Return of the Century

New Orleans, Present Day.

Something was coming I could feel it.

A smirk spread across my lips as I sipped on my glass of whiskey, staring into the flames that burned in my fireplace.

What it was I didn't know, but knew it would be big. Overnight the energy in New Orleans had shifted dramatically and I would be lying if I said I wasn't excited to find out what had caused this dramatic effect.

This shift in energy had been enough to keep me away all night and into the early hours of the morning.

I put my glass down on the coffee table when I heard my front gate creek, I sighed knowing there was only one person would dare disturb me at this ungodly hour. I huffed getting up from my very comfortable position on my grey velvet sofa to answer the front door.

I opened my front door before he even knocked, only to be greeted with the poster child for anguish. Gone was his usual cocky arrogance and beaming smile, it instead had been replaced with frown lines and a touch of paranoia, how intriguing.

"Well, well what do we have here? The King of New Orleans knocking at my door at four-am this better be good Marcellus" I said keeping my face neutral.

"Can I come in?" Marcel asked already making his way through my front door and into my parlour.

"Sure, make your-self at home" I sarcastically replied as I shut the door behind him, I followed Marcel into my living area making a b-line to the liquor cabinet, pouring myself a fresh glass of whiskey and another for Marcel.

"Here looks like you need it" I told him handing him the extra glass, as I started to sip mine.

"Thanks" he replied chugging down the amber liquid, before helping himself to more, making me raise an eyebrow.

"Congratulations Marcellus you've peaked my interest. Now tell me what's so important, that you had to disturb my peace so early in the morning" I questioned looking at my grandfather clock which read four-ten-am.

"There're back" he whispered.

"I'm afraid you'll have to be more specific Marcel, who's back?" I sighed sitting down.

"Klaus .... And Elijah" he stated looking straight at me.

My undead heart stopped.

"I'm sure Rebekah isn't far behind" he continued.

My cool, uncaring façade broke his face coming to the forefront of my mind, my heart ached just hearing his name, a name which hadn't been said aloud in decades, not in my presence anyway.

"Giselle, you okay?" Marcel questioned making remember I wasn't alone in my home and just like a light switch my signature unemotional, uncaring expression retuned.

"So, what brings our old friends back to the quarter?" I wondered.

"Apparently, Klaus was lured here by the witches. He was looking for Jane-Anne Deveraux wanted to talk to her, I being a good host pointed him in the right direction" he explained his smirk returning.

"Which means you killed her" I deadpanned.

"What do you think?"

"Did you at least find out what the witches wanted with Klaus?"

"Jane-Anne didn't say" he mumbled into his glass avoiding eye contact, reminding me of when he used to get scolded as a young boy.

"You just had to put a show on for Klaus didn't you, when instead you should have brought her to me" I snapped.

"It was a mercy kill, compared to what you would have done to her" he shot back.

"But unlike you I would have gotten answers, then we wouldn't be sitting here wondering why the witches who you stopped from doing magic lured a couple of originals back to town" I shouted glaring at the younger vampire.

"Look I admit, I didn't think my decision through but I couldn't have Jane-Anne telling Klaus about Davina. You and I both know she wants Davina so she can get Monique back, why she had to bring Klaus into it, is what we don't know".

"I hate witches but I despise a desperate one more" I hummed.

A few months ago, I wouldn't have cared that Klaus was back in New Orleans sniffing around, but now I had Davina to worry about the little harvest girl had gotten under my skin. I couldn't let Klaus near her, he had always been attracted to power exploiting it in the process and Davina was as powerful as they came.

"He will find out about her Marcel, I'm sure Klaus is already wondering how your controlling the witches. From what I remember Klaus is like a dog with a bone when he gets going and I'm sure that hasn't changed" I spoke rubbing my temples.

"I know he'll find out eventually but for now I'm going to keep her a secret as long, as possible".

"I give it a week before Klaus finds her, and that's being generous" I scoffed.

"Well I've been doing a good job at keeping her a secret so far".

"So far, being the key words Marcellus".

"He's a hybrid now, broke his curse a few years back" Marcel informed me making me smile, I was happy for my old friend.

"He bit Thierry because I wouldn't tell him how I had control of the witches".

"I never liked him anyway, I don't trust a vampire who sleeps with a New Orleans witch" I was of course talking about Thierry's relationship with Katie.

