En el reino de Ninjago vive un peculiar joven príncipe llamado Lloyd, hijo del rey Garmadn y la reina Misako, reyes que lograron que su reino sea próspero y pacifico a lo largo de sus vidas, Lloyd nació con una extraña enfermedad que lo estará debilitando al paso de sus años de vida y muchos creen que no pueda llegar a la edad adulta, pero aun así Lloyd demostró ser un digno príncipe al tener conociendo de todo lo que pasa en su reino, pero inesperadamente su reino es invadido por el ejército de un extraño reino vecino dirigido por su primo Morro, hijo no reclamado por su tío Wu, y en una de las batallas Garmadon es traicionado y asesinado durante la batalla contra Morro y su ejército, y con el reino siendo controlado a hora por las fuerzas de Morro Lloyd con ayuda de su tío logra escapar del reino, y en su camino se encuentra con el misteriosos cazador solitario Kai, quien decide protegerlo y tratar de llevarlo de vuelta al reino de Ninjago para que así Lloyd logre reclamar su trono y reino.
