Chapter Five - Immunity and Ability

Hi! Don't worry about the title, it really describes stuff. Enjoy!

---------------

Astoria sat in the cold dark cellar with Draco, Esme and Jake sitting at the other side. She was hungry, but she refused to drink from the children or her friend. But Draco couldn't bear watching his friend starve to death, even if she had killed his parents. He didn't know if he would be able to handle watching her die like that.

Astoria looked sickly, even if she was immortal. The way stringy hair fell over her tired and bony face gave her the appearance of age, when in fact, she was only sixteen. All of her was bony actually. She looked as though she was an anorexic teen, still refusing to eat. Her eyes weren't as bright as they had once been, and the dark circles underneath weighed heavily on her features.

"Ast," Draco started cautiously, "you need to eat."

"No!" Astoria exclaimed, voice raspy, "I'm not eating anyone!"

"He's right," Jake chimed in, "if you don't eat you'll die."

"Then I'll die."

The three mundanes looked at her sympathetically, but Draco got up and walked towards her. He kneeled down beside her, wrapping an arm around her and resting his chin on her head. Astoria closed her eyes and relaxed into the embrace. But Draco had a knife. He sliced a small cut into his right arm and held it to her mouth.

"No," she fought the urge to bite his hand off.

"Ast, yes," he retorted, "You need to feed."

He pressed his arm to her lips and once the blood made contact, she couldn't stop herself. She bit into his arm as gently as she could, attempting not to rupture any important arteries or drink him dry. Once she had gotten a few sips - or enough to keep her alive - she pulled away. She wiped the blood off her face and Draco wrapped some cloth around his arm.

Astoria's skin cleared up very quickly, it was still paler than usual, but that was usual now that she was a vampire. Her eyes brightened slightly and the shine in her hair returned. She no longer looked bony and lifeless, but was still skinnier than most would call normal. The bags under her eyes lightened, but didn't leave fully. She'd have to drink more blood to look normal again - or as normal as she could with being undead.

There were loud footsteps and the breath of the three mundanes hitched. The lock clicked and the door screeched open, revealing someone Astoria and Draco recognised, but hadn't expected to see. Theodore Nott. He scanned the room before his gaze landed on Draco. He stalked towards the blonde and pulled him up to his feet.

"Cedric wants to see you," he claimed.

"Well I don't want to see him," Draco remarked.

"It would do you well to obey him."

Theodore glanced at the three others in the room with a warning glare. Draco grudgingly followed Theodore out of the cellar and was directed to the foyer of the estate. There, they met two of Cedric's goons and Theodore whispered something to them before leaving. The two grinned and grabbed onto either side of Draco, leading him up a flight of stairs.

Draco didn't recognise the area. The walked down corridor after corridor lined with doors leading into peoples rooms. Draco noticed some were vacant and that there were quite a few, leading to a chill going down his spine. They eventually reached the east wing tower and climbed up more stairs until they reached two massive doors leading to what Draco presumed to be Cedric's room.

They knocked on the door and it swung open to show a large room, decorated with the colours of black and a baby blue. The walls were mostly plain apart from the one opposite the door with a wallpaper looking to be from the Victorian era. On that same wall was a brick fireplace, with seats, a rug and a table to form a seating area.

On one side of the room there was a king sized bed with a canopy, the same baby blue and black as linen. On the other side, there were large bookcases and a table with chairs to form a mini library. There were two doors in the room as well, most likely leading to an en suite and a closet. The floor that Draco was soon thrown onto was made of a dark oak, but didn't make the room look weird in any way.

Cedric's servants left, shutting the door behind themselves and locking them. Draco's heart began to race, am I going to die? But Astoria would never drink or feed if I died. Thoughts similar to those swirled through his head until he felt a hand land on his shoulder. He turned his head slowly to meet the eyes of Cedric Diggory. Cedric's eyes bore into his and his pupils contracted slightly.

"Don't scream," he cooed, "This isn't going to hurt. Calm down."