"You didn't have a problem when you were sharing Elijah's bed back in the day" Marcel threw at me, making me glare at him.

"Careful Marcel, you know I have no problem hurting you" I spat through gritted teeth.

"Thierry is fine, turns out Klaus blood cures a werewolf bite. So, we made a little deal he'd cure Thierry and give me a little something to keep my mind at ease, in return Klaus can stay in New Orleans as long as he wants" Marcel smirked his confident cocky attitude returning.

"And what could Klaus possibly give you, to make you feel at ease" I inquired.

"Elijah. Daggered in a box. Don't worry Davina is keeping him safe" I felt my blood boil with rage, Marcel was trying to push my buttons and get a reaction out of me, I didn't like it.

"I know what you're doing Marcellus ... it won't work" I calmly told him as I stood up from my seat. I walked slowly around the room coming to a stop behind the armchair he was seated in.

"Your trying to see who's side I'm on aren't you" I smirked placing my left hand on his shoulder, making him sit up straight and take a painful breath in.

"You feel that? It's your lungs closing up ... now your hearts failing ... your brain will soon shut down" I explained as my magic wreaked havoc on his body, Marcel trembled as he tried to break free of my hold, but his struggle was useless.

I counted to twenty, before blinking my eyes and breaking my hold on him. Marcel took panicked breaths, as his body started to heal itself, I walked back to my liquor cabinet and pulled out a blood bag handing it to the now weak vampire.

"I'm on nobody's side but my own, I always have been Marcellus. I owe you and them nothing. Davina is family, distant family but family none the less. She's the last human Claire witch, I wouldn't have wasted the past few months teaching her magic and how to control it, if I wanted her to be slaughtered or used by Niklaus Mikaelson" I stated as he gulped down the blood bag.

"I just had to know" Marcel explained.

"Try asking next time" I snapped.

"I'm sorry Giselle" he apologised.

"Just remember next time I won't go so easy on you" I smiled making Marcellus swallow hard.

"I got to go, I'll keep you updated" he replied standing up.

"You do that" I smirked as he made his way to my front door.

"Oh, Marcel, don't mention me to our dear old friends, I'd like to surprise them" I called making him chuckle as he closed my front door behind him.

A Century after running from a burning New Orleans, the Mikaelsons were back but why, that's what I was planning to find out.

I had mixed feelings about their return and I wasn't ready to try and sort through those emotions just yet, what I did know was the quarter would never be the same again.

I wandered through my large house until I came to my favourite room, my craft room, as I had renamed it a few decades ago. The room itself hadn't changed since I had converted it from a bedroom over centuries ago.

The walls were still lined with grimoires and other magical texts, I had collected over the years. Herbs, weapons and other magical miscellaneous things littered the room, along with a large table in the centre of the room.

Over the years, the room had become smaller looking due to everything that was packed into it, what could I say I was a magical hoarder.

I walked to the far side of the room and reached up to pull a small wooden box off one of the shelves. The box was dusty as I hadn't needed what was in it, in a very long time.

I took the small box out and opened it up to reveal three vials of blood, that had been delicately placed inside, each with a faded, yellowing label. I placed the box carefully on my table, then grabbed a rolled-up map of New Orleans from a decorative bucket in the corner of the room, laying it flat out on the table.

I removed the first vial which was labelled Niklaus and poured it onto the map.

I did the same with the second this one labelled Rebekah.

Then finally the third, Elijah.

"Sequitur et Revelamini, Sequitur et Revelamini. Sequitur et Revelamini" I chanted over and over making the blood move across the map, I closed my eyes repeating the words louder, as the candles around me lit up the room.

My usual black veins and back eyes appeared as I did the powerful spell, then the candles blew out meaning the spell was finished.

Elijahs had moved to Saint Anne's church which was where Marcel told me he was.

Rebekah's moved to the edge of the map this meant she was on her way otherwise the blood would have flew off the map altogether.

Niklaus was the most intriguing, his blood had moved to the old Governor's plantation, were Marcel had been a slave in his youth. Of all the places he could stay the old plantation would have been the last place anyone would expect the Mikaelsons to stay, maybe Klaus secret was bigger than I thought.

I decided it was best to keep this information to myself, after all things were getting a bit dull around here anyway.
