HOLLY, JOLLY
Julie's outfit above!
November 9, 1983
Julie and the boys get out of her car then form into a circle.
"Don't forget. We're meeting El at 3:15." Mike informs them.
"She is wearing the clothes I brought her, right? She can't keep walking around in your clothes, Mike."
"Yeah. She put on one of the shirts and a pair of pants you gave her. She looked really cute."
"Cute, huh?" Julie asks with a raised eyebrow. "She told me that you called her pretty."
"Wh-What?! I-I... Gotta go!" Mike runs to the school while Julie laughs as Dustin and Lucas shake their heads.
"Alright, rugrats. Be on your best behavior today and I'll see you guys after school."
"Sure thing, Jules." Dustin nods.
They then go their separate ways. After heading to her locker, she feels someone rest their head on her shoulder. She smiles knowing who it is.
"Girl, I am so tired."
"So how things go with Lonnie yesterday?"
"Short version. Lonnie is the biggest asshole I have ever met. If Johnny hadn't held me back, I would've strangled the man. And Johnny is the worst road trip partner! He wouldn't even let me pick the tunes and when we stopped for snacks, he tried to make me get something healthy! Next road trip we take, you're coming with us."
Julie laughs. "I'm only hearing good things. At least you two didn't try to kill each other. But Lonnie? I don't still don't understand how Joyce got together with him. She's like the sweetest person ever and him? He's a horrible human being. I still remember Jonathan's tenth birthday."
"Oh yeah, you told me about that. Lonnie tried to make Johnny shoot a rabbit so you stepped in and kicked Lonnie where the sun doesn't shine. You took Johnny and ran, your dad showed up and saw what was happening-"
"And he threatened to shoot Lonnie where the sun doesn't shine." Julie laughs.
"Like father, like daughter." Sonia says with a smirk. "That's why you don't mess with a cop's little girl."
"Got that right. Come on, let's get to class."
Later when school finally ends, Julie gathers her things and heads to the parking lot. However on the way there, she sees Steve, Nancy, Tommy and Carol surrounding Jonathan.
"What's going on?" Sonia asks coming up next to her.
"Let's go find out."
The girls hurry over to them to see Steve grab Jonathan's camera from his bag.
"What do you all think you're doing?!" Julie yells when her and Sonia go to stand in front of Jonathan.
Steve goes silent seeing his ex-friend and looks down at the ground. Tommy notices this and decides to speak instead.
"Your friend here was taking pictures of us last night...without our knowledge."
When the girls see the pictures Nancy holds, Sonia quickly takes them from her and her eyes widened as she looks through them.
"Jonathan, what the hell were you thinking?!" Sonia mutters to him.
"Shame you didn't come to the party, Jules." Tommy continues. "Nancy invited you, didn't she?"
"First, don't speak to me. Second, don't call me that. Only people close to me can call me by that nickname. Third, I wouldn't be caught dead with you or your desperate girlfriend."
"You-" Carol steps forward but stops when Sonia glares at her.
"Girl if you try anything, your ass will be the ground in the next second."
Carol cowers behind Tommy as Julie puts her hand out.
"Give me the camera."
"...That's the first thing you say to me in three years?"
"I will deal with Jonathan. Now give me the fucking camera, Steve." Julie snaps angrily.
"This guy is a creep so we should take his toy-"
"Fine. Since I'm the one who brought him the camera, I'll take responsibility."
"Jules, no-" Jonathan tries to step in but Julie cuts him off.
"He knows he was wrong. I wish I could say the same about someone else but what can I say? Because of the crowd he hangs out with, he's still very much an asshole."
"Steve." Nancy says in a pleading tone.
"...Alright." Steve hands the camera to Julie and she takes it back.
"What?! No! He needs to be taught a lesson!" Tommy takes a step forward.
"Pretty sure that you bullies are the ones who need a lesson." Sonia says pulling Julie behind her. "So if any of you as so much lay a hand on either of my best friends, I'll happily teach you that lesson. You should know not to test me."
"You-"
"Walk away."
"...Come on. The game's about to start." He says, walking away.
Tommy sighs and shakes his head, going to follow him as Carol does the same. However, Nancy stays with the three. Julie and Sonia turn to face Jonathan, Julie gives him back his camera as Sonia holds up the photos.
"Have you lost your mind?" Sonia asks. "What were you thinking?"
"Apologize to Nancy."
"...I'm sorry. I shouldn't had taken them. I wasn't thinking clearly..."