Draco was confused by this. How can I calm down when this guy's looking at me like that!?

Cedric's expression shifted when Draco didn't calm down.

"I told you to calm down," he said puzzled, "why aren't you?"

"Maybe because I'm talking to a vampire that could kill me at any moment!" Draco exclaimed.

"You should be calming down, unless..." Cedric trailed off, "you're immune to compulsion."

"I'm immune to what now?"

"That's fine, you can scream all you want."

"Why would I be -"

Draco was interrupted when Cedric bit into his neck, forcing him to let out a disgruntled gasp. Cedric couldn't've known it was Draco's 'sweet spot' as Daphne referred to it, but he somehow managed to bite right on target. Draco was shocked by something else too though. Cedric was actually gentler than Harry.

But the next thing Draco knew he was being picked up and then thrown back down. Draco held his breath, anticipating the hard, cold floor, but instead landed on something soft. He lifted his head up to see he had landed on the bed instead of the floor. How did we get over here so quickly!? Draco was sprawled out on the baby blue linen and Cedric climbed over the top of him, biting back down on his neck.

Draco couldn't contain it anymore, he let out a soft moan. Cedric pulled Draco's knees apart and moved his legs into the gap. Cedric's lips moved from the bite to Draco's clavicle where he bit once more. He used one hand to restrain Draco's, and the other was caressing him. Fangs met bone and Draco let out a second soft moan.

Cedric climbed off the top of him. He had finished his meal.

"I must say I didn't expect your blood to be so toxic," he licked his lips.

"What's compulsion?" Draco asked, too dizzy to get up.

"It's a vampire thing. You know what mind control is right? Or, the imperious curse I guess?"

"Yeah...?"

"It's similar to that in a sense. The contraction and dilation of our pupils mean we're using it. I don't know how exactly it works but you feel a strange urge to do exactly as they tell you. You're unable to disobey. But you, you're immune."

"And what exactly does that mean?"

"It means what it means. You can resist."

Draco narrowed his eyes at the vampire.

"Listen, you don't have to believe me, but you'll see soon enough that the other two can't disobey when compulsion is used."

"How did you know what I was thinking before?"

"Simple, Sire's get all the skills mundanes believe in. The reading of minds, the tough skin, the turning into a bat."

Draco raised an eyebrow, "The tough skin?"

"It's a lot harder to injure a Sire than a normal vampire. But there are other perks. The sunlight immunity, we don't go berserk at the sight of blood, we can even drink animal blood if we really wanted to."

"What do you mean by that? You can't normally?"

"No. There's a reason we tend to hunt humans, and that reason is that animal blood could kill us."

"That necklace you took from Potter, what was it?"

"So many questions that I really don't feel like answering. He made a special stone, and that's all I'm saying."

The next thing Draco knew he was being thrown onto a hard stone floor. He sat up and saw that he was back in the cellar. So vampire's are speedy, he thought, good to know. Astoria had her knees to her chest and the two children were hiding in the furthest corner. Cedric smirked and grabbed Astoria by the arm, taking her out of the cellar and locking the door in a blur.

"Why is he doing this?" Esme asked shakily.

"I don't know."

Harry was sitting in his room and he had locked the door. He could smell it, he could smell the blood in the cellar, but he refused to let himself lose control. He could hear muffled voices coming from the east wing tower, but it was too far away for him to hear it clearly. A few minutes later the sent moved. Whoever was bleeding was moving.

He pressed himself up against the wall, trying to get away from the smell, but it was getting closer. He tried with all his might to not break the door down and kill whoever was walking past. He succeeded. Even as it walked right past his door he managed to not lose it. He spent the next half hour waiting in his room, the smell of blood still filling his nostrils.

When it walked past his door again the smell had intensified to such a point Harry could taste it. Malfoy.

Harry could hear Draco's heart, smell Draco's blood, sense Draco's panic, but the smell was back in the cellar after only a second. He could still smell, hear, taste and sense the boy as though he were sitting directly next to him. He couldn't stop himself. He bolted out of the room but held himself close to the wall, trying not to hurt someone.

