Chapter 67

Jade caught Lizzie sitting in her bedroom window, staring blankly out at the darkness outside.
“Hey,” she said, knocking on her open door softly.
Lizzie smiled over her shoulder at her. “Hey.”
Jade closed the door tightly and stepped into the room, taking a deep breath before she started talking. “I know you’ve had a literal day from hell,” she began. “But I’m here to make it a little worse in the sake of best-friendship.”
“I don’t think you could make it worse if you tried.” Lizzie laughed weakly, getting up and meeting her best friend in the middle of the room.
“It’s about your campaign.” Jade swallowed heavily. “I think I know who sabotaged it.”
“Yeah, well, I do know.” Lizzie clasped her hands behind her back. She was acting eerily mellow. Even Jade noticed. “It was Josie. She already told me.”
“She did?”
“Yeah. Right before the gargoyle stuff, so don’t you go thinking I was going to tell you either.”
“And you’re not mad at her?” Jade eyed her strangely.
“I was a little.” Lizzie shrugged. “But she’s my twin. I can’t stay mad at her.” Lizzie put her arms around Jade’s shoulders. “You’re an amazing friend.” She hugged her tighter. “I’m so lucky to have you.”
Jade smiled sadly and wrapped her arms around her friend. "Me too."
