Chapter III

Taehyung

"Morning, Dr. Kim!" Greeted my assistant, Dr. Sehun, as I made my way into the changing room, gently closing the frosted glass door behind me.

"Morning, Sehun!" I greeted him with a broad smile. "I hope the baby is prepared?" I checked with him before taking off my shirt and hanging it in one of the hooks inside my locker.

"Yes, Dr. Kim. The parents are extremely worried though. Would you like to put in a word to them?" His tone was laced with genuine concern as he proceeded to fix his cap and secure it behind his head.

I slipped on my scrubs and nodded at him.

"I'll do that. You be present with the anesthesiologist. I'll be there in a while," I patted his shoulders and closed my locker.

I walked out of the changing room to meet the parents of the baby once again before the surgery began. The nervous parents sitting outside the Operating Room stood up once they saw me approaching them, and I quickened my steps, reaching them with a few long strides.

"JiHye's eomma and appa, I heard you were worried. So I came to meet you both," I said, taking the baby's father's trembling hands in mine.

"Yes, doctor. We're so worried and scared," said the baby's mother, her voice cracking lightly.

"Please be relaxed, JiHye's eomma. Your baby is in safe hands. You need to trust me first and fully believe that you will soon hold the baby in your arms. I will never let your faith go down," I assured them, holding their cold hands in my steady hands. "Do you trust me?" I asked softly and fixed my gaze on the baby's father and then moved it to the mother.

They both looked at each other briefly, worry evident in their faces, tears ready to spill out.

"Yes. We trust you." The baby's mother said shakily.

I smiled and squeezed their hands gently.

"That is the motivation I need. Your baby will be safe with me, and I will ensure she's back in your embrace as soon as possible. Please stay hopeful and strong, okay?"

They both nodded softly as if my words lit up a small candle of warmth within their worried hearts. I let go of their hands and bowed to them before retreating to the changing room where I changed my footwear and proceeded to the preparation room outside the operating room through the internal doorway.

The theater assistant helped me into my operating suit, gloves, head cover and apron once I scrubbed and sanitized my hands and feet. With the surgical mask and glasses in place, I entered the operation room, where the tiny ten-month old JiHye was laid on the table to be operated on for the mild case of Hirschsprung disease that she was born with.

About three hours later, once the surgery was closed and the baby's vitals were stabilized and she was shifted to the CCU, I stepped out of the operation room and headed straight to the changing room where I discarded the surgical garments and proceeded to take a shower. As I stepped out of the shower and threw open my locker, the door to the changing room clicked open, and my gaze briefly shifted to see who it was.

"Hello, Dr. Kim," the familiar yet repulsive voice of the only female doctor I despised in the entire hospital resounded in the cold and silent changing room.

"Hello, Dr. Hana. If you don't mind, I need to get dressed now. I will meet you later," I let out in an irritated tone while I picked up my clothes from my locker without paying any attention to her presence.

But my body stiffened and my jaw clenched when I heard the door being locked, and the sound of her clacking heels grew closer with each step she took. Securing the towel around my waist a bit tighter, I lifted the shirt to wear it before I could turn around and face her. But she was quicker as I soon felt her cold hand on my waist, stroking my skin delicately and making my skin bristle. I shut my eyes tight and inhaled sharply.

This woman has to know her place.

Placing the shirt back in the locker, I held her hand from moving any further and pushed it away from my body. The loss of contact triggered her as she pushed her front to my back and breathed on my neck.

"Dr. Kim…" Dr. Hana's voice sounded airy. "I can't handle your hotness. Do you know it's a sin to look so handsome?" She whispered in a malicious tone and trailed her fingernail from the back of my neck down to my shoulder and arm, circling around the tattoo on my arm.

She then pressed herself forward, causing me to collide with the locker in front of me.

"Dr. Hana, stop it. I'm a married man, and you shouldn't be doing this," I spoke through gritted teeth and held her wrists that were now snaking around my waist from behind, and her fingertip tracing down the thin line of hair beneath my navel.

If she weren't the Chairman's daughter, I would've slapped the life out of her stupid face. Yet, I wouldn't still mind doing it if she stepped out of her line.

Holding her wrists tight in my hands, I pushed her forcefully causing her to stumble back as I heard from her unsteady shoe sounds behind me. I quickly slid my arms inside the sleeves of my shirt and turned around while buttoning it up.

"Dr. Hana, you hold stakes only over this hospital, and not over the employees here. And understand something," I stepped closer and whispered close to her ear,

"Dr. Amanda... I mean, Mrs. Kim is the only privileged woman who's allowed to touch me whichever way she desires to," I leaned back with a smirk and smoothed the fabric of the shirt over my chest.

While I began folding up my sleeves, Dr. Hana stood there with a flushed face that had embarrassment plastered all over it.

