Chapter 6
Undyne was annoying. Extremely annoying.
Gaster let his tea on his lap brew, feeling the warmth slip into the morning air. Gentle now, he thought as he cradled the cup. He couldn't go breaking his cup with these annoying guests over.
Toriel was... a person that existed. He wasn't fond of her, but it was Jandle who found herself sneering with annoyance at her. Toriel was alright for now, but he wouldn't go making friends with her.
Undyne, on the other hand, he found he couldn't stand. The world was corrupt because of people like her. A person as unstable as herself should not be in a position of power. If she lost control, much as she did in her home with Frisk that destroyed the kitchen, she could get people hurt.
Sure, both her and Papyrus were loud people, but that's where the similarities ended. It was ever so obvious Papyrus cared deeply for the people around him, and his loud voice carried the eloquence his parents did. Undyne did not. She was loud and demanding, slamming her hands and fists around without any restraint. Jandle was passionate like her, and so was Papyrus, but they didn't act like her.
Disgusting. He hated people like her. She had a loose temper, no self control for her strength. What that meant was she was a fuse, ready to explode and lash out, to hit someone. Jandle could easily match that anger, but she knew how to properly let it stew, and how to direct it for her advantage. Undyne was willing to let her emotions take ahold and destroy anything and everything, including her friends. Including his sons.
She had to go first. As fast as possible.
Frankly, if he had a choice, he'd send all of their friends away. They were a part of the society his family hated, but that would take time. Gaster and Jandle had to ease their ways into their sons lives. For Papyrus, it was easy. He was as true and honest as his Mother, open and wanting of love. And they gave that love to him. Sans...
Poor Starlight. He cupped his own plate of crepes, visibly tense from watching his two parents. The boy used to love ketchup when he was a child, Gaster wasn't surprised it continued with the years. It was a cute quirk. He could remember Jandle cradling the bottle of ketchup they had left for Sans in the fridge, her on the floor after he had ran away. They always kept one, just in case.
The moment they found their children, their focuses changed. From ensuring their precious boys were alive to bonding and keeping them safe. Everyone else was fine. Alphys was timid, she wouldn't be able to hurt one of her friends on purpose. Toriel was kind, and while she acted like a Mother where she had no right to, she was keeping their best interests at heart. Undyne was different.
She was a bomb of emotions and power, ready to explode when the trigger was pulled. That was dangerous to have. Of course Asgore would employ someone like that.
Gaster didn't like any of their children's friends, but she was a danger. Any moment, if she lost her cool, she could accidentally hurt someone. No wonder society was like this, and why he and his family worked ever so hard to fix it. Because Asgore and everyone else was stupid enough to let people like her have power.
He tilted his phone back, looking at the messages from their family chat. Everyone was so ecstatic to hear that their beloved gems were alive, and were healthy. They weren't doing financially well, but Gaster anticipated that. The world was full of cruel and dangerous people, they had to protect their children from those who wanted to take advantage of then. He looked at the picture he had snuck yesterday, seeing his precious boys there. One of many pictures, he hoped he would get. Right now, the rest of their family wouldn't be able to meet the children that meant the world to them. One day, but now wasn't the time. They had to ease it back onto them.
Gaster was so proud of his little Starlight, he didn't tell anyone about this! His son was probably scared, and Gaster wanted nothing more than to scoop him up into his arms and give him nothing but love. It hurt seeing Sans like that, scared of his own parents. He tuckered himself onto the other side of the couch, as far away as he possibly could, retreating into his hoodie like a snail. He was scared, and he was scared of them. It hurt to know that he was the reason why Sans looked so uncomfortable.
But now, they had to work on Undyne and get her as far away from them. By instigating doubt about her within their sons.
Gaster could see it stewing within Papyrus, the question from earlier. Such a simple question could plant doubt within someone, causing it to fester with more thought. Undyne certainly wasn't helping her case, commenting on the food that Papyrus had generously donated her.
"It doesn't look burnt enough! You whimped out on cooking!" Undyne yelled.
Is that what he called a friend? Someone to yell at him, barge into his home and eat his food? Society was tainted, and this was evidence. His precious Sundrop, forced to accommodate her and her terrible attitude. By far she was the worst.
