Chapter 11: Zayn Is Impressed

A/N I am so sorry right now for this. I am a whole week and two days late (and Lucy wouldn't let me forget it. Funny, huh?), and I really owe you a chapter. I am so sorry, I've just been really busy this whole week, and I would have posted any day that I could. This has been the first day I could have.

I wish I could have updated last Friday, because then I could have updated on Harry's birthday and given him more birthday wishes. So, happy late birthday Harry Styles!

By the way, remember two chapters ago, in the Author's Note I asked your opinion on what you thought about the whole chapter from a 1D boy's perspective? Well, this one's one of those chapters! Here's the first special chapter!

Zayn’s POV

Is Kelly okay?

That was the thought that ran through my head when I saw her expression. She was on her phone, doing something. I didn’t exactly know what she was doing, but she seemed to be shocked by what she saw. I was about to walk over to her when Paul came back with the room keys.

Silently, Paul led us to the elevator. We all piled into the compartment and surprisingly fit inside.

The elevator took us to our floor, where we all stepped out. Hazza spoke up. “So, we were able to get six rooms on this floor, two beds per room. We’re going to have to have roommates.”

I immediately saw Lou make eye contact with Harry, and they were automatically roommates. That’s not very surprising.

I decided to switch it up a bit, so I chose to go with Courtney’s brother, Kyle. I turned to him, and asked, “Hey, Kyle?”

“Yeah? What’s up?” he asked, turning and facing me.

“Want to be roommates?” I offered.

He nodded. “Sure,” he said, smiling at me.

By that time, the girls had paired up as well, and Paul had begun distributing the correct room keys. I took my key from him and slipped it in the key slot, opening the door to the hotel room.

Kyle followed me inside, and we placed our things next to our beds. I took dibs on the bed closer to the door. After all, I would be leaving early tomorrow morning to make it to the interview with the lads on time.

I checked the time. It had taken longer than we expected to get through everything, so it was about time to get some sleep. I went into the bathroom and brushed my teeth before I crashed on the bed and fell asleep.

---------------------

Early the next morning, I woke up before Kyle, thanks to a knock on the door from someone to wake me up. If I had been able to, I would have slept in so much longer.

I slipped out from under the blankets and got dressed quickly and quietly so I wouldn’t wake Kyle up this time. Once I had slipped on a shirt and some jeans, and gotten my hair ready, I silently opened the door and walked out into the hall. The lads and I had to be early for the interview so we would be ready on time.

I knocked on Harry and Louis’s door, and then Liam and Niall’s. “You guys ready?” I asked through each door quietly.

Niall poked his head out of the room he was in. “Yeah, Liam and I are ready,” he answered, opening the door all the way and stepping out into the hall, Liam following him.

“Ready to go,” Louis answered as he opened his door and walked into the hall with Harry.

“Then let’s go,” I said, starting off towards the elevator. As I walked, the boys were behind me when we heard two doors squeak open and footsteps coming out into the hall behind us.

“Zayn?” a small voice, only slightly louder than a whisper, asked me. I recognized the voice as Courtney’s.

All five of us turned and faced her. I saw Lizzie standing next to her with a folded piece of paper in her hands, just big enough to fit in someone’s pocket.

“Yes? What is it?” I asked Courtney and Lizzie.

“Did we wake you up? We’re sorry. We were being as quiet as we could be,” Liam apologized.

“Don’t worry about it Liam,” Lizzie assured him. “We were already awake. In fact, we were waiting for you all, since we have something to show you.” She held out the piece of paper to me.

I took the paper and unfolded it carefully. My eyes widened when I saw what was on the paper. It was an amazing drawing…of me!

“Whoa. That’s an amazing drawing!” I exclaimed, meaning it.

“Kelly made it,” Lizzie informed me, a proud grin on her face.

“She’s brilliant!” Louis observed, peering at the drawing over my shoulder. “It looks just like you, mate!”

I looked at him with a slightly confused expression, and decided to have a little fun with that. “Don’t you think that was the point?”

Louis nodded. “Right…” he said.

“Anyway,” Harry changed the subject, thankfully. “It’s a great drawing. I’m really impressed.”

“Yeah, I agree,” Niall said. Liam nodded, agreeing with the compliments that had already been said.

“It really is. But, could you not tell Kelly about this? She was kind of nervous to show you guys,” Courtney told us.

“Why would she think that?” Liam asked.

“No clue. She probably just didn’t want to embarrass herself in case you didn’t like it,” Lizzie shrugged.

I nodded, understanding that. “Okay. But do you think that I could keep this, just for the day? I want to do something with it.”

“As long as you don’t destroy it, it’s fine,” Courtney responded.

“Great. Thanks, girls,” I said, folding the picture carefully on the original fold lines. Courtney and Lizzie smiled at us, and waved goodbye before going back to their rooms.

I looked down at the paper in my hands. She really is a great artist, and she’s a lovely girl as well. I really like her, of course. I’m just not sure if I like her that way, at least not yet. Hopefully I’ll figure it out sooner or later.

-------------------

“And live while we’re young.”

I finished the song, smiling at the crowd. The audience cheered and screamed up at us.

I searched the crowd for the girls and Kyle. They were supposed to be in a special area of the crowd that we had saved for the seven of them so they would have good seats for the concert. They were supposed to be there. I continued to look, and finally, my eyes locked with Kelly’s. She waved at me sweetly, smiling at me. I winked back at her, giving her a small smile.

The crowd, however, thought it was directed at them, roared. I chuckled softly, smiling to myself as the hosts came back onstage.

“Give it up for One Direction!” Josh Elliott, one of the hosts of Good Morning America, exclaimed, which caused the crowd to roar with excitement.