And the fact that Amanda marked her territory without even being present in the room made her furious. Honestly, this wasn't even the first time I tried to push away Dr. Hana, yet she keeps trying shamelessly.

Mandy doesn't know about her advances, and I don't think I need to tell her yet and trigger her possessive side.

"The door is that way," I pointed to the door with my chin and raised eyebrows, and Dr. Hana huffed angrily as she stomped her way out of the changing room, throwing the door open and slamming it shut behind her.

Scrunching my eyes and nose at the loud noise, I shook my head and got dressed before leaving the room myself. The fact that the changing room had no surveillance cameras for preserving the dignity and privacy of the doctors was both good and bad in a way.

Just as I was about to head towards the elevator to pick up my wife for lunch, my phone buzzed with an incoming call from Jimin, and my lips automatically curled up into a broad smile when I saw his contact image that was a picture of the two of us taken on the very first day we met about nine years ago. It was the same day that I met 'Ramen' Amanda and our other close friend Jungkook.

༺───※ ·❆· ※───༻

The moment I entered the classroom, I heard a few gasps and cooing sounds from some girls and guys. I had grown immune to those sounds at that point.

Among all the silky straight, flat-haired girls and guys, there was this amazingly unique curly-haired girl seated in the third row. Even from a distance, I could see that her eyes were big and bright and her honey skin stood out beautifully. I quickly evaluated where my seat would be, and, much to my pleassnt surprise and excitement, it was right next to curly!

Fixing my gaze on her, I jogged up to her desk—our desk. Her eyes slowly trailed up my body and finally met my eyes. Oh, damn! The butterflies that I felt from the inside...

There was something about her eyes that made me not want to look away, and she raised her cute eyebrows. I regretted having not learned her name from the name list pinned outside. I could've called her out by her name and struck a conversation with her. Silly me! I saw only my name.

"Amanda." she shook my hand.

'Ramen Amanda. Yes. I love that name!!'

As she sat beside me, I felt her gaze on me. I felt conscious yet nervous, and I couldn't stop tapping the pen on the desk, which was one of my subconscious nervous tics.

I leaned back in my seat, still contemplating how to initiate a conversation with her. Habitually, I spread my legs and my thigh pressed against hers, causing a shiver roll up my spine.

'Good. I like it. I'll sit this way.'

My hand never stopped tapping the pen, and then, finally, I decided to talk to her. Maybe I'll ask her where she's from? She's not Korean so that'll be a good starting point.

Just when I wanted to open my mouth, she began,

"Taeh-" and was immediately interrupted by the professor.

'Damnit! He ruined it.'

Almost thirty minutes had passed and God! Would this professor ever shut up? He seemed to be talking non-stop while I was contemplating how to throw him out of the window.

'Sure, I can learn without him.'

I side-glanced at Amanda who was completely immersed into what he was jabbering. She rested her jaw on her upturned palm, and I studied her features intently. Her eyes were big, like really big and so damn attractive, and she had long, slender, manicured fingers. Her hair was the key feature though, and, thanks to the curls, she looked so much hotter than she already was.

A few more minutes passed, and the professor left the classroom. We were asked to assemble at the auditorium for a formal introduction to the student council and other unwanted things which I was in no mood for. I only felt like flirting with Amanda.

She got up to leave, and I was stunned seeing her perfect figure. She was proportionate in the perfect way and curvaceous wherever it mattered.

"Are you not coming?" She asked me.

And I literally had to suppress all my dirty thoughts and respond to her with a feigned innocent smile as I stood up from my seat, too.

I walked beside her to the auditorium, and, as we descended the gallery steps, I noticed that she was a lot taller than all the other girls I had ever met.

'Talk to her now!'

"So, Amanda," I called her, and she turned to look at me as we kept walking. Most of the students from our class had already left, and we were both just then exiting our classroom.

"Yeah?" She smiled.

"Are you on an exchange program?" I asked her the one question that was nagging my mind.

'One of the many other questions, including if I could touch her hair.'

She chuckled softly as we took slow steps towards the auditorium.

"Nope. My mother works for the Consulate. We've been living here since when I was three years old," she answered with a cute smile.

'Three-year-old Ramen Amanda must have looked like a doll.'

The soft breeze tried to mess her curls, but they wouldn't budge because she had styled them so well.

"I get it.." I nodded and she hummed softly in response as we kept walking.

"Uhm... so I'm curious about something. I-"

"My hair?" She interrupted me.

'Wow... she must be so used to everyone asking her this.'

I nodded with a small sheepish smile.

She giggled, "Yeah... it's real. Not fake.”

"Looks fabulous and suits you so well," I confessed.

"Thank you, Taehyung," she said with a warm smile, a faint hint of blush appearing on her cheeks.