"Well, well, well," came the sinister chuckle of Cedric, "someone's having trouble fighting the blood lust."

Harry grunted.

"Go ahead, I won't stop you. Feed Harry, feed. You're going to need the blood to survive."

"Well maybe -" he stopped when he tasted the blood.

"You can taste it can't you? Well I must say you're the vampire with the least control out of everyone here."

Harry could only think about the blood.

"Get off the wall, you look ridiculous."

Harry didn't move. Cedric rolled his eyes before pulling Harry off the wall himself. Harry tensed up, the blood, he thought, why is it so strong? Am I crazy? Cedric smirked before letting go of Harry, gently nudging him towards possibly killing someone.

"Do keep Draco alive though," Cedric said, "I do need him alive. And whatever you do, don't feed him your blood."

Cedric turned to walk away, and as Harry opened his mouth to reply the taste once again filled his mouth. His taste buds tingled, his eyes turned red, his teeth turned to fangs, and he was gone. The next thing he knew a girl was screaming and he had blood dripping from his teeth.

"Stop!" A boy yelled, "Leave him alone! He's already lost too much blood!"

"Please!" The girl screamed, "Just look at him!"

Harry's head turned and he was facing the two screaming children. He stalked towards them with one thing on his mind: Blood. The rest was a blur to Harry. He didn't know what happened after he walked towards the children, but when he finally came to his senses they were shaking and bleeding. Harry had done his research and knew that vampire blood would heal them, but the exchange of blood was what turned him. He left.

Pansy, Blaise, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, Luna and Daphne were all back at Hogwarts worried out of their minds. Two weeks, two weeks and no one knew anything! Rita Skeeter found out and of course she made an article about it.

THE BOY WHO LIVED HAS VANISHED

Rita Skeeter

Harry Potter - the boy who lived and our saviour - was reported missing only a few days ago. He had been taken by a woman claiming to be a Ministry Official, working under Kingsley Shacklebolt's orders. The muggle town near where he was staying claimed that they saw a boy behaving oddly in the days leading to Harry's disappearance. Could this have been the reason for it?

"Honestly, he's all they're talking about!" Blaise exclaimed, throwing the newspaper down, "What about Dray and Ast!?"

"They aren't even mentioning Lucius and Narcissa's death's," Daphne added.

"As usual, the Gryffindors get all the spotlight," Pansy started, "But hey, it's not like two other's went missing and two dead bodies are rotting."

"Why are you guys reading it if it's annoying you so much?" Theodore asked.

"Well Nott, we're hoping that there's some new on how our friends are doing!"

The three Slytherins continued to talk about how aggravating it all was. Meanwhile, at the other end of the Great Hall, the Gryffindors were also looking through the Daily Prophet.

"It only talks about Harry?" Hermione raised an eyebrow, "What about Malfoy, Greengrass Junior, Lucius and Narcissa?"

"Is it?" Ginny took the newspaper, "I wonder why that is?"

"Not that this is going to help or anything," Ron said, "But it's probably very suspicious for Harry to go missing and two dead bodies to be found later."

"RONALD!!" Hermione exclaimed, "Are you trying to incriminate Harry!?"

"No, I'm just saying, from an outside point of view it looks very suspicious."

"He's got a point 'Mione," Ginny chimed in.

"No he has not!" Hermione exclaimed, "The Ministry knows Harry would never -"

"Hermione, he has a history of breaking the rules when it suits him."

"No -"

"The car," Ron pointed out, "his aunt, Hogsmeade, every time we've snuck out to save the day, I could go on."

"Okay you're right, but that doesn't mean -"

"Ministry probably wants to keep it all hushed so that they can keep Harry innocent and keep the Malfoy's sinister," Ginny said.

The three Gryffindors continued to talk about why they might exclude the Malfoy's and Astoria from the article. Theodore Nott was one person no one knew they should watch out for, but there was more than one spy at Hogwarts...
