17.
Y/N had just finished clearing the table and was currently feeding Milo when someone knocked at her door, maybe Kiko had forgotten something.
It wasn't Kiko.
It was Kim Taehyung.
The look he gave Y/N made her mouth run dry, heart pounding against her chest.
What the hell was he doing here?
It started out with the six friends drinking bourbon chasers at Taehyung's studio apartment, wasn't supposed to end up with them getting drunk but as the six discussed everything that had happened in their lives since they last met and spent some quality time together one chaser turned to two.. three..four and well you can see where it would lead.
Jungkook was leaning out of the window, inked forearms resting on cool glass as he sparked up. "Same old same old." He drawled, spliff captured between soft plump lips. "Still at the garage, who knew working on motorbikes would be my calling." He chuckled, so much for his days at college studying performing arts.
"Still no girl to bring home to meet the parents?" Hoseok teased, totally nonplussed when Jungkook narrowed his eyes.
"I'm young and enjoying myself, definitely don't want to think about serious relationships." He scoffed; smoke coming to rest on his tongue before exhaling and watching as the wisps twisted gracefully before blending with the inky canvas above.
"What about you Jimin, work okay?" Namjoon cocked a brow quizzically, chin resting on the palm of his hand as the kitchen counter supported his weight.
Jimin gave a shrug, brow furrowed as he knocked back another chaser. "It pays the bills, fucking hate it though." The other five nod in understanding, handling customer queries for designer outlets across the country didn't exactly sound intriguing. Jimin wanted to quit but the pay was quite substantial, a change in career now would only see a loss in salary and so he stuck with it regardless of how much he dispised it.
"Before you ask, still single and happy." He smirked, fist bumping Jungkook as the younger passed him the spliff.
Hoseok looks between the two and chuckles.
"You two need to settle down eventually, can't survive on meaningless flings forever." He tilted his head back, eyes filled with love as Yoongi shot him a playful grin; long fingers moving gently through his hair. Things hadn't changed for them much, the two still together and very much in love. Yoongi focusing on his song writing and Hoseok teaching dance at the local academy, they had recently started looking into surrogacy; the two desperately wanting to start a family of their own.
"We can set up playdates!" Namjoon added, excited at the prospect of his friends having children.
"How is Jess doing? The pregnancy going well?" Yoongi inquired, placing a kiss to Hoseok's crown when he shuffled back between his legs.
"She's doing great, weird ass cravings at ridiculous times but she's been incredible." Namjoon smiled, dimples showing as he sighed fondly at the thought of his pregnant wife.
"You've been pretty quiet tonight Tae, everything okay?" Jimin questioned from his spot on the couch, muscular torso hanging over the arm as he returned the spliff to Jungkook's eager inked fingers.
Taehyung didn't mean to come across as rude, he loved his friends and enjoyed spending time with them especially as the six had extremely busy lives which kept them apart for most of the year but there was something or rather someone on his mind and they hadn't left since the drink started to flow a little more freely.
It infuriated him, maybe scared him a little too because she seemed to call to him no matter where he was or what he was doing.
Was this obsession? Why couldn't he spend a simple night catching up with friends without thoughts of her calling to him through the haze.
He caught snippets of the conversation his friends shared, something about Jungkook and bikes but the rest of what he said a blur thanks to purple umbrellas and first kisses shared beneath.
He seemed to remember Jimin mention something about one night stands but the rest was lost to traumatic pasts shared and complete support and understanding returned.
There was something about surrogacy, Namjoon getting excited over playdates but then hooded eyes and cerulean paint on curves had his breath hitching.
He needed to see her, could scarcely breathe without her near.
She had listened and comforted him.
Trusted him.
He needed to tell her about the list.
The other five voiced their displeasure when Taehyung said he needed to leave; the artist expressed how sorry he was and that he would make it up to them tomorrow with breakfast which seemed to do the trick.
"You sure about this?" Namjoon asked at the door, brow furrowed in concern. "You've been drinking Tae, don't want her to get the wrong idea when you just show up unannounced."
Taehyung appreciated the concern; slender fingers giving Namjoon's shoulder a reassuring squeeze.
"I've had eight chasers hyung, enough to feel a buzz but not actually get me drunk, I wouldn't be doing this otherwise."
"I've never seen you like this before Tae, be careful okay? I don't want you throwing yourself so deeply especially if she's not willing to do the same, keep your guard up okay?" Namjoon knows Taehyung; knows his friend will fall quickly and deeply but after losing Jin his heart was still in a weak state and the last thing he wanted was for his friend to go through anymore pain.
"I know hyung, just trust me on this okay?" Taehyung appreciated the concern but wasn't about to change his mind, this was what he wanted...she was what he needed.
