Chapter 132

“MG!” Hope threw open the doors to his room. He jumped like she’d caught him doing something bad, even though the only thing he had to hide was his math homework. “I need your help,” Hope continued like she hadn’t seen his reaction.

My help?” MG arched his eyebrows and looked to Kaleb’s side of the room. “I mean, yeah. Anything. What do you need?”

“Do you know how to do a head dive?”

MG furrowed his eyebrows at the unfamiliar term. “Is that a thing?”

“It is. It just requires a little … precision.”

MG swallowed. Precision was exactly what he lacked. “Shouldn’t you ask somemone like Kaleb …?”

“Kaleb’s not on our squad, is he?” Hope smiled gently before she tossed the book at him. “Read fast.”

MG read it at top vampire speed as he followed Hope down to the cellars.

“It’s so cool!” he was gushing when Hope let him into the tiny room where the Necromancer waited. “It’s like … like …” MG lost the words when he saw the monster sitting in his cell.

“Hello again,” the Necromancer crooned. “What brings you back, Littlest Mikaelson?”

“Don’t worry about it,” Hope said dismissively. “Just sit back and relax.” She turned to MG. “Not a word of this to Dr. Saltzman.”

“Wait - Dr. Saltzman doesn’t know?” MG asked, his voice getting higher and higher.

“No, and he doesn’t need to know, okay?”

“Going behind the headmaster’s back?” the Necromancer clucked. “This ought to be good.”

“I don’t want to hear it.” Hope snapped back. She took her place behind the monster, and motioned for MG to step in front.

“Hope …” MG said quietly. “Are you sure about this?”

Hope put her hands in position as a response.

The Necromancer laughed. “She’s ready.”
