Chapter 44
Olivia gasped for air as she jumped up from her sleep. She held on tight to her chest, hustling for air. She had had a nightmare, a really scary one. She pulled her hair back just so they didn't have to stick to the beads of sweat on her forehead and wiped the drop of tear that fell from her eyes. How on earth did she wake up so sad and scared? She was sweating even under the air conditioning.
Did she just say air conditioning?
Olivia paused for a while, she needed a second to catch her breath then she slowly turned to the bed. It felt awfully comfortable and was really huge. She looked around the room.
She couldn't recognize it. It was way different from the room she remembered, the room she always slept in. Where was she?
Olivia knew she had to try to calm herself a bit if she really wanted to think about what had happened the night before.
She took deep breaths, trying to stop her heart from racing. Breath after breath, shutting her eyes the whole time till pieces of the night before started finding their way into her memory. She remembered. She remembered walking into the room, she remembered meeting Rafael sick on the floor and cleaning his wound.
She remembered feeding him his medicine and taking him to bed. She also remembered what happened after then.
What happened after then?
She lowered her gaze to her dress hoping her memory wasn't failing her, she just had to make sure nothing else happened besides her cuddling Rafael to sleep just to keep him warm.
Her night dress seemed in tact. Her buttons were perfect, she didn't feel different. She exhaled in relief. She needed a second, a second to get her legs to move again.
What on earth was wrong with her? Why was she feeling that way? Why did she have tears in her eyes? Why did she wake up feeling so sad and empty? Olivia sniffed and then cleaned her eyes again . She had to make sure she was good before she walked out of that door.
Olivia slowly got up from the bed, her legs felt so wobbly but she managed to walk to the edge the bed. She drew in a deep breath then rubbed her arms to warm herself. She looked around.
Of course he had to be better now seeing that his room was back to feeling like a coffin for vampires. How could he stay in a place like that?
It was her first time.
Her first time of actually taking notice of how great his room was. The interiors were top notch. Right from the carved door, to the two seater couch, to the three marbled stairs leading to the king sized bed.
She could see the wardrobe at the far end of the room. It was really huge and covered in glass. She couldn't count all the shoes in it but she knew they were a lot, arranged perfectly in all sorts of colors and leathers. There was a smaller glass paces away from it. That had to be where he kept his ties and his wristwatches, his cufflinks too. He never went anywhere without those if there was one thing she observed about him. There was another wardrobe behind it, that had to be where he kept his clothes.
She wanted to see. That was one of the times her anxiety and mild stubbornness got the best of her. She hurried to the section of the room, being as careful as she could be. The last thing she wanted was for Rafael to catch her snooping through his things.
She had barely gone halfway when she paused. There was something, something she had seen, something that caught her attention. She slowly turned to the plastered wall beside her, too anxious to know what it was.
Pictures.
Olivia held her breath as she looked at all those pictures on the wall. There were tons of them. All of them arranged beautifully in the huge glass hanging on the wall she was looking at.
Pictures of the same people. A woman and a child and then a man too. A man who looked just like him. A happier version of him though. They looked more like family photos.
Was that her? Olivia couldn't help but ask herself.
The woman Benita told her about? His wife?
Olivia exhaled.
The woman in the picture looked like the most beautiful person she had ever seen and she had the most beautiful smile. Not just her, their daughter too. She looked so much like a combination of both her parents.
Olivia's eyes narrowed to a bit to the perfect painting at the edge of the frame. It looked like something a baby would have drawn. Olivia could identify it as a sketch of three people. A man, a woman and a tiny child.
A tiny smile drew itself on her lips. She couldn't help herself. It was really cute. They looked so perfect, so happy, happier than her marriage with Andrew ever was. Why on earth did they have to fight so much?
She drew a deep breath.

Olivia could hear the tiny voices coming from the room in front of her as she walked to it while her new ponytail wig bounced behind her. She made sure she showered and looked pretty even though she didn't know why she did. With very step she took closer to the office, the voices became a bit louder. She could recognize each owners of the voice.
Olivia buried her gaze to the tiny medicine tray in her left hand, and the glass of water in her right hand. She stopped as soon as she got to the door.
