Skinwalker Facts

Skinwalkers are witches in Navajo culture.

Skinwalkers will steal the skin of what/who they want to shapeshift into.

Don't look into a skinwalker in the eyes, that's how they absorb themselves into your body and control your every move.

The Navajo tribe won't talk about skinwalkers to any outsiders because they don't want any supernatural repercussions. (That just means they won't talk about them for fear that something bad will happen if they do)

Skinwalkers can shapeshift into humans, but they are mostly seen as wolves, coyotes, foxes, eagles, owls, or crows.

There is a ranch in Utah called Skinwalker Ranch because of the number of sightings.

The word "Skinwalker" in Navajo is yee naaglooshii. It translates to "he who walks on all fours."

Skinwalkers can run greater distances than normal humans. They are said to be able to run for two hundred miles at a time.

Skinwalkers like to hang out around graveyards, where they can dig up graves quickly and get to the skin of the dead.

They also can use the powder from the corpses to poison their victims.

When skinwalkers aren't in the form of animals or other humans, witnesses have described them as "hollowed out" creatures that look like dogs.

Skinwalkers aren't allowed into homes unless they are invited in.

You can become a skinwalker by performing a ritual through a gathering with specific charms and chants.

One of the ritual acts to become a skinwalker involves killing and eating someone close to them.

After the ritual, you will lose any humanity you have left.

You can kill a skinwalker by calling them by their true, pre-skinwalker name. (Their original name before they became a skinwalker)

Skinwalkers are most commonly encountered near native reservations, though they have been seen all over the United States ( in Utah is the most famous. Some people believe the "Rake" which is commonly encountered in the northeast is similar to a skinwalker.)

They can be found in New Mexico, Utah, Montana, and more.
