"carson's girl's here"
"What?" I asked, turning my head to look at Carson self consciously as I felt his petrifying gaze on me.
He shook his head dismissively. "Nothing. It's just your shoes."
I wore similar jeans to what I did yesterday, only they were much tighter and suffocated my legs. It was uncomfortable but I couldn't find my other ones. An eminently similar jumper covered my arms and torso, the only difference was that it was an Adidas branded jumper.
I usually never wore those because they were expensive but I got it for twenty dollars, which was half price. It's been camping in my closet for the past year but for some odd reason, all my clothes had disappeared. The only effort I had put in today was wearing one inch heeled boots; not because I actually wanted to look nice but because mother had seen my murky brown shoes and decided to wash them. The boots weren't that bad in general; they were laced up (making it more likely for me to trip over) and were black.
I don't really know if you could even wash shoes like that without damaging it or something but she did it anyway. Those were my comfiest shoes and they're hanging off the clotheslines by two untrusty clips which could fall of at any second.
If I had another minute, I definitely would have grabbed my running shoes because they were the next option but the stupid white shoes were packed in some box stacked away in the garage and were left so no man could ever find it again.
My alarm didn't ring this morning due to my clumsiness the night before; I had tripped over the wire that powered the clock so it had been unplugged the whole night and I didn't even know.
So I grabbed the first thing I could see and pulled them on hastily. I already regretted taking those heels because as I took the first step, I felt the bewildering excitement of being an inch taller. Not to mention I had to actually run this morning because I was late. I was a leaf in a thunderstorm or maybe even a baby taking its first steps because I hadn't dared touch any form heels in years.
Carson had begun to realise how flustered and embarrassed I was so he added. "It's a good thing though. It's nice to see a change once in a while."
I just nodded although I didn't particularly agree with him. He probably thinks I changed because I was meeting his friends. I couldn't care less but life seemed to despise me and made all my clothes magically cease to exist.
Wearing them in school was bad enough because many people towered over me and pushed me around on a daily basis. Add in heels and I'd tumble within three seconds of being in the hallways and the pathway to the bench was made of gravel and miniature rocks, making the surface feel like ice.
"Just to warn you, Jett's a strangely open guy. He'll say anything he thinks so don't be offended but May is nice, nothing too out of the ordinary for her," Carson warned not too seriously and I nodded, keeping my concentration on my feet and the ground in front of me. We were almost there, perhaps halfway and I could already feel my feet giving out.
"You're probably wondering how they ended up together, huh?" he asked and that hooked my attention. I looked up at Carson and blushed a golden pink not even after 0.5 seconds.
That was a big mistake.
I felt my left foot against a rock; a much larger one this time. Time seemed to slow down evidently and everything was blurry. I know the pain would come once I hit the ground but it never came.
Instead, I found strong arms wrapped around my arms and small torso. I knew then and there who it was but I didn't want to admit it. How humiliating is it to trip over and be caught by the most popular boy? I can tell you now on a scale of one to ten that it was probably a nine point nine recurring, unless I could go over ten, then I would choose a million.
My body tingled as his hand rubbed my arm gently as he pulled me back up. Even then I wasn't ready, because of my weightless figure and his impossible strength, he hauled me up too fast and I ended up smacking right into his chest.
I felt the redness seep up to my ears and all the way down to my collarbones. Carson obviously didn't find any of this awkward situation troublesome because I could feel his chest rumbling with laughter.
I took a step back shamelessly and bit my lip, using my nails to prick the insides of my palm.
"Are you okay, Hermosa?"
I nodded and gave him a small smile, warmth spreading through my body at the nickname.
"Jett and May should be waiting there now," Carson acknowledged and I nodded, too flustered to use my voice.
We walked in silence and thankfully it wasn't awkward. Learning from my previous lesson, I kept my eyes on the ground and watched out for any tiny rocks who want to make my life miserable.