Breathe Olivia
She said to herself
All you have to do is give him the medicine and walk away. You don't have to say anything to him. You're doing this for you remember?
Olivia nodded her head in accordance with the voice in her head. She was about to take another step to the door when it opened quickly. Benita walked out with a huge smile on her face. The smile grew even wider the moment she saw Olivia.
The older woman began to remember how she had walked into Rafael's room early that morning with his breakfast but had seen them both in each other's arms, sleeping beautifully and peacefully too. Had she come too early?
She could remember how her heart almost jumped out in joy, how happy she was to see them. She remembered how she slowly walked out of the room just so she didn't have to wake them up. She wished she had taken a picture. She never thought she'd have lived to see that day.
"Olivia." Her smile brightened as soon as she called Olivia's name. Everyone in the room turned to the door. Olivia could see how Rafael slowly raised his head from his coffee mug to stare at her. She was nervous all of a sudden, too nervous. She had no idea why she was suddenly feeling so embarrassed. She couldn't even bring herself to look at him. Why did she even come there?
"Go on in." The old lady stepped away from the entrance so Olivia could have a better chance at walking in with ease. Olivia found her legs leading her into the room.
"Olivia." She noticed the happy look on Tony's face as soon as she walked in further and how Susan glared at her scornfully. She could tell Susan was really surprised to see her, especially with Rafael's drugs.
She heard Rafael's loud sigh the moment she got close enough to the table. She still couldn't look at him but she couldn't help but wonder what he was thinking about.
"Olivia, did you sleep well?" Tony asked her, excitement in his voice
"How wouldn't she?" Rafael cut him up, turning to the files in front of him immediately. "She spent the whole night snoring and throwing her legs about."
Olivia gasped, finally turning to look at him.
"I don't snore." She cut him of "W-what are you talking about?" She said almost in a whisper.
Rafael let out a tiny smile pretending not to hear her. Was he doing it on purpose?
Susan was lost. She kept looking like she had no idea what they were talking about. She slowly turned to Rafael, she could see him trying so hard not to smile.
"Wait a minute." Tony gasped "You both slept together last night?"
"Toge-" Olivia gasped "It's not like that at all."
"Woah," Tony turned to Rafael "You're really something my man."
Rafael looked at him, forcing a huge frown on his face. He picked up a paper, folded it into a ball and hit Tony's head with it
"Just what are you thinking?"
Tony chuckled loud. He was just teasing.
"I can take it from here." Susan stretched quickly to Olivia and grabbed the tray and glass from her. She quickly turned to the table and then kept them on it.
"It looks like someone's jealous." Tony smirked at her. She scoffed and rolled her eyes. Just why would she be jealous?
"What's there to be jealous of?" She asked him with a long frown on her lips. She rolled her eyes. Olivia exhaled and then rubbed her arms together.
"Is there something else you'd like to say?" Susan asked her. She turned to Susan then to the rest of them. They were all staring at her. Olivia forced a chuckle
"Me?" She asked Susan "No o, nothing at all." She smiled and clicked her tongue "I'd just leave you all to do your -"
"Sir Rafael!" They heard a loud yell coming from outside the door, followed by fast footsteps "Sir Rafael!"
Lucy yelled again as she got closer to the opened door. She paused the moment she saw all of them, taking her time to catch her breath.
"Lucy," Benita called her attention "What is it."
Lucy bent over with her hands on her knee. It was really so difficult for her talking and panting at the same time, especially with all those people staring at her.
"Insta- instablog." She managed to tell Benita "Check instablog." She was still breathing so fast. She slowly turned to Olivia and then pointed at her "H-her daughter is there."
Olivia frowned a bit, narrowing her gaze to the girl in front of her.
"She-" Lucy finally managed to stand straight. She handed the phone to Benita "She just got hit by a motorcycle."
"What?" Tony And Rafael got up immediately just as Olivia gasped.
She felt her heart stop for a second just as she hurriedly walked to Benita and snatched the phone from her while the rest took out their phones to check.
