said proudly.
"Ouma can you please tell me" I pleaded, "seriously, why do you keep skipping school? Is it a home issue? I'll help you Ouma, you always help me so why won't you let me do the same for you!" I begged.
"It's not my parents" Ouma told me taking out a piece of candy from his pocket, "then what Ouma? What's going on in your life?" I asked. Ouma shrugged.
"School, the people in class, it's getting boring" Ouma lamented, "that's all, I'm waiting for something interesting to happen" he lied. He always lies.
"Why?" I asked, "Why do you always lie?" I asked. Ouma finally broke eye contact with the kids and looked at me, his expression was blank and impossible to read.
"That's your job isn't it?" He asked getting up as he unwrapped the candy, "do you want one?" He asked and I looked at him as if he was kidding me. He didn't respond.
Ouma began skipping around by the pond when one of the kids accidentally threw a ball at him and he fell in, "Ouma!" I screamed and quickly ran over passing by the kid repeadtly apologizing as Ouma laughed.
"Well that broke the mood" he commented and I looked at him and began helping him to pull out "Ouma now is not the time to-" I started but my eyes widened.
Ouma who was not wearing the school uniforms vest and now being drenched in water revealed something to me that I would never be able to unsee.
Ouma must have realized this as well as he glanced down at what I was staring at and took one look at me...the fear in his eyes were real...real emotion.
Ouma immediately ran, and he kept running he didn't even bother trying to laugh off what had just happened and what I know knew. Nothing could've hid it now though, no lies can cover up what Ouma had been hiding...who knows for how long?
God why was I such an idiot not to notice? When did this even happen? How? How did I not know? Ouma is my best friend. He should've told me this...and yet...deep down...I always suspected something didn't I?
That there was something about Ouma lying beneath the surface, that was what drew me to him and led us to becoming friends in the first place. Some weird sick curiosity, eventually led me to falling in love with him.
Yet...even though I knew something was going on...I didn't reach far enough to him did I? He didn't trust me enough to tell me.
He never even told me how and why his whole body was covered in scars.
And based on how far he's already gone in the distance...I don't think I'm finding out anytime soon.
