Mr. Nice Rat's Daughter
Donatello dabbed a Q-Tip of neosporin over one of the fine cuts across my face from when Karai pushed it against the concrete. Michelangelo stood behind me, holding an ice pack to the bruises on my back.
Casey leaned against the wall, showing off the splint on his leg to Raphael. Master Splinter sat behind April on Donnie's other side. Leonardo was nowhere to be found.
"Okay, hang on one sec," Donnie dropped the cotton swab in the trash and spun in his desk chair to tend to April.
"How you holdin' up, bro?" Mikey asked concernedly, readjusting the ice pack.
"I'm fine," I closed my eyes, slumping forward a bit. Karai's attacks had hurt while they were being delivered, but now they were excruciating.
"Hmm mm," Mikey nodded, unconvinced. I heard Donnie's chair swivel back around towards me.
"You have a minor concussion, but it'll go away after a few days of taking it easy." The turtle bent over and pulled another ice pack out of the mini fridge under his desk. "Hold this on there... yeah. Those scrapes and bruises will disappear soon enough. You're really lucky. Karai is a trained kunoichi -- I'm surprised she didn't beat up an untrained teenager like you harder."
"Gee, thanks."
Donnie gave me a look. "But I wonder why she attacked you in the first place?"
"I don't know, maybe because I know where four mutant karate turtles live? Maybe because I'm friends with the target of an alien invasion?" April looked up. "Just a few ideas," I finished sarcastically.
"Come on, dude, I got some pizza by the TV." Mikey pulled away the ice pack as I jumped off of Donnie's counter. "And Super Robo Mecha Force Five is queued up!" he pranced out of the lab and into the main room. I sighed, chuckling slightly, and followed him.
"Thanks, Don," I called over my shoulder.
I was almost out of the lab when I felt a hand on my shoulder.
"My son," I turned to find Master Splinter towering over me. "How are you feeling?"
"I'm okay," I involuntarily cracked my neck. "The Karai lady is... crazy." I exhaled a deep breath.
"Karai," Splinter paused in stroking his beard, "is my daughter."
My face froze in apprehension. I slowly started nodding. "Oh... okay." I glanced up at him, "sorry."
"There is no need to apologize, my son." Splinter gave me an understanding smile. "Karai does not believe her true identity. Her entire life she has been taught to hate me, because I am the one who killed her mother, Tang Shen."
"What?!" I tried to imagine Mr. Nice Rat killing this Tang Shen lady.
"The Shredder has poisoned her mind against me." Splinter glanced up at the ceiling. "Miwa is not ready to accept the truth."
"Miwa... her real name?" I guessed. Splinter nodded solemnly.
"Ren, dude, come on -- I'll start without 'ya!" Mikey called from the couch.
"Don't worry, sir," I paused at how weird that sounded. "Er... Master..? Yeah. I'm sure she'll come around." I gave him what I hoped was a reassuring smile.
"I'm serious, bro!" Mikey yelled.
I bowed to Master Splinter -- then stopped because I didn't know what I was doing exactly. He was a ninja master... but he wasn't teaching me anything... do you bow out of respect, or...?
I realized I was doing this Robot Chicken kind of bow thing, so I straightened and walked away as normally as I could. However, I could hear Splinter chuckling behind me.