Olivia hoped it wasn't true. It couldn't be. She felt her heart stop beating as soon as she looked at the picture of a little girl in a pool of blood on the floor. In as much as she didn't want to think about it, she had a strong feeling it was Grace. She was lying there, lifeless on the ground and what was worse was that Olivia could recognize the houses surrounding the environment. That was the Silver's mansion. It had to be. Tears clouded her eyes immediately.
"Ma Olivia." Lucy yelled just as she noticed how dizzy Olivia was getting. She staggered backwards from all that shock. She felt strength leave her as she dropped the phone immediately right before Tony caught her before she fell.
"H-how," she tried to say "W-why, how could they just stand there-"
"We don't know if she's the one yet." Tony told her. "There's no need to panic for now till we are able to confirm."
Rafael dialed a number on his phone and walked to the window. He was trying to make a call.
Olivia couldn't think straight, she couldn't think of what to do.
"Breathe." Benita grabbed on to her arm "Breathe my child."
How could she? How could she breathe after what she just saw?
"Thank you Oliver." They heard Rafael say as he stepped away from the window. They turned to look at him. He exhaled. "There was really an accident in front of Victoria's house this morning. They said it was a little girl, and she was rushed to Saint Peter's."
He slowly turned to Olivia.
His eyes were so sad.
"It's Grace."
Olivia felt faint. She grabbed on to Tony's arm for support. She suddenly couldn't feel her legs anymore
"Saint Peter's," Benita started "It's not far from here."
Olivia sniffed, managing to get back on her feet. She quickly reached for her phone from the back pocket of her skinny jeans. Everyone watched her bring it out with her trembling hands. She cleaned the tears off her face.
"Uber." Her voice was shaky. Tony exhaled. "I should get an Uber. I should go see for myself." She was breathing fast "I should go see for myself."
She was barely even tapping the screen well with the way her phone was shaking. She was in so much duress. She was frightened and it made her tremble from head to toe.
"Why isn't it working?" She hit her trembling fingers on her phone's screen. "I need to," Her voice broke, she was crying so hard now. "I need to call an Uber." She whispered to herself. She looked so disoriented. She was barely concentrating on anything else. "I have to, " She was breathing so fast. "I need to-"
She felt a cold hand on top of hers quickly. She stopped shaking for a minute as she noticed the gold wristwatch on Rafael's wrist before she raised her head to look at him, tears clouding her eyes again.
"I'd take you." He told her, as calm as he had ever been. Olivia sniffed out loud. She was breaking down in tears and this time she couldn't help it, there it came like a hurricane, tears. She couldn't stop herself anymore. She was breaking out too much, crying and gasping for air at the same time.
Rafael just stood there, numb and still like a stick. He had never seen her that way before. So sacred and vulnerable. She reached on to his sides and pulled as much shirt as each of her hands could carry, still crying as hard as she could.
No one knew what to do, no one knew how to help her. They all felt so sorry for her. Olivia couldn't take it, she couldn't take any more of all the pain she could feel in her chest. She needed help, she needed someone to help her. She just couldn't.
She slowly placed her head on Rafael's chest, crying to her heart's content. Rafael didn't move for a second. He didn't try to stop her from clinging so hard to him. His hands were right there, held up in the air from the moment her head came in contact with his chest.
Everyone looked at them in surprise and pity too but Rafael was the most surprised. Why couldn't he move? Why did his heart start racing all of a sudden? Why was he finding it so hard to think or breathe.
Olivia's loud sob weakened him the more. Rafael exhaled and slowly lowered his hand to her head.
What on earth was he doing?
He had no idea but that wasn't the time to think about it. He slowly held on to her, hugging her gently in his strong arms, his chin above her head.
"It's okay." He whispered to her but she didn't listen. Olivia just wouldn't stop crying. "It's alright." He told her again, hugging her a bit tighter this time around. She was shaking. She needed it, she needed all the hugs she could get.
No one made a move or a sound. They were all moved by what was happening. Tony exhaled and folded his arms.
The room was so quiet. Too sad, too quiet. They knew Olivia needed it. She needed to let it all out and she didn't plan to stop.
She was going to go on and on.
Rafael exhaled. He gently rubbed her back
"It's okay."