Gaster didn't really like any of his children's friends, but that was to expect. All of their friends were irredeemable. Only those who saw the true light could become a part of their family, and none of these people were even close to being Sans' or Papyrus' family, much less their true friends.
Friends was a fleeting word, Gaster never found any use of it. One's friends only stayed for so long as you were useful, using social standards to trick you out of your time and money. And the moment you would need help, they would only help if it benefited themself, or leave you in shambles. Much like Sans and Papyrus. If their friends were true friends, why would they leave the two in such despair, barely able to obtain jobs due to the system that only promoted wealth. Once you understood the system, you knew how to beat it, resulting in monsters less fortunate to suffer without any help.
Monsters needed love to survive, yet their system condemned those trying to survive by forcing them into lesser positions, unable to rise through the ranks. It wasn't a system made to help people, it was to help a small selection, to help the rich. Gaster despised it, much like he despised every single person who supported it.
That was why they got rid of those people, disposing of them. All of them didn't understand true family, what Gaster and Jandle had long since realized. They didn't understand how pure his Starlight and Sundrop were, and they never would.
He could already see their future. Both of his sons, home and safe, not having to ever worry about debt or bad friends. Their family would be so happy to see them home, to see them free from society.
But for now, he was going to get to know them. And Gaster liked that as well.
It was clear their children were suffering as a result of the society Gaster and Jandle hated. They were forced to share a house with a woman who was so desperate for love that she would practically claim them as her own children mentally, a fact Jandle did not appreciate in the slightest. The two were struggling to find jobs with the requirements needed, and society decided higher class monsters could ease on by while lower ones were shuffled to the bottom. There was a reason why the Kings and Queens were always Boss goat monsters, and why it never changed. And there was a reason why more wealthy monsters lived closer to the Capital while the rest were shoved aside to the other areas, ignored in their smaller towns with less support. There was a reason to why Gaster and Jandle, along with the other wealthy and higher class monsters, already had houses built for them while the others were ignored, shoved into the older houses abandoned long ago.
Their society favored status over love, despite the natural need for monsters to love. How odd was that?
Starlight eyed him nervously before flicking his gaze away when Gaster caught it like a startled kitten. His crepes were about halfway done, at least he was eating more now. Gaster was worried about Sans not eating that night, but it was good to see he wasn't skipping meals. Sans must have been caught so off guard by seeing them that he didn't eat.
"Undyne, I learned how to make it more edible!" Papyrus said, frowning at her. "So people can eat it!"
"But that's not how I taught you," Undyne said.
"No, it's how I taught him," Jandle said, "More safely, and edible."
Undyne snorted, tearing through another crepe. "It doesn't sound like fun to cook a crepe without exploding something."
"It was actually a lot of fun!" Papyrus said, "And nothing had to be destroyed!"
"It was fun!" Jandle agreed, "I enjoy spending time with my children. Papyrus and I are going to be spending Mother and son time together through cooking, it's going to be great."
"But cooking is Undyne and Paps thing," Sans finally cut through.
Gaster looked over, and once again Sans looked away. He was so nervous it was adorable, but Gaster just wished he wasn't nervous because of his parents. Sans was like that when he was younger, he was always a little shy. It pained both of his parents to see him reverted back to his shyness from utter fear.
But Gaster knew they would earn back Sans' trust, they both knew. Not to mention bond with their other son while they were at it.
"Not to mention, uh, you know... Toriel's been teaching him as well," Sans said, voice getting quieter with the attention he was receiving. "That's kinda there bonding time, it's their thing, ya know?"
"Wait." Undyne's face fell when she realized what this meant, looking over. "That is our thing."
"Yeah, it is," Sans said, "I don't think you want to go and replace your bonding time with Undyne, do you?"
"Oh, that's right!" Papyrus said, "Sorry Undyne, I just got so excited that I forgot cooking was our bonding training!"
"A-Actually," Alphys perked up, "I m-mean, it'd be cool i-if Papyrus actually d-d-did that with his Mom. He just f-found her again, and i-it'd be a fun thing f-f-for them to do. And, u-uh, you know... Toriel already t-teaches all day, so she's always tired... and Undyne and Papyrus can b-b-bond other ways..."
"That's a good idea!" Jandle said, pressing her hands together excitedly. "I wouldn't want to push Toriel when I have some free time, and Undyne could use that time to hang out with you, Alphys! Wouldn't you like that?"
