Chapter 5

(y/n)'s P.O.V.

I woke up to faint sunlight shining into the hut. "Oh crap it wasn't a dream," I grumble. Suddenly, (d/n) broke through the door before pouncing in front of me protectively. A wave of vikings flowed through the door after her as she bared her teeth and growled. Hiccup was at the front of the crowd, signalling them to keep back.

"No sudden movements," he orders calmly. Her eyes were slits of black and her protective mark was glaring at my eyes like the sun. I scratch the base of her wing before she calmed the slightest bit.

"Now no sudden movements," I say.

"What do you mean? Was that a signal to put her in attack mode?" a blond viking asked from Hiccup's side.

"No. But she's calm and will attack if you move too quickly," I tell her. (d/n) slowly wrapped her tail around me and laid at the bedside.

"Does anyone know how she got out?" Hiccup asks before I see her Blast mark flashing.

"You got your fire back, didn't you?" I ask her in a baby voice as I scratched the back of her neck.

"She what?" a black haired guy asks.

"She goot her fi-ya bock," I said in a strange accent, trying to freak them out, "She con blew a shea stock at 60,000 mi-oles. *Losing accent* So, you might not want us to stay here for much longer." I wrapped my arms around her neck and just as Hiccup was about to say something, she shot out the door and into the air. She started by flying strongly to the clouds before she lost altitude with a cry of dismay. "(d/n)!" I shout as I fall from her back. I land in a tree and bounce off a few branches before wrapping my arms around one as I land on top of it.

I heard (d/n) roar in pain in the distance as I crouched on the branch. I scanned the tree tops as she called again, trying to pin-point where it was coming from. It was echoing too much. Suddenly, my shoulders were trapped in a pair of claws and I was ripped from the tree, carried higher into the sky. I look up to see Hiccup on a Nightfury. I swing my body backwards and throw my legs forward, pressing the soles of my feet against the dragons chest. I then use as much force as I could muster to push myself from the dragons claws and send myself diving for a pine tree. The needles poked and stabbed my skin as I landed and climbed down the tree a few feet. A screech sounded through the air and I looked over my shoulder to see Hiccup and his dragon looping around, back toward me.

I paused in thought, looking all around for a way out. Ah, screw it. I threw myself away from the trunk of the tree and fell until I reached the thicker, wider part that was closer to the base, but still near the middle. I grabbed a branch and it bent under my weight before I let go, the momentum from my fall hurtling me through the needles and mini-branches to the thick, firm trunk that made the pine's center. The bark and pines caught on my (h/l) hair, and I swear that when I pulled myself free, there was blood or something. I sat on the thick branch and leaned my back against the trunk as Hiccup drew closer. His Nightfury pulled up as he reached my level of the tree, and hovered, the wind from his wings making my shelter sway slightly.

"Alright, (y/n), enough with the games," Hiccup called, "Come on out, and we'll help you find (d/n)." When I didn't respond, I heard a click before he stood on his dragons back. "Then I'm coming in after you," he said before jumping to the branches of the pine tree. I sat back calmly as he unsteadily climbed along the branch toward me.

"How stupid are you idiot?" I ask, "I can easily climb down."

"No, you can't," he says as he finds his balance.

"Says who?" I ask.

"Your leg," he answers and I remember him telling me it was broken, before pain leaked through my veins. I bundled my good leg underneath me and went into a crouch as my lame leg hung by the branch.

"Quick question before you take me captive again-" he cut in.

"Not--what, happened," he says choppily.

"How many broken legs do you think I've had in my life? Do you really think I don't know how to travel with one?" I don't let him answer before turning toward the forest, pulling my bad leg up and using my good one to push off the branch, through the pines and mini-branches once again.

I land in the pine  tree next to the one I left Hiccup in and grab a branch in a firm fist before steadying myself on my unbroken leg. I looked back to see the Nightfury staring at me in shock as Hiccup tried to get his attention. I let go of the branch and let myself fall down the rest of the height of the tree before the base branches cradle me softly as I land on the ground, slowing my speed and placing me gently on the forest floor.

I watched Hiccup struggle to weave through the branches, back to his dragon, as I stumbled under the tree and sat at it's base, leaning my back against the trunk as the first branches made a protective dome around me. Realizing that Hiccup was not about to get out of the tree any time soon, I pulled up my pant leg to inspect my leg. The skin had swollen and turned different shades of purple and black. I fight through the agony to gently feel for the break. When I find it, my heart sinks with disappointment. It was a re-fracture; what I call a break that was there before, or re-broken.

"Oh, boy this is gonna hurt like Loki," I mutter before shifting the bone back together and holding it there as I let out a cry of pain.

A throbbing sensation slowly emanated from my abdomen as my agony mark started glowing. I remember getting that mark. It looked like a blood covered dagger, and it was by far the most painful mark to appear. I got it when (d/n) and I left home, swearing never to return until we've done something that can clear our names. I quickly grab a long stick, that was near me, and broke it into four pieces. I put the pieces around my leg, in formation, before ripping two strips of cloth from my cloak. I use one strip to tie the sticks firmly around my ankle, before using the other strip to tie the sticks around my leg, just below my knee. Tears had slipped into my eyes as the pain almost became unbearable. I let out a sigh of exhaustion as I leaned back against the trunk of the tree. Suddenly, Hiccup broke into the dome and froze as he saw me.

"Took you long enough," I huff, looking around casually.
