Chapter 89

Lizzie fixed her ponytail for the hundredth time, looking around the circle of Stallions. Hope finding out before her aside, a football game was exactly the kind of thing she’d wanted, and she planned to make the most of it. She would give her dad something to be proud of her for - maybe even prouder than he was of Hope. Nothing was going to keep her from that today, especially not Dana and the other MFHS bullies.
“Everybody know the plan?” she asked. “No magic, but we still kick ass.”
Josie’s head snapped up. “Dad said we need to lose so they don’t get suspicious.”
“No, Dad thought not using magic and losing are equivalent,” Lizzie said. “But Kaleb was being recruited by D1 schools even before he became a vampire. We don’t need our magic. We can do this.”
“Lizzie, I said no.”
Lizzie’s mouth opened in disbelief. “And I said you’re not the boss.”
“Uh-oh,” Kaleb singsonged as everyone stared between the two of them. “Twin fight.”
Lizzie turned from Josie and addressed the rest of the Stallions. “Who’s in?”
MG stuck his hand in the middle overenthusiastically. “I trust you with my life!”
“Ugh, ew.” Lizzie pulled a face. “We’re not even dating anymore.”
“I’m in.” Kaleb dropped his hand on top of MG’s. “No way I’m letting these townies beat us.”
One by one, the rest of the Stallions threw their hands in until there was only one left. Everyone stared at Josie until she rolled her eyes and put her hand on top.
“One, two, three: no magic.”