Less than a minute later, we reached the bench only to find it very occupied. We were behind a large bush so I doubt the couple could see us, but either way, they were too busy in a heated make out session to notice anyone. I didn't know who they were but surely Jett and May must've seen this and walked elsewhere to wait for us.
"L-Let's go wait for them somewhere else," I suggested.
Carson chuckled and pointed at the 'busy' couple. "That's them."
I stared at him shell-shocked with my eyebrows deepening. "J-Jett and May?"
He nodded. "Wait here."
Carson didn't let me answer as he snuck off. I kept my eyes trained on him the whole time. He moved slowly and silently, dashing behind bushes to keep himself hidden then he disappeared and I couldn't see him anymore.
It wasn't until I saw a ruffle of brown hair behind the bench that I knew what he was trying to achieve. A slightly amused smile crawled on to my face and I waited.
Faster than a flash of lightning, Carson sprung out of his hiding spot and pushed the couple lightly, shouting very loudly, I might add; "Get a room!"
Jett and May jumped apart abruptly.
Jett somehow managed to fall off the bench and land on his back.
Jett seemed very frustrated as he pulled his fingers through his thick blonde hair, while May had an expression of humiliation on her face.
"Dude, we were busy!" Jett exclaimed, bouncing off his seat and punching Carson in the shoulder while Carson just laughed effortlessly.
I'd never approached Jett before but now I could and he looked like the complete opposite of Carson, aside from the height; they were both towering buildings.
Soft blonde hairs fell down to just above his brow and covered his pale skin. Below his light eyebrows were blue sapphire eyes with little specks of white and green sprinkled all over. His nose was tall and pointy and his plump lips were red and swollen; likely from too much kissing. Jett's towering figure was supported by dark vans, black jeans which were ripped at the knees and a simple white t-shirt with the word 'COOL' on the front and back.
A smirk was glued to his face and I doubt anyone would be able to wash it off even with a bucket of dishwasher detergent which showed his narcissistic personality.
May, however, was quite the opposite in both looks and character. Warm brown tresses fell a few centimetres above her waist. You could still see her turquoise green eyes through her hair, despite her thin bangs almost covering her whole eyes. Her most prominent feature besides her thick arched brows was her thin lips. They were coated in a thick layer of matte maroon colour and was smudged due to the earlier kissing fiasco.
May's sense of fashion was similar to mine, except she wore branded clothing. She never wore skirts or dresses but was comfortable in six-inch heels, at least that was what I could assume from the very few times I'd seen her in the hallways. She wore spotless white Adidas sneakers, a plain white cropped jumper and black ripped jeans. Now that I actually think about it, Jett and May were wearing matching clothes.
Unlike her boyfriend, I could tell that she was feeling discomfort and embarrassed because of the way her lips were creased in a frown and her cheeks blossoming a bright colour.
I stood there awkwardly, shifting all my weight on to one foot and switching it every now and then. Jett kept sending punch assaults to Carson's poor shoulder but Carson could barely register this and continued his laughing fit. May merely sat there with her arms on her chest.
It wasn't until May's bored eyes began wandering around from place to place that I started to panic, knowing that they would eventually land on me. I was right and they did.
Her eyes widened and so did mine. I changed my direction immediately so I wasn't sure whether she was still looking.
I heard a loud sound before looking up to see May standing on the bench. She turned around to face the two boys. Before she did anything though, she raised her delicate fingers to her fringe and moved them out of her eyes. "Boys."
"Boys," she tried again but no avail, the two kept bickering and Carson's loud laughter drowned out her small voice.
"Boys!" May tried louder and all she received was ignorance. I could easily interpret that she was clearly getting frustrated by the way she clenched her tiny fists.
May sucked in a large breath. "BOYS!"
She was so loud that it made me flinch from ten metres away. She didn't only do that but she hit them so hard that they stopped straight away, Jett stopped through a mid punch and Carson with his mouth partly open.
Jett rubbed his right arm and Carson rubbed the back of his head.
May, finally, glad to have caught their attention turned around with her index finger pointed at me. "Carson's girl's here."