Namjoon gave a nod, asking him to call in the morning when he was ready to meet for breakfast.
Jungkook yelled out how whipped Taehyung was which was immediately followed by Jimin cackling as Hoseok chastised them both.
"He's smitten, stop teasing him! Yoongi tell them!"
The last thing Taehyung heard as he stepped outside his apartment was Jungkook and Jimin mocking Hoseok.
"Yoongi tell them."
~
It was twenty minutes later when Taehyung was greeted by a shocked looking Y/N, beautiful eyes blown wide in surprise and confusion as she held open the door to her apartment.
"Can I come in?" He eventually said, voice dropping an octave if that was even possible.
How was she this beautiful?
It didn't matter to him if other people found her attractive or not, it wouldn't make sense for all of us to be enamoured by the same types of people.
Most would see her as damaged goods but to Taehyung.....fuck to Taehyung she was everything he never expected but needed desperately. He was enamoured, lost in the enigma that was his siren.
"Taehyung are you drunk?" Those sinful, captivating lips parted as the words elegantly tumbled out.
"No, slightly buzzed after a few chasers but nothing to inebrate me. I wouldn't be here otherwise, you know I wouldn't."
There was a moment of silence, Taehyung not daring to move closer until she invited him inside.
"Okay." She gave a nod, stepping back and holding open the door as Taehyung finally stepped over the threshold.
"Thought you were spending time with the guys tonight, what brings you here?" There was a soft click as the door closed.
"I was with them but then left to come here."
Y/N furrowed her brow, teeth worrying at that delicious bottom lip.
"You didn't need to do that Taehyung, you haven't seen them in weeks."
"I know." He nodded, watching as she padded through to the kitchen. "I've been with them for hours though plus taking them out for breakfast tomorrow." He trailed behind her, eyes falling across tempting curves.
"You want a drink? Something to eat?" Y/N asked, fingers nervously tapping against the refrigerator door.
"I want to dance." Taehyung suddenly blurted out, pink dusting his ears at how ridiculous it probably sounded.
Y/N cocked a brow, intrigued. "You want to dance? You came all this way to dance?" She chuckled, heart pounding.
She missed the feel of his fingers against her body, desperately aching for it.
"I know it sounds crazy, I totally understand if you say no but we had a list." Taehyung flinched, embarrassment reaching new heights. "Ugh, I'm not explaining this right."
"Taehyung slow down okay, just take a breath and tell me what you're talking about." She smiled, soft and reassuring.
"My brother.....the two of us made a list a few weeks before he died. You see, he never got to experience what it was like to fall in love but he talked about it quite often during his last few months. It was something we did to take his mind off everything that was happening, pass the time. His list was everything he wanted to do with the woman or man that somehow made him start to fall, my list was everything I didn't want. I was struggling still to come to terms with his illness, the fact he wasn't going to survive and I was angry at the world. I didn't believe in love back then, didn't believe it was worth it when everything you love just dies anyway. I still...." He paused, fumbling in his back pocket before pulling out a piece of paper. "I still keep it with me, promised myself to never let anyone close; never do these things because the moment I do....I'm letting someone in....letting myself start to fall."
Y/N felt her heart race, cheeks burning as she watched the adorable confession take place.
"Number seven on my list....never tell her she's adorable."
"Why? Why never tell her that?" Y/N whispered, fingers tightening their grip around the refrigerator door.
Taehyung met her curious gaze, fingers trembling slightly.
"It means something, something more."
"I don't understand Taehyung, what do you mean something more?"
"Most men call a woman beautiful, sexy, hot and it's nothing special not really...at least not to me but to call a woman adorable, to see that slightly dorky maybe less sexy side of her and still be enamoured by it...that means something. I can't explain it but that's my interpretation, always has been and I broke rule seven, I called you adorable, you're so adorable it takes all my restraint to not do a total Tom Cruise and jump on my couch yelling it out for all to hear."
Y/N chuckled, heart skipping a few beats from the admission.
She didn't know what was happening but she wasn't about to stop him, she found herself wanting to know more....wanting to know everything.
"Number twelve on my list, never take her on stupidly romantic dates. I broke that one yesterday, was definitely ridiculously romantic."
"You've never done romantic dates before?"
Taehyung shook his head, admitting to going on dates but never anything romantic. "Always boring, typically expected dates. It was how I protected myself after losing Jin, didn't want to ever love someone only to lose them."
Her heart ached for him; the pain he suffered losing his brother had left him vulnerable and exposed.
At the start of this she believed he was the one helping her to get over the anxiety and doubt; the one helping her to accept and love herself again but it now it seems they aren't so different after all.