Liam waved at the crowd with a smile. Harry gave the audience a flirty wink, which actually seemed to be to everyone, unlike mine, which was directed to Kelly specifically. Louis and Niall both gave the crowd big grins, which all together caused the girls to scream again.

Both of the hosts smiled, and the woman, Lara Spencer, said, “We’ll be back to chat with them after the break!” The cameras shut off, and I saw some assistants carry some chairs onto the stage.

“Thanks,” I said to the assistants, not into the microphone, however.

The stagehands nodded and hurried off the stage after setting up our chairs.

The lads and I all took our seats in the chairs, and so did Josh and Lara.

The cameras came back on, and Josh began talking again. “And we’re back, with One Direction!” The crowd erupted in cheers again.

I can’t express how much I love the fans. But I can say that hearing all the fans cheering definitely makes my day.

“Thanks so much for having us,” Liam said politely, being Liam.

“No problem. We’re happy to have you,” Lara smiled at all of us. “How are all of you?”

“I’m doing great, thanks,” Harry smiled at her.

“I’m great, thank you,” Niall said, grinning.

“I’m fine, thanks,” I said, smiling to prove it. I felt the folded paper in my pocket, the one with Kelly’s drawing on it. I knew exactly what I was going to do. As I thought about it, I didn’t hear Louis or Liam’s responses, although I knew they would say they were doing good too.

Thankfully, I started listening again just in time to hear a question from Josh. “Now, let’s just to get this out of the way, I think all the fans are wondering who are those girls that you’ve been seen with recently. So, who are they?”

The crowd screamed to show that was what they wanted to know. Okay, so they really were curious.

“The six of them are some amazing fans that wrote us a letter recently-.” Harry began, but then corrected himself. “It was actually almost two months ago, so I guess it wasn’t that recent.”

“And they’re in the crowd now,” Niall added, smiling.

“Are they really?” Lara asked.

Louis nodded. “Yup. Somewhere in that crowd are six girls we’re going to spend the summer with.” He grinned widely as he finished the sentence.

“And one of them is a fantastic artist,” I heard myself say, pulling out the folded paper from my pocket and unfolding it carefully.

“That’s amazing! Who drew it?” Josh inquired.

I smiled, and said, “Her name is Kelly. She really is an amazing artist, isn’t she?"

Josh and Lara both nodded. “She is,” Lara said, as I set the picture down in my lap. “Speaking of that kind of praise, are you dating any of the six girls?”

All five of us shook our heads, although I didn’t automatically like I thought I would. Maybe it was because I was starting to develop feelings for her? Maybe, I don’t know. I’ll have to think on it.

“Nope. None of us are dating any of them, or anyone. Right now, we’re all single,” Liam told her, telling the truth. The crowd erupted in cheering again. I smiled to myself.

“Alright, you heard it here first, One Direction is entirely single,” Josh said, looking at the camera with a chuckle. The lads and I had that same reaction.

“So, are you working on some new music?” Lara asked us, but I let the rest of the boys answer instead. My gaze flickered over towards Kelly, who had her mouth wide open as she looked at me. I still was holding the picture in my hands, but now it was in my lap.

She mouthed to me, “How did you get that?”

I didn’t answer, but instead, listened to Lara and Josh’s questions. I would tell her about it later.

--------------------

After the interview, we decided to go back to the hotel just to rest for a little bit before going out to explore. We piled into the van and sat down. We were silent the whole ride, or at least, Kelly and I were. The rest of the group was talking and smiling.

When we got back to the hotel, the girls walked into the lobby and towards the elevators. The lads and I instead were able to sign a few autographs and pose with the fans.

Once we had done this for a little while, we made our way into the hotel lobby. The girls and Kyle were waiting there for us. The rest of the lads took the lead and walked to the elevator, the girls and Kyle following. Kelly, on the other hand, stayed behind. She motioned for me to come over, and I obliged.

As soon as I arrived, she took a seat in one of the chairs in the lobby. I took the one next to her. “Kelly, is everything okay?” I asked her, since she had been so quiet on the van.

“How did you get that picture?” She asked me, with slight nervousness in her voice as I pulled the piece of paper with her drawing out of my pocket. “That one,” she pointed at the paper, looking down at it and then looking up at me.

“Courtney and Lizzie gave it to me this morning,” I answered her. “Why would you be so nervous to show me and the rest of the lads this? It’s an amazing drawing, Kelly."

“Because…I didn’t want to embarrass myself in front of you if you didn’t like it,” she told me.

“Why wouldn’t I like it? It’s an amazing drawing, Kelly. You’re a great artist, and the world needed to see it,” I told her, meaning every word. I held out the picture. “Here, if you want it back, you can have it.”

Kelly shook her head and pushed the paper back at me. “Keep it, Zayn. I don’t need it anymore. Besides, now the whole world’s seen it anyway.” She shrugged a bit, giving me a tiny smile.

I grinned, and said, “Thank you, Kelly.” I slipped the picture back in my pocket and stood up. Turning to her, I asked, “Ready to go meet up with the rest of the group?”

Kelly nodded, and stood up. The two of us walked to the elevator together.

--------------------

As I lay on my bed later that day, just thinking, my mind drifted to Kelly. I really liked her, of course. I just wasn’t sure about how to keep going on. Maybe I should ask her out? Or should we just stay friends?

I don’t want to put her in the spotlight of the paparazzi if she doesn’t want to be. If I ask her out, she’ll be put in it for sure. They’ll want to know all about her, and she won’t have that normal life she had before. Then again, she probably won’t ever again thanks to us.

I thought about what I should do. Kelly is such a lovely girl. She has a great personality and is, of course, beautiful. But that’s not the point. I like her, but I’m not sure what to do.

I guess I’ll need to think about this a bit more. I still have almost two months to think about it, right? That’ll be enough time to decide, right?

Won’t it?
