CHAPTER 13

"After a sleepless night, the day of Swayamvar finally came. Kings from all around Aryavart had come to compete." Krishna said.

"I am sure none of them were as brilliant as Shri Ram." Nakul said.

------

With excitement in the hearts, forgetting their own works, to witness the Swayamvar of their beloved princess Sita, men and women have gathered.

Around 5000 men of illimitable energy pulled the huge cart carrying the Shiv Dhanush and brought it in the royal pavillion where illustrious kings had gathered to show their strength.

The kings present boasted on how they will pick the Shiv Dhanush and string it with ease and win this Swayamvar, attaining Sita with their valor and strength.

The shankhnaads were blown as Janak entered the arena followed by his ministers. The kings present in the stadium all stood up and payed respect to their host.

Janak also joined his hand greeting everyone as he walked towards his throne and sat down, gesturing the rest of the kings to sit down as well.

"Raghuvanshi Yuvraj Ram Chandra and Soumitra Laxman along with Brahmarishi Vishwamitra are entering the arena !" The guards announced.

Shankhnaads were blown as the three glorious men entered the royal pavillion. Seeing the young valorous archers the kings became insecure, especially seeing Shri Ram.

All eyes were fixed on him, as he entered along with Laxman and Vishwamitra. Different people with different mindset, saw him differently.

The kings present there saw him as a threat, who is capable to winning the Swayamvar and attaining Sita. The sages present there recognised him as Narayan and joined their hands.

To Janak, the sight of Shri Ram was priceless and ever so pleasing. He couldn't help but join his hands and bow his head to pay obeisance to Shri Ram.

Janak stood up from his seat as Vishwamitra came in front of him. The old king touched the feet of the Brahmarishi.

"I request Brahmarishi and his students to have a seat." Janak said pointing at the high seat.

Vishwamitra went and sat down along with Shri Ram and Laxman on his either side. The royals their frowned as to why a two young princes are getting more honour than kings.

They assured themselves that the two princes are still very young and won't be able to lift the mighty Shiv Dhanush. They mumbled among themselves and chuckled.

Now Janak came forward to greet the entire sabha as all the participants were present.

"I welcome everyone present here at the Swayamvar of my eldest daughter Sita. You have obliged me by being here. The prospective groom for my Janki shall be tested here. Great warriors ! This Shiv Dhanush has been with our kul since generations. Whosoever lifts and strings this bow shall be the one garlanded by my daughter." Janak said.

The old king sat down on the throne and gestured a servant to call Sita. Soon the Shankhnaads were blown once more, as the bride arrived.

Accompanied by her sisters, mothers and friends Janki entered the pavilion. Inumerous eyes got settled on her, the impatient kings seemed to have lost their compure seeing the divine beauty in front of them.

Getting the holy glimpse of Sita, Laxman feels blessed and devoted, Vishwamitra became overwhelmed with affection and warmth, while Shri Ram smiles seeing her.

Janak seeing his beloved daughter in the attire of bride with gaze lowered in humility, he feels victorious by her piousness.

Janki walks ahead spreading joy and delight to all those who saw her sight, beyond words and comparison. Any title or praise bestowed on her would be less.

Every King sighed seeing her, they all were aspirants to win her hand. Some of them were good while some were vile. But to Janki it didn't matter, for she is not thinking of anyone else but Shri Ram.

As she walked past the high seat, her lowered eyes looked at the feet of Shri Ram, a strong desire to touch and worship them arose in her heart but she controlled herself.

Reaching in front of Janak she raised her eyes and joins her hand, paying obeisance to her father and then bowing to the gurus and sages.

Finally she along with her sisters, mothers and friends walks up to their place and Janki sits down on the throne, it seems as though Mata Laxmi was sitting on her lotus.

------

"Truly a divine sight of devi Janki it would've been." Sehdev said.

"Indeed. So divine, so pure, so beautiful that Shri Ram would've never forgotten it. Even if he took another birth." Krishna said and then sighed.
