James: You're Coming with Me, Mate
Sure enough, two letters arrived for Sirius the next day, one from his parents, and one from Mr. and Mrs. Potter.
The first, from his parents, read:
Sirius,
Professor McGonagall has stated her concern for your wellbeing at our house. Of how you have spoken about our family, we are greatly ashamed. Therefore we gladly hand you over to the Potter's care, in hope that they can straighten you out a little and teach you how to appreciate the importance of a pureblood family-
"There it is, mate, I knew they would drag in the whole 'pureblood are might' thing." James said. He had been reading the letter over Sirius's shoulder. Sirius grinned a little and continued reading.
-of a pureblood family, because we are sure they value it as much as we do.
James scoffed. "Daft, your parents are." He said, rolling his eyes.
Good riddance, and have a great rest of term! We'll have Kreacher send your gift by owl.
Mum and Dad
"They're sending you a gift." Remus said in surprise. He had come over to read the letter as well.
"Yeah, but they're having Kreacher do it." Sirius muttered, crumbling up the letter and chucking it into the fire.
"So?" Peter asked, scurrying over to join them.
"So," Sirius began, putting as much emphasis on the word as possible, "that rotten little elf will probably switch out the gift with maggots, or otherwise forget to send it."
"Oh," Peter muttered.
A group of girls walked by and James ruffled his already messy hair. "Lily isn't in the group, you bloke." Sirius pointed out as James watched them walk by.
"Well...since Evans doesn't seem to want me, I figured I could go for a different girl-WHY ARE YOU ALL STARING AT ME!?"
And so it was, Remus, Peter, and Sirius were staring at James with various looks of disbelief and amusement etched upon their faces. "You, stop going after Lily Evans?" Remus asked, cocking an eyebrow skeptically.
James nodded. "I realized how much time I've been spending mooning over her...so I've given her up."
"Like hell you have!" Sirius roared. Peter and Remus burst into laughter.
James's cheeks reddened. "Why don't you just read the letter from my mother, please?" He muttered.
Sirius picked up the roll of parchment. "Gladly, mate." He said happily, unrolling it.
Dear Sirius,
Professor McGonagall has brought up the fact that you'd prefer to stay with us rather than your own parents. We've already sent a letter to your parents and we'd be happy to have you! We'll see you soon!
Lots of Love,
Mr. and Mrs. Potter
"Well, mate, we'll be having you over for Christmas!" James said excitedly, thumping Sirius on the back. Sirius grinned. "Thanks mate," he said.

The next day Remus, Sirius, James, and Peter got a compartment together on the Hogwarts Express.
Peter, who was sitting near the window, was doodling something in the frost. He had situated himself so, much to their disliking, Sirius and James couldn't read it. Remus, who was sitting beside him, leaned over to read it.
He let out a shout of laughter. Peter jumped, revealing what he had written on the window to James and Sirius.
Betty+Peter
What could have possibly made it better? Well the fact that it was written in a heart with a little arrow going through I greatly helped the situation.
Sirius and James roared with laughter as Peter's cheeks reddened. "That was private!" He yelled. "Then why did you write it on the bloody window!?" James shouted. Peter's face turned redder. "I was going to erase it!"
James opened his mouth to say something but he was interrupted by a sound from outside of their compartment. It sounded like a mouse being fed to a cat.
All four boys turned around and found a short girl with short brown hair and glasses staring at what Peter had drawn.
Betty Fey.
"IT'S NOT YOU!" Peter yelled. "IT'S A DIFFERENT BETTY!"
Sirius, James and Remus roared with laughter as she scurried away, followed closely by her friends. Peter slumped so low in his seat he fell out of it, and his face was red enough to match a tomato.
"'IT'S A DIFFERENT BETTY!'" Sirius mocked. James and Remus laughed harder.
Peter grumbled and heaved himself back into his seat, where he turned resolutely away from his friends and stared crossly out the window.
Laughter about Peter and Betty lasted most of the train ride. When they finally stopped at Kings Cross Station, Peter was the first one out of the compartment, and by the time everyone else had helped themselves out, he had left with his parents, without saying goodbye.
"Bit of a prat, he is." James muttered as he hauled his trunk through the barrier, followed closely by SIRIUS and Remus.
"He's always been one," Sirius agreed. Remus nodded.
Mr. and Mrs. Potter smiled and waved Sirius and James over. "So glad to have you, Sirius, dear!" Mrs. Potter crowed, pulling Sirius into a bone crushing hug.
"Nice to see you too," Sirius squeaked as the breath was squeezed out of him. Mrs. Potter let go of him and held him at arm's length. "You look wonderful!" She said.
Sirius grinned. Mrs. Potter let go of him and Mr. Potter appeared next. He grasped Sirius's hand firmly with both of his own and shook it heartily. "Excited to have you, my dear boy, excited to have you!" He exclaimed.
Sirius laughed. "Thank you so much, by the way." He said once Mr. Potter had stopped wringing his hand.
"It's not problem, m'boy! No problem at all!" Mr. Potter assured him while Mrs. Potter nodded vigorously.
Sirius smiled again, then he turned to Remus. "See ya around, Mr. Moony."
Remus grinned. "Of course, Mr. Padfoot, and you, Mr. Prongs." He said, shaking Sirius's hand as well as James's.
Remus headed off to look for his own parents. Sirius and James grinned at each other, then followed Mr. and Mrs. Potter out of Kings Cross.
