Jane smiled as Kat woke her up by enveloping her in a hug and kissing her cheek. "Morning, baby girl," Jane whispered and held her close. "Mama! Mama! Mama!" Kat clapped and then nuzzled into her. "How's my baby girl?"
"'M good, mama! But come downstairs!" Kat giggled and sat up, pulling on her hands in attempt to get Jane up.
Jane just laughed and stood up, pulling a dressing gown on before lifting her foster baby onto her hip. They went downstairs and sat down on the sofa, Jane tickling Kat.
"Mama! Stop!" She giggled. "Open your pressie!" Kat's little three year old mind was racing as Jane sat her on her lap and allowed Kat to pass her the terrible wrapped presents.
"You gonnna help me open it?" Jane giggled and offered her the present.
Kat bit her lip nervously. She was scared this was a cruel trick. Now, everyone knows that a three year old shouldn't be thinking that. But Kat was different. Jane smiled and took it back, opening it slowly. Kat touched the paper and looked up at Jane, who nodded. So she slowly teased the paper between her fingers and then opened it cautiously. Jane smiled gratefully and kissed her temple. "Thnak you," she whispered before looking inside at the canvas. "Baba," Jane's eyes were glazed with tears as she hugged her. "Princess, I would love to be your real mummy, and these are your hands and feet?" Kat nodded and hugged her. "Auntie Anna helped me with the writing," she whispered. Jane's face lift up and she held Kat close, enjoying her 29th birthday with her new daughter. Well, real daughter.

|a few months later|

Jane sighed as she started washing the dishes after breakfast, ignoring the sharp pain in her stomach. She had just taken Kat to crèche and looked over at the calendar. October 24th. 24th October. Her death date. Even worse, she was 29. She was w9 when she died. She gasped as she collapsed to the floor in pain, just missing the sharp edge of the countertop. She slowly made her way to the sofa and flopped down on it, turning in the television in attempt to distract herself. She curled up with a hot water bottle and tears streaming down her cheeks as she settled in Once Upon A Time after what seemed like hours but was only minutes flicking through Netflix.

An hour later, Anna came over and helped Jane to bed before leaving. Jane moaned in pain as fresh tears fell, nuzzling into her pillow. "Mummy," she whimpered quietly, keeping her head hidden in the pillow.

Jane's pain grew worse and worse as the day went on. She'd asked Anne to pick up Kat, she knew her daughter would be delighted with seeing her Mother. A small smile graced her lips as she heard her ex wife and daughter come home.

Kat ran up to Jane and hugged her close, causing Jane to let out a loud cry of pain. Kat whimpered and turned around to Anne, hiding in her. Anne sat down and lifted Kat onto her lap after kissing Jane's temple. "Heya, Hun," she whispered softly, smiling sympathetically. Jane allowed Kat to take her hand and she nodded to show she'd heard Anne before she went cold.

"Mama! Mama! No! Don't go! Mama! I need you!" Kat sobbed and shook Jane's lifeless body, before settling down curled up on her chest. "Mama, why did you go? I need you, please," she whimpered as Anne picked her up. "Shh, mother's here," Anne crooned, stroking Kat's hair. "Mummy was very very sick, now she's gone to heaven with the angels," Anne explained as she sat on the sofa, cradling Kat. "She doesn't hurt anymore, and she's going to keep looking after you..." Kat whimpered and nuzzled into Anne. "But I'm not your mother anymore," Kat jumped up and wrapped her arms around Anne's neck. "Don't go," she whispered sadly, tears streaming down her cheeks. But Anne had already put the three year old on the sofa and walked out, leaving her alone with Jane's lifeless body. Kat called Anna and allowed herself to be comforted by her Auntie figure, nuzzling into her as she was tucked into bed at Anna's house. "I love you, KitKat,"
"I love you too, banana," she giggled softly.
Anna smiled and kissed her temple before leaving the room and texting Anne.
