1.) What is your name and age? (if you are comfortable telling us)

• My name is Diya and I'm 18 years old.

2.) How did you first land on wattpad?

• I remember reading RoSid fanfiction on India Forums when I was about 14. I was obsessed with them then. So I wanted to read more stories about them and that's how I landed on Wattpad.

3.) What made you want to start writing? What was your inspiration?

• So as I said, I was a fan of daily soaps. I loved shows like Madhubala, Ishqbaaz and so on. But I always myself, 'why is the male lead the rich one every time whereas the female lead is from a middle class family'?

So I hoped that someone would write a story where both the characters were just like regular people. Not a celebrity. Then one day when I was bored and had nothing to read I was like 'why don't I write a book? Share the story I want to'. And that's how it started.

My inspiration was myself. I wanted representation for all the Tamil girls out there like me.

4.) From where do you get the ideas of your books?

• The idea of the book was something that I thought about when I was 15. I happened to just imagine scenes out of nowhere. Be it when I'm sleeping, listening to music or just about anything. So I was like, why not add it in!

5.) Which genre book are you currently writing? And what are the other genre that you wish to explore in future?

• I'm currently writing a romance genre book. And I would definitely want to try the horror one day.

6.) What will you advice to the aspiring, new writers?

• I'm a new writer myself, hehehe. But one important thing is to never doubt yourselves. I used to pull myself down saying no one would even like my story or that it's not worth reading.

Never do that! Your book will be loved and your hard work will be appreciated! The initial phase will be slow, you might not get many readers. But slowly it will start picking up. Have faith and all the best!

8.) Do you pre-plan the things that you write or it comes to you as you write the story?

• I drew a mind map of the storyline first. So the important part of the story was all pre-planned way before. A few scenes here and there were just random thoughts that came as I wrote.

9.) What motivated you to start writing?

• As mentioned earlier, it was myself. Growing up I never really saw an actress with dark skin in Indian movies.

A few days before I started writing the book, I had a conversation with my sister about how to be an actress the only requirement you probably need is fair skin.

So all these little conversations and memories were the sparks for me to write my female lead the way she is. And that's how the whole story came.

10.) What are the challenges that you face while writing?

• Writer's block. Even though I know what I was going to do in the next twentieth chapter, I didn't know how to bring the story across in the previous chapters.

Editing was another issue. It took a lot of time but even then there were a few errors here and there, hehehe.

11.) How do you feel and what do you do when readers criticize you or your work?

• I have only gotten one. It was about how I could write a particular scene. But it made me upset because of how the person's mindset towards certain things was despite me explaining my reason for that scene.

So I brought it up to my friend and she cheered me up saying some people are just like that. And that criticism is normal. So I was fine after that.

12.) Do you write secretly? Or does your family knows? If yes, then how do they feel about it?

• I write secretly and I never want my family to know. I don't think I'll be able to look at them anymore because of certain stuff in the book. It's mature for a reason, hehehe