Before Nancy can reply, Steve calls out to her. "Nance! Come on!"
"Nancy, I'll take care of the photos. Don't worry about it, okay?"
Nancy gives Julie a small smile and nods. She looks at Jonathan once more before going after Steve and the others. Unknown to them, Nancy is holding onto a picture of Barb...
"Was it about Will?"
He sighs and nods. "I was in the woods trying to find evidence of Will's disappearance."
"What?!" Sonia shouts and holds up a picture of Nancy up. "What does your missing brother have to do with a party?! With this?!"
"Jonathan, I want you to destroy these pictures. Something you should have done before or after you developed them. You saw how these turned out, so why did you keep them? I understand you want to find Will, I do too. But don't you ever pull a stunt like this again, understand? Think about the consequences. Think about your mother... Now I have to go."
Jul.ie heads over to her car to see the boys waiting for her.
"Is something wrong?" Mike asks.
"No... Nothing you all need to worry about. Come on, El's waiting for us."
While walking in the hallway, Steve grabs Tommy's arm and pulls him away from the girls.
"Tommy, I told you to never lay a fucking finger on her and you still tried to!" He growls.
"You still care about her? That's funny considering that she's hated you for three years. You chose us over her."
"Tommy, leave her alone. I mean it."
"...Okay, okay. Fine."
Julie and the boys get out of the car and head towards Eleven. As soon as Eleven notices Julie, she rushes over to her and the two hug.
"You really like Jules, huh?" Dustin asks. "It's understandable. I mean, who doesn't love our Julie? She's the best big sister ever!"
"Aww, Dusty!" Julie says as she lightly pinches his cheek.
"...Sister?"
"Yeah." Mike nods. "Julie isn't just our babysitter, she's like a big sister. She's always played arcade games with us. If not Sonia, then she would be the one to help us with our homework. Makes the best milkshakes. And she's always looked out for us. The bullies don't want to mess her or Sonia."
Eleven smiles and holds onto Julie's hand leading her away from the group.
"Wait... Is she trying to steal Julie from us?!"
"There's enough of me to go around, Lucas!" Julie yells.
As the girls walk ahead of the boys, Julie decides to start a conversation.
"So, El. Where are you from?"
"...I don't know."
"...What about your parents?"
"...Papa is bad."
"Bad?"
"He scares me."
"Why... Does he hurt you?" Eleven doesn't answer her. "El, is there a reason why you don't want me to say anything to my father?"
"...Papa, all the bad people will find me. I can't go back there."
"...Okay. I understand."
Later on, they make it out of the woods only to see that Eleven led them to the Byers' home.
"Here." Eleven tells them.
"Yeah, this is where Will lives." Mike says confused.
"Hiding."
"No, this is where he lives. Will is missing, understand?"
Lucas shakes his head and stomps over to Mike. "What are we doing here?"
"She says he's hiding here."
"I swear if we walked all the way out here for nothing-" Dustin says until Lucas cuts him off.
"That's exactly what we did! I told you she doesn't know what the hell she's talking about!"
"Lucas, stop it!" Julie yells.
Mike sighs and turns to Eleven. "Why did you bring us here?"
"We should have gone to Julie's dad like we planned!"
"We're not telling him anything!"
As the two argue, Julie crouches and places her hands on Eleven's shoulders. "El, when you say that Will is hiding here...do you mean another world? The upside down?"
Eleven hesitantly nods. "Bad place."
"How bad is it?"
"...Dangerous."
"...Could he die there?" Julie's voice cracks.
Before Eleven can answer, they hear sirens, police cars driving down the road. Getting a bad feeling, Julie chases after them ignoring the kids' calls. She ends up at the quarry, noticing all the police cars. As she gets closer, she notices a body being pulled out of the lake... Hopper turns around when he hears a scream. He rushes over to her and catches her before she can hit the ground.
"It can't be Will." Mike cries and turns to Eleven whose eyes glisten. "You were suppose to help us find him! You said he was alive! Why did you lie to us?! Friends don't lie! What is wrong with you?!"
Mike runs off as Lucas and Dustin plead for him not to go. Hopper continues to tightly hold onto his daughter who cries and screams in his arms.
What do you think? It's kind of a struggle on where to fit Julie in at certain parts of the episodes. I know most of her interactions in this first book are going to be with the rugrats, Hopper, Joyce, Sonia and Jonathan. Next chapter I plan for it to be her, Joyce and a few more Hopper interactions!
Also, I hope I did a good job with situation the picture situation. That was also a struggle on how to write that scene.
