chapter eight

When Rose awoke in the morning, she had a pounding headache and the urge to vomit. She quickly leaped off the bed and towards the bathroom. She could hear a chuckle as she did so but she didn't pay it much mind.

She hurled all of the contents in her stomach into the toilet. When the violent upset of her stomach was over, she washed her mouth out and then shuffled out of the bathroom slowly and sluggishly before lying back in bed on her stomach with her head down.

"That sounded terrible," the blond Viking commented from his side of the bed.

She merely groaned in response which made him chuckle again. Everything from last night was fuzzy but it was there.

"Don't even start," she warned him as she turned onto her back.

"Alright," he agreed with an amused smile before he frowned. "Well, do I, at least, need to worry about you idiotically trying to jump off buildings again?"

She was silent for a moment before she answered honestly, "No."

Her cheeks flushed a bit that she had been that vulnerable with a stranger. Well, she knew of Lukas but he was still a stranger. It made her a bit peeved.

"Why were you even at the party last night?" she asked curiously. "Usually, only models show up."

"Exactly," he smirked.

She peeked at him over the pillows to see that (adorable but she'd never tell him) grin and she rolled her eyes. She knew what he meant. He showed up because he wanted to get laid.

"You're such a guy," she stated in disgust. "I hope you know you are so not getting in my pants."

"Not yet," he promised confidently. "And I don't know why you're so opposed since I already know what's under there when you told me in such detail."

She threw a pillow at him as she remembered she told him about her birthmark, "If you tweet that, I'll murder you."

"You promise?" he smiled cutely just to aggravate her which made her glare daggers at him and he chuckled before he said seriously. "I won't tweet it. That would be totally dumb."

Why would he want to tell the whole world something only he knew about her? Not to mention how intimate the knowledge was. No, he was keeping it all to himself.

Rose started to relax against the bed once he said that. She laid there for a moment before Lukas couldn't help but tease, "I would totally be fine with you tweeting that I have pretty eyes, though."

She threw another pillow at him as she blushed before she got up, "I'm going to my own room."

He chuckled before he scrambled up and in front of her, "Wait, wait. It was just a joke."

"Uh huh," she nodded. "And I'm still leaving."

He gave her cute, hopeful little smile, "Can I have your number?"

         "No."

         "Can I see you again?"

         "No."

He stared at her a bit in aggravation as he bit his lip before he slowly nodded his head like it was a done deal, "I'll see you again."

"Sure," she said sarcastically before moving to the door. "Bye, Lukas."

"Rose," he acknowledged her exit as he said her name ever so softly like a caress while she left.

She left without even looking back and went to her own room. She hoped to God for her own dignity that she wouldn't see Lukas Matsson again but God had other plans. Well, Lukas did.

_____

A week later she was back in New York. She woke up one morning to a missed call from an unknown number. She wasn't sure if it was important or business-related and in her foggy morning brain, she simply called it back. As soon as she heard his voice, she was wide awake.

        Lukas.

"How did you get this number?" she asked.

"I was at this party last night and this girl, I don't remember her name, was so annoying but hot, though. She wouldn't leave me alone but she said she knew you," Lukas explained. "So we did a little trade."

His tone was suggestive and she realized what he meant. She shook her head in disbelief, "You traded sex for my phone number?"

He hummed in agreement before he smirked, "It seemed like a win to me."

"Of course it did," she commented. "You know that was probably Brittany. You better be careful, Viking. She's crazy about you. Wants to have all your babies and be your trophy wife."

He made a disgusted noise and she giggled in amusement. It caused him to smile on the other end of the phone before he replied, "You have such a pretty laugh."

She rolled her eyes but, nevertheless, smiled, "Well, someone told me I have a pretty everything so you're going to have to impress me with something else."

"I'll think of something."

And he took that seriously.

One day, she got a very pissed off call from her father telling her she had to come to the office. When she got there, her jaw dropped.

There were a million roses waiting in the office of her father. When Logan heard that there was a delivery for Rose, he didn't think anything of it until all this piled into his office.

"Rosebud, what the fuck is this?" he gestured to all the flowers.

"Uh, I don't—I don't know," she said in shock. "Maybe some stalker or something."

She moved around all the baskets of flowers looking for any sort of tag. She found one and read it: a million reasons not to jump off a building.

"Someone clean this shit up," Logan yelled while she clutched a basket of roses to her chest.

It made her smile that he was still thinking about that and that he cared this much about her not doing it. She also smiled because the act itself was a huge gesture that she liked. She ended up taking one of the baskets of roses home while the rest were cleaned out. She had gotten a text from Lukas when she got back home.

Did you get my gift?

She replied back: I can't believe you sent them to my Dad's office.

did you like them?
I know roses are like your thing
A symbol or something

She interrupted his rapid string of nervous texts.

yes, lukas
it was sweet
thank you

He responded with an emoji: 😎

She had laughed a little bit and that night she went to bed with a smile. But then she stared at the empty spot beside her and started to frown. The apartment was so quiet and she ended up turning on some music to drown out the loneliness until she fell asleep.

A few days later she woke up to another missed call except she now knew that it was Lukas. She had saved him to her contacts and she immediately called him back.

"You called me?" she stated as soon as he picked up.

"Well, I wanted to hear that pretty little voice. You sound tired, though."

"I just woke up. I'm still in bed, too," she informed.

"I bet you're one of those people that wakes up absolutely perfect."

        "I am not," she argued.

       "Show me then."

She considered it before she FaceTimed him. He immediately smiled once he saw her face and her blonde hair sprawled over her pillow, "See. Perfect."

She had a large blush, "You are such a dork."

"A dork that made you blush so...am I really?" he smirked.

"I'm hanging up now," she said and she heard him chuckle as she ended the call. But then she held her phone to her chest with a small smile and it was the most blissful morning she had since Jack was still alive.

AN: lukas is totally a person that texts with emojis. And you just know after his text with rose that he went out and like did some celebratory shots
