CHAPTER 63

"Destroying the pride of many Asuras and saving hermitages. Shri Ram, Laxman and Janki finally reached the banks of Godavari. And there they met a pious soul." Krishna said.

"Which sage did they meet now ?" Sehdev asked.

"Not a sage. But a bird." Krishna smiled.

------

"Bhaiya, that river must surely be Godavari." Laxman said.

"So this is Panchavati." Janki said looking around the beautiful forest. Indeed it was more beautiful than what she had heard.

Gazing around her eyes fell on a big vulture, which startled her for a moment.

"Oh my !" Janki muttered causing Shri Ram and Laxman to look at the direction as well.

"Such a big vulture ! That must surely be a Mayavi demon ! I shall send him to Yamlok !" Laxman said raising his bow.

"Laxman ! Calm down ! Remember one must never attack someone without knowing if they are friend or enemy." Shri Ram said.

Laxman nodded and puts his arrow back in the quiver. Shri Ram approached the big vulture as Janki and Laxman following him.

"O great bird ! I would like to know who you are so mighty ? And from which prestigious clan do you belong to ?" Shri Ram asked.

The big vulture looked at them suspiciously, as to who are they interested in knowing about him. Shri Ram saw his hesitation and thus introduced himself first.

"I, Dashrath-nandan Ram, along with my wife Sita and brother Laxman greet you." Shri Ram said.

"Vats, by taking the name of my swargiye mitra Dashrath you have made me feel elated. He was a great king and became my good friend during Devasur sangram, when he defeated Chandrasur. Raghunandan, Rishi Kashyap with his wife Vinta had two sons, Garud and Arun. The brave Garud became the vaahan of Bhagwan Vishnu and Arun became the charioteer of Suryadev. I am the younger son of the same Arun, Jatayu. My elder brother Sampati is the king of vultures." The great vulture said.

Listening to his introduction, Shri Ram, Laxman and Janki smiled with great pleasure.

"Pakshi-raj, we are truly blessed today. It's like I have met my father again by meeting you. Now I feel that I am with a father and safe. It's so nice that we were about to make our cottage here only." Shri Ram said.

"Yes, Vats. That place near the river would be ideal for you. I will always stand guard around it and protect you." Jatayu said.

"As you say." Shri Ram nodded and all three bowed.