Nothing is ever crystal clear, there's never anything as simple as black and white.
Life is like a jigsaw, you never start with all the pieces and sometimes they just don't fit no matter how much you will it.
Y/N never noticed the pain Taehyung was hiding but now it was coming to her in bits and pieces, slowly but surely.
She needed someone to help her love herself again.
He needed someone to help him love again.
The missing pieces from her puzzle fit his and his in turn did the same but that didn't mean it was going to be easy, she knew for sure these pieces would be stubborn and only with time and a gentle hand would they finally slot into place.
"You said you wanted to dance, what number was that on your list?"
Taehyung simply stared, not expecting that would be her response.
He was expecting she would maybe laugh, call him crazy and send him home but then this was Y/N....this was his Siren and she wasn't like the rest, at least not to him.
"You're not laughing at me." He breathed out, head tilting to the side; dark eyes curious as cerulean hair fell across furrowed brows.
"Never, not with things like this Taehyung so tell me....please tell me what number dancing was."
His tongue darted out to wet his lips; a nervous tick. "Twenty, never dance with her....never do the dip thing."
"Never do the dip thing?" She smirked, Taehyung narrowed his eyes and she muttered a sorry. "Not laughing." She added "Just finding this adorable, want to know what the dip thing is." Fingers release the refrigerator door, eyes gentle and urging him to continue.
"You know the dip thing, it's when the guy holds the girl and..." he pauses, motions with his hands and she suddenly gets it.
"Yeah I know what you mean, didn't think a guy like you would want to dip a girl." It sounds dirty and she cringes, shoots him an apologetic smile. "You know what I mean."
He does.
"Hey, a guy can be romantic you know. I like to think I possess that duality, well hope I do at least."
Y/N quickly jumps to agree with him on that, he certainly does. Kim Taehyung can be effortlessly sexy one minute then adorably cute the next, it sometimes gave her whiplash.
"So why me?" She finally asks, not quite believing her luck.
"I don't know yet, guess you could say I've started to fall and don't want to stop yet but it won't be easy."
"Nothing worth it ever is." She responds, his heart melts.
Y/N takes a tentative step closer, pleading with her heart to stop racing so relentlessly.
Taehyung took a huge step with her tonight, she wants to take one too.
"Taehyung you're sweating." She chuckles, noticing the way his shirt clings.
"I'm sorry, didn't expect to be so nervous about revealing this to you."
He desperately wants to hold her but not when his shirt is soaked through with sweat like this, he frowns and she notices.
She nods, fingers lacing with his. "Come on."
Taehyung follows, cursing his nerves.
"You need to learn to love again, let people in." She turns to face him and Taehyung's breath hitches.
She's so beautiful.
Moonlight filtering through the drapes; exposed skin caressed with a beautiful monochromatic light.
Suddenly he feels fingers brushing over the fabric of his shirt.
"What are you doing?" He questions, blood rushing south as she slowly pops open the buttons of his shirt one by one.
She reminds him that he's sweating, shirt drenched for which he mumbles an apology.
"Don't be sorry, just want you to feel comfortable Tae."
He nods, desperately wanting to shed the soiled fabric.
"We're not that different Tae, you need to open up and learn to love again." Y/N pauses, soft fingers pushing Taehyung's shirt back and over his broad shoulders.
They both swallow, hearts racing as the fabric drops to the floor.
"You're so beautiful Taehyung." She whispers, fingers brushing gently over his arms.
"Aren't we going to dance?" His voice cracks, nerves getting the best of him.
"Yeah we're going to dance." She breathes out, fingers toying with the hem of her shirt before finally she pulls it over her head.
Taehyung groans, hooded eyes falling across exposed skin and beautiful curves.
"What are you doing?" He questions, hoping she doesn't think he expects anything from her tonight....he didn't come for that.
"I need to learn to love myself, be comfortable in my own skin again so.....this is me trying and besides couldn't leave you as the only one shirtless." She smirks and he can't help but laugh, lips forming that adorable rectangle shape which makes her so unbelievably weak.
The moment music starts to softly filter through the small apartment the two step closer.
"Can I touch you?" He whispers, lips brushing against her forehead.
"Yeah, you can touch me Taehyung." She responds, right hand coming to rest gently across his chest as the left wraps around his neck to play with the soft strands of cerulean.
"Will you help me with the rest of the list?" He breathes out, long fingers running down her spine as he pulls her flush against him.
"So long as you finish my tattoo." She teases and he nods, of course he'll finish it.
The two move slowly, fingers caressing exposed skin as foreheads meet.
"I'm scared." He admits.
"Me too." She responds.
Their eyes meet, cautious but willing.....willing to fall.
Then he dips.