Unused to getting to share her opinion, love struck Alphys quickly nodded. "Yeah, w-we could watch Mew Mew Kissy Cutie t-together!"
"Unless, of course," Jandle turned towards Undyne, "You don't want that. It's fine if you want to cook with Papyrus, I'm only trying to bond with my son, but you are his friend that knows him more than I do."
Gaster smiled against the teacup. Dear did he love his wife.
"What, no, of course not!" Undyne objected quickly, "It's totally fine! Papyrus and I can figure out something else to do, you're his Mom, you should get to know him more!"
"Aw, that's great!" Jandle said, "Bonding time!"
"Yay!" Papyrus joined in.
Sans was the only one who didn't seem happy, giving a stare at their Mother. No doubt he disliked Papyrus being alone with them, he was so caring for his brother, it was adorable to watch.
"But Undyne, how did you come to meet my sons?" Gaster asked, setting down his cup of tea. "I'm interested in understanding their friends as well."
That wasn't a lie. Really, Gaster did want to learn about their friends. Then toss them into a pit of lava for not understanding properly what his children needed, and for treating them that way.
For Jandle, Toriel was the worst offender. And why wouldn't she be? Toriel entered into their children's lives and used them to replace her own dead one's simply because she couldn't acknowledge they were gone. Pathetic, really. Jandle was livid that Toriel decided to take over her role as a Mother, and Gaster didn't blame her.
But Undyne was the biggest current threat. Toriel, while twisted, did have the best intentions for their children. With Undyne, it was debatable. And even if she did, good intentions could be lost when anger took hold.
It wasn't a question of when she would snap, it was how. And Gaster fully intended to let Papyrus see her when that trigger happened.
"We met in Waterfall, when I was training for the Royal Guard," Undyne said, "He saw me and said that he wanted to join, and that's how we became friends." She lightly punched Papyrus' shoulder. "Best friends, I've been training him for the Royal Guard ever since."
"And you're Head of the Royal Guard, correct?" Gaster clarified.
"Duh!" Undyne flexed slightly, causing her girlfriend to blush and anxiously look away.
"Oh, so you're like personally training Papyrus to become a member?" Jandle bumped in, "That's lovely! I'm guessing you did like a training regimen?"
"What?" Undyne asked, half of a crepe hanging between her sharp teeth.
Did she even bother to brush her teeth? She was the Head of the Royal Guard for heavens sake, at least show some respect to the people she was supposed to be protecting.
It was okay, Gaster and Jandle were here. They'd protect their precious gems.
"A training route to ensure once Papyrus completed it, he could join," Gaster said, "I'm sure you set one up to ensure he would join, didn't you?"
"O-Oh, yeah, duh," Undyne said, "That's why we've been training!"
Papyrus didn't look satisfied with her answer. There was no doubt the comment from earlier had taken time to stew, and now that this was being presented, Papyrus wanted some answers. But at the same time he was agreeing with her, taking into consideration how she was his friend. How sweet.
Gaster had to get his Sundrop away from her faster, then. If he was that pure, he had to be protected from people. People like her.
"How come you've been training through food? Not that I object, I adore cooking," Jandle said, pressing a hand against her chest, "But I do find that an odd way to train for the Royal Guard. I've never heard of that training style. How does it work?"
Eyes averted to the side as Undyne was caught off guard. Jandle feigned innocence, blinking her large eye sockets with nothing but pure interest on display for the group.
"Undyne... can we talk outside for a moment?" Papyrus asked.

Almost forgot to upload this, WHOOPS
Also, working on (I feel like I have enough chapters to comfortably say this now) a Sans' House Guests rewrite
And by that I mean it's like the same idea of "Sans meets the creepypasta on the surface and forms a harem" but completely different. In fact, there's new creepypasta thrown into the mix, his friends don't abandon him, he meets them all in new ways, and basically everythings different and awesome. Seriously, Sans' House Guests is nothing compared to this so far, super proud of it
And yeah here's some concept art I originally drew
Yeah Sally is making this bone wound on purpose
And yes it's Papyrus' bone attack specifically, she may or may not be trying to frame him for murder r something, guess you guys will just have to wait to read the book
