Chapter 1
4 years later
(y/n)'s P.O.V.
I screamed in happiness as (d/n) spiraled into the sky. The rain splattered my face and the lightning made us a simple silhouette. The clouds swirled around us as we broke to open sky, the moon of nightly glow shining above our heads. She soared over the storm clouds as I stood on her back. Then, I wait for the most recent thunder clap before jumping over her head and diving into the rain again. I fall through the clouds and feel the rain hit against my body as I had my back face the ocean. (d/n) falls the same way as me, at my side before we twist our bodies and I get on her back as she pulls up, making waves in the ocean with her wings.
(d/n)'s P.O.V.
We were moving as one before she got back on my back. "Should we go home yet?" I asked as I flew higher into the clouds.
"I don't care. I'd like a few more minutes," she says. I soared through the rain before I felt a fire spread through my wing as lightning hits it. I screech in pain as I fell to the ocean. (y/n) fell off my back and I instantly knew she got some of the shock and was unconscious. I hit the water and resurfaced before catching my breath. I saw (y/n) hanging on a log before slipping off and into the depths of the ocean.
"(y/n)!" I roared before diving after her.
I grabbed her shirt in my jaws before pulling her to the surface. I try desperately to keep her head above water until I find a piece of drift wood and flip her onto it so that her upper body hooked around it and kept her safe. I then noticed that her sword had slipped from her back. I dived again before finding it and grabbing it in my teeth. I went back to precious air and clung to the drift wood as I caught my breath. I heard (y/n) groan over the roaring of the ocean.
"Come on, come on, stay with me," I growled before seeing an island in the distance.
I started swimming toward it, pushing the wood in front of me. After a few hours, the storm has passed, the clouds were blocking the sun, and I was dragging (y/n) to the shore. I layed her as gently as I could on the sand and dropped her sword before collapsing next to her, my injured wing numb. My muscles were slowly and painfully tearing away from each other and my veins were burning with blood as fever settled into my system. If I already had something, I had to keep (y/n) warm. In a minute. I couldn't keep my eyes from closing and letting me slip into a heavy, pained, addicting sleep.

I woke to the same weather conditions, (y/n) still knocked out at my side...but her sword was gone. I gazed at its spot in shock. There was its imprint, but no weapon. I heard rustling from the top of the cliff, that was in front of us, and ignored the pain in my neck to look up. At the top of the cliff stood a Nightfury that looked strangely familiar. Same regal pose, scales as black as night, and electric green eyes. He had the same look of purpose on his face as he gazed at me. His head was high and his chest was puffed out to make him seem even taller.
"Waveclaw?" I breathed in confusion. He was supposed to be dead. But here he was, standing on top of a cliff, with a young human on his back. I couldn't hold my head up anymore and let it fall back to the sand. As I breathe heavily, trying to calm my racing heart, the dragon and his rider glide to the beach and land in front of my rider and I. That's when I noticed that the dragon had some sort of red thing on his tail.
"Get away from us," I growled, wrapping my tail around (y/n) protectively as I felt the authority radiating from his scales.
"Calm down, Nightfury. We're here to help you," the dragon says.
"We don't need help!" I snap, draping my wing over my rider.
"Something tells me you do," he replies smugly.
"Ugh, please," I grunt, moving so I'm guarding (y/n) with my body, "All we need is a simple muscle stretch." His rider dismounted him before the Nightfury bent his head to look me in the eye.
"She's knocked out. She can't do a simple 'muscle stretch'," he growls.
I snarl before lunging for his throat, my muscles screaming in protest as he rolled on his back to avoid my snapping jaws. His rider jumped to the side as we wrestle across the beach. I try to rake my claws through his flesh but he pinned me to the sand before I could unsheathe them. I swallowed back a shriek of agony as my muscles get squished by an avalanche of his weight. I shove him away and shoot back to (y/n) as I see the dragon's rider walking toward her. I snarl and hiss at him as he stares at me, his hands extended as a signal to calm down. I'm about to fire at him, but the Nightfury tackles me back to the side. We summer salt a few tail lengths away before he jumps off me. I look at him to see him with scratches I didn't even know I gave him. I lunge for him and we wrestle again before I'm able to pin him.
"Stormfly! Cloudjumper! Little help please?" he called and a Nadder and Stormcutter soared down from the cliff before landing on either side of him. I get off and bound a few paces away before sitting on the sand, looking at them calmly.
"I know when I'm outnumbered," I growl when they look at me in confusion.
"Well, my job is done," the Nightfury says and I look behind me to see (y/n) had disappeared. "Almost, anyway," he adds before I felt a tooth jab into my neck, sending everything to fade to black.
