Walking past, Ash saw a young man with his head in his hands. She walked over and soon realised he was completely sobbing.

"Hey..." she said softly, "are you okay?" Seeing the young man's bloodshot eyes and puffy face answered her question almost immediately, "she promised forever didn't she?"

"Yeah, he did," Phil said, now feeling anger boil up inside him, "until he cheated,"

"Oh, he," Ash whispered to herself, "were you together long?"

"Almost two years. I didn't see anything like this coming, you know? We were perfect together,"

"You were perfect? Well, I guess a fire that bright isn't meant to last,"

"I guess not." Phil smiled meekly.

Ash looked at him. This man was the most beautiful person she'd ever seen. His ex must've been so blind to throw him to the curb so he could cheat.

"You'll move on," she nodded as she watched people walking past, escaping the fast approaching darkness, "that's what people do,"

Phil didn't think he could.

Out of all of his best places to stay, Dan's arms were his favourite. Out of the best things to get lost in it was Dan's eyes. Out of things to drown in, it was always Dan's smile. He might've  picked Dan over anything. And that terrified him.
