Chapter 18
Jade almost turned around when she didn’t see the blonde siphoner in her room, but she swallowed her pride and knocked on the open door to get Josie’s attention.
“Where’s your sister?”
Josie didn’t look up. “Lizzie’s not here right now.”
“That’s fine.” Jade frowned. She cleared her throat and got ready to push Josie’s buttons. “I’ll wait. I just came to check up on her.”
That caught Josie’s attention, and she looked up sharply. “Why would you need to check up on her?”
“Oh, I don’t know,” Jade said, rolling her eyes. “Maybe because she just lost the Honor Council elections?”
“Have you ever considered that my sister didn’t really care?” Josie shot back.
“She did a lot of prepwork for someone who didn’t care.”
“That’s just how Lizzie is. Binders and more binders. She thinks she wants something, builds her life around it for a while, and then quits when it’s not fun for her anymore. She would’ve gotten bored of the council after the first meeting. She didn’t really want it.”
“Did you just try to witch-splain my best friend to me?” Jade arched a dark eyebrow.
“She’s my twin.”
“That’s funny. I thought twins were supposed to love and support each other.”
Josie looked outraged. “I love Lizzie!”
Jade nodded doubtfully. “You know … I think I’ll just come back later.”
