Chapter 94
"Good thing your dad left so he didn't have to see that fumble," Dana sneered.
Lizzie straightened her back, reaching the end of her patience with this girl. "What's your obsession, Dana? Is it because I'm prettier than you?"
"Honestly, I just get a thrill from tormenting crazies." She crinkled her nose. "Maybe you're feeling a little delusional because you're off your meds?"
Lizzie's face fell as she heard her own twin laughing somewhere behind her. She turned to glare at Josie, letting Dana slip away in the process. Josie just shrugged back. Lizzie turned on her heel, storming off to where the rest of the team had gathered.
"Team huddle!" she said angrily, grabbing the whiteboard. "It's time to burn these bitches to the ground. So I'm thinking if instead -"
"That's mine." Josie grabbed the whiteboard from Lizzie's hands, erasing her marks.
Lizzie crossed her arms. "What are you doing?"
"I'm calling an audible of my own."
"For what?"
Josie spun the board, showing them all the word she wrote. Lose. "And I am dead serious, Lizzie."
"But we're almost back in the lead," Kaleb piped up when Lizzie couldn't find the words. "We only got behind by a few points, and no one's been using powers -"
"Yes, you have been! We have to lose! We are going to lose!" Josie burst, eyes practically popping out of her head. "Dad said lose!" She turned to Lizzie, curling her lips back to expose her teeth. "Really want Dad to stop loving you? Keep it up."
"And who made you the boss?" Jade asked, leaning across the bleachers.
A vein popped out in Josie's forehead. "You're not even playing!"
"Look," MG said, shifting in his seat awkwardly. "Whatever it may look like to you, we haven't been using any powers. I gotta agree with Lizzie on this one, Jo."
"Of course you do!" Josie's voice turned into a teary whine. "You always do! Everyone always goes for her!"
Penelope set a hand on her girlfriend's shoulder. "I think you've been outvoted, Jo-Jo."
Josie shrugged her hand off. "This isn't a democracy! No magic and we lose!"
The rest of the team exchanged glances, and then Kaleb stood up, almost like he was going to say something, before he just walked away. The rest of the team followed suit, leaving Josie alone, glaring at Penelope and Jade. She stormed off back to the field, frustrated tears in the corners of her eyes.