We soon arrived at the auditorium, and, once I opened the doors, the loud chatters of all the students gathered there made me flinch a little. Almost all the seats were filled up already, and I tried to locate two vacant seats next to each other, but there was none. So, Amanda sauntered to a vacant seat on the left, and I took a seat on my right, close to the exit door. I fixed my gaze on her as she settled down on a seat next to a dark-haired guy.

"Hey... Hi. Are you a fresher, too?" Asked a voice next to me.

I turned around and saw the owner of the unique melodic voice. To my right was a guy with a cute eye smile and dazzling skin.

"Yeah. Kim Taehyung," I smiled, extending my hand to him.

"Nice to meet you. I'm Park Jimin," he smiled again.

His smile didn't seem to fade at all, and I couldn't help but reflect his smile like a mirror. We spoke of random things, and I actually befriended him in less than ten minutes.

'Wow! So that makes it two today. I'm not really an extrovert, but, at times like these, I'm inclined to believe that I might actually be an extrovert.'

A little while later, I shifted my gaze to Amanda and saw that she was talking to the guy seated next to her. He had pitch black hair and looked to be Korean from behind. Amanda, of course, with that ramen hair could easily be spotted anywhere.

Soon, the student council introductions were done, and then there was some other boring stuff, none of which entered my ears. Besides, Jimin was constantly joking, making fun of the guys on stage and giggling about everything, and his aura was so contagious that I was laughing along, paying attention to nothing.

However, one thing that caught my attention was the announcement about the student orientation that was coming up in a month. It was planned to happen at a beach resort outside of Seoul, and all the freshers along with immediate seniors would be attending it. We all would stay at the resort and relax and get to know each other over two days.

'I like that!'

"Student orientation sounds so much fun. Have you made any other friends yet?" Jimin asked me curiously.

I nodded,

"Yeah. I made friends with my desk-mate, Amanda. And you?"

"I haven't yet. You're my first friend in college. I'm in batch C. Let's catch up often, okay?" He asked and flashed his attractive eye smile.

"Yeah, buddy. Let's catch up," I smiled and patted his shoulder before making my way out of the auditorium.

Once outside, I noticed that Amanda was walking along with the dark-haired boy that she was seated next to during the student council introduction. I jogged up to her and moved to her right, tapping her left shoulder. She turned around to her left and then her right while her fabulous curls spun around.

"Hey, Taehyung!" She giggled once her eyes landed on me.

"Hey!" I smiled and walked by her side, keeping my hands deep inside the pockets of my jeans.

The dark-haired boy walked on her other side and shot curious glances at me and her.

"You made a new friend?" I asked Amanda as my gaze floated from her to the boy next to her.

He was as tall as me and had a boyish charm to him. Muscular, with big bambi eyes and an innocent look on his face—it was hard to comprehend if he was introverted or scared of something.

Amanda stopped in her tracks and so did the other guy and me.

"Yeah. Meet Jeon Jungkook," she said, pointing to the boy, and then she pointed to me and told him, "This is Kim Taehyung," she smiled big, her doe-eyes twinkling.

I extended my hand to Jungkook, and he took it after a few seconds to shake it weakly. His hands were cold and stiff.

"Are you feeling cold?" I asked him since his hands were freezing cold. He just shook his head and looked away. The boy avoided eye contact at all costs.

'How did Amanda befriend him? Must be her super power.'

"Let's go," she announced, and we began walking towards our classrooms once again.

"Jungkook is in batch C," Amanda said once we neared our classroom.

"Oh, really? I made a friend in batch C, too. His name is Park Jimin. Jungkook can be friends with him as well. He seems very nice," I nodded at my own conclusion.

Jungkook just nodded softly and bowed to us.

"See you guys later," he smiled awkwardly, leaving me confused as to why he was so withdrawn. Amanda on the other hand smiled broadly and waved to him as he retreated into his classroom. We walked back to our desk and settled down.

"So, are you excited about the student orientation?" I asked her, trying to contain my excitement about the event.

"Yeah, I am. I'm eager to get to know everyone," she nodded and pumped up her curls lightly while I just sat there admiring the way her curls settled around her stunning face and winded down up to her forearm.

'Must be high maintenance.'

A lecture went by uneventfully, and we were asked to collect our books, and later we all went back home. First day at college was amazing, and the best part of it was befriending 'Ramen' Amanda.

She was so attractive! And the next best part of the day was exchanging phone numbers with her.

༺───※ ·❆· ※───༻

I answered Jimin's call. "Yeah, buddy."

"Taehyungieeee! GUESS WHAT? SOOYA SAID YES!" He squealed so loudly at the other end that it almost gave me an ear bleed.

Apparently, the student orientation is an actual thing that happens at Korean Universities.
😁💀

Also, sir, what do you want from us? 🥵
