Chapter Six
"I wouldn't get comfortable if I were you two." She hissed, I kept my composer as best I could while she washed her hands.
"Luke invited us to stay." Clem said.
"Good for him, but that's not how things work around here. You both got what you came for, now go." Rebecca hissed.
Clem and I glanced at each other in disgust was Rebecca left us to finish eating, but then we had to get up early the next morning so we could go finishing with Pete and Nick.
We walked with Pete and Nick through the forest, towards the river. But when Pete started talking about when he first taught Nick to use a rifle and Nick got angry, so he went ahead to the river without us. Suddenly, he called for Pete so the three of us approached him to see three dead bodies.
There was no ammo or alive walkers/people we could see so Pete headed to the farther side of the river, while Clementine and I stayed in the middle. As we glanced at the bodies, we noticed out backpacks sitting by a log near one of the dead bodies. Turns out that one wasn't dead. He asked for water, but we refused. Suddenly Pete and Nick started calling out for help.
We had to choose who to save, but we weren't thinking straight and we both headed to the same person- Nick.
"No! You could've saved him." Nick hissed, as we all looked on to see that Pete was eaten by walkers.
"We have to go!" Clem yelled, I agreed.
Then we found an old shed in the forest, so we hid in there while there were walkers on the outside trying to get in. Nick, Clem, and I held the door but soon Nick ran over and got a box, shoving it up against the door. We were safe- for now.
"Why did you both leave my uncle, back at the stream?" Nick asked, sitting in a chair.
"He got bit. He wasn't going to make it even if one of us went to you and the other went to Pete." I explained, Nick was surprised.
"What do we do now?" Clem asked, Nick sighed.
"We should look around, there's probably something to help us get out of here." I suggested, Nick just stared at the wall.
"Knock yourselves out." He muttered.
We searched the entire shed until Clem moved a piece of ply wood to reveal many mason jars full of whiskey. Nick started drinking them and we all decided that we should just wait. So we did. Later that night, Clem and I were awoken by Nick. He was throwing the mason jars of whiskey onto the wall.
"Stop it! You're going to alert the walkers." I hissed, Nick went to throw another jar, but lower it and sighed.
"I had to kill my mom. Huh, sounds weird when I say it out loud. Luke always used to push me, I never wanted to go into business with him. I remember when he sold me on it. His big plan, some fucking plan. A case of beer in he just said, 'Nick we're burning daylight.' and that was that. After six months, we were flat broke. I didn't care, we were having fun. I wish I was like him, I wish I could just keep moving all the time. But I'm just not, built like that. Everyone I grew up with..it all, happened to them." Nick took a sip of whiskey.
"Now it's gonna happen to us." He said, I sighed.
"We'll make it." I said.
"Bullshit." He replied. "I mean, what's the point? We'll just match to some new place and somebody else will die. It's never gonna stop. And eventually, it'll be our turn. I can't believe we've been here a day. A day! It's been a day, right?" He kept drinking the whiskey.
Nick handed it to us too, but of course- we refused.
"You two should go, they're not coming for us. Run for it." He said, Clem and I were starstruck.
"What? W-What are you gonna do?" Clem asked.
"Stay here. I'm tired." Nick replied.
"We knew someone like you, screwing up all the time." I hissed, Nick seemed triggered by my statement.
"Screwing up? I didn't ask for any of this." He responded.
"Nobody does, but so what?" Clementine replied.
"Come with us." I said.
"And leave all this?" He asked, gesturing to the jars of whiskey.
"You can't just sit here and die." I hissed.
"Why not? What does it matter?" Nick responded.
"You still have Luke, and everyone else. They're family." Clementine added, Nick didn't change.
After a little more persuading, we were able to get Nick to come back with us to the house. So Clem and I pulled the box out of the way and the three of us started off towards the house. Once we were outside, Nick smacked one of the walkers and made lots of noise, so now all the walkers wanted a piece of us.
"Shit." I muttered, as the three of us started running.
Instead of running, Nick distracted the walkers so we could escape. We tried to make him come with us, but he refused. So Clementine and I ran, we ran until we got back to the house. We discovered that Alvin and Luke went looking for us and were still out there.
So Clementine and I had to watch over Sarah while Carlos and Rebecca went to search for the rest of the group. Clem and I headed up stairs but as we opened the door Sarah took a picture of us with the old camera. She asked us to take a picture so we eventually did, and then Sarah saw Luke in her window.
We headed downstairs to see it wasn't Luke who wanted inside, it was some random man that Clem and I never had seen before. Sarah though, reconized him and she went to hide while Clem and I approached the door.
