Chapter 6

I trudge down the steps of my staircase, ready for school. As I sling my bag over one shoulder, I whip my phone out and search for any new texts for updates, but there's none. I sigh and pocket my phone, knowing I would be seeing Liam and my other friends today anyways. I only heard from Scott last night, who told me that when Malia was having a driving lesson with Kira and Lydia, they found a car containing two injured men and one dead one. The dead man so happened to be the father of a student at Beacon Hills High School. They were all supposed to be transporting a prisoner named Donovan, but he escaped. Scott found him in the end, though.

"Marley, stop blocking the door," I now tell my Labrador, but she sits there on the rug with her tongue out as if nothing is wrong. I finally sigh and push her away enough for me to reach the front door. She barks at me as I swing the door open, so I lovingly pet her one last time before I exit my house.

Jus then, I receive a text. I take my phone out from my pocket for the second time to read it.

You going to the bus stop now?

I stop walking and stand on the sidewalk, glancing at Liam's house, but there isn't any sign of him leaving yet.

I continue walking anyway, knowing that despite me already heading to the bus stop, Liam will catch up in no time. Sure enough, after only a minute into my walk, I hear the sound of loud footsteps behind me. Before I turn around, I feel an arm swing around me and rest comfortably on my shoulders.

"You know," I start, facing Liam, "you can't just causally do that without me checking if you're really you. I could've thought you were a killer and kicked you where it hurts."

He chuckles. "I think I can take it."

"You wanna see if you can?"

"Oh. Um, m-maybe next time." I laugh at his answer, then he changes the subject. "Hey, you heard about Donovan, right?"

"Yeah. Do you know how Sheriff Stilinksi is doing? I'm kinda worried about him. That Donovan kid sounds really angry and he escaped- well, Scott said he caught him, but it just shows that he's still dangerous."

"True. But I think the Sheriff has it under control. We're supposed to be keeping an eye out for Tracy."

"Tracy?" I look at Liam, puzzled.

"The girl whose dad died. They say she's actually the one who attacked them."

My eyes widen. "Seriously? Well that's... interesting."

Then, Liam quickly takes his phone out, swipes and taps on the screen a few times, then hands it to me. On the screen is a picture, probably from the school yearbook, of a tan, brunette girl with a kind face. Under the photo, it says her name: Tracy Stewart. "Stiles found this in the library. Anyways, she might not be in school though."

"I sort of hope she won't be," I say as Liam retrieves his phone. "If she's there, who knows what she'll do." He and I start to walk faster because we see the yellow school bus come to a stop in front of the sign. We halt in front of the bus. The doors slide open and we quickly walk in. As usual, the bus is still a little empty because we're father from the school than some students, including Mason. When he spots us walking in, he straightens up in his seat and begins talking in a hushed and secretive kind of voice.

"Hello, Mr. Werewolf." Mason smirks at Liam.

I raise my eyebrows at him and say, "What did you just say?"

"Didn't you know? He's a werewolf," he says in a even lower voice.

Liam shuffles over to sit next to Mason while I make my way to the seat next to them. After quickly dropping my things on the empty space beside me, I face the two boys.

"Wait, why don't you look surprised?" Mason asks before I can speak.

I smile and shrug at his words. "I, uh, I sort of knew..."

"Wait, what? How? Why did I not know this?"

"She couldn't help it," Liam says hurriedly, not wanting to upset Mason. "Her cousin is Scott, remember? He's a werewolf, too."

"He's Liam's Alpha, as well," I add casually and the bus finally gets moving.

"Really?"

"Yeah."

"Whoa."

"Hold up," I say, raising my hand. "I can't believe how easily you're believing this."

"I was surprised, too." Liam nods at me then turns to Mason for an answer.

"Well," says Mason, "considering Liam is one of my best friends and I did see him with glowing eyes, claws, and teeth, it wasn't hard. Not to mention I did see a monster in the school basement last school year, so seeing a werewolf isn't that shocking."

"I'm impressed," I say jokingly. "Oh, and another thing; how exactly did you find out? Did Liam tell you? Wait, when could he have done that?" I stare at Liam.

"I might've forgot to mention this to you last night and this morning," he begins sheepishly, "but, um, when I met up with Mason last night at school, a wolf chased us and-"

"A wolf? A real wolf? Not a werewolf?"

"Yes, a real wolf. Like an actual animal. I was about to tell Mason about everything already, but the wolf ran after us, so I had no choice and I just... roared at the wolf and it stopped."

"Still find it cool." Mason grins just as more students file in the bus when it reaches another one of the stops again.

"I think we should save this talk for later," I cut in, eyeing the various students coming our way. "More people are coming and we don't want anyone hearing about this."

"Good idea," Mason agrees, "but you've got to tell me all about it later."

Meeting in the parking lot now
Sent 12:29 pm

I glance up from my phone to look at Liam who is simultaneously eating his lunch while scrolling through his phone.

"Did you get the text, too?" I ask him. He rips his eyes away from his phone and nods.

"What text?" Mason asks, looking at the both of us.

"It's from Stiles," Liam begins. "He's calling us in for a meeting."

"Cool."

I chuckle and shake my head. "Well, I guess we have to get going. Even though I didn't get to finish my food," I add bitterly, staring down at my unfinished pasta.

Liam smiles at me sympathetically. "We can get another one la-"

"Wait, you guys are leaving?" Mason interrupts.

"Well... I don't think they'll mind that you'll come along... right, Liam?"

"Yeah. I mean, I already told Scott and Stiles that I told you about me being a werewolf," Liam agrees.

Mason nods at us appreciatively. "Awesome. Let's go then?"

I grin at his enthusiasm. "Of course."

We collect our things and get up from our usual table, making our way to the parking lot. There's a comfortable silence as we walk and not long after Liam says that he'll reply to Stiles' text, we spot them- Scott, Stiles, Malia, Lydia, and Kira- hanging out at the edge of the parking lot, right next to the last school bus.

"What's this all about?" I ask them, distractedly smoothing out my pullover.

There's a short silence, so I look up curiously to see that everyone has turned to glance at Mason who is oblivious to their staring as he smiles excitedly. "Uh, we're here to talk about Tracy," Scott finally says.

"Have you seen her anywhere?"

"No. Um, hi Mason."

"Hey guys," he replies, the bright smile still on his face. "So, are you all werewolves?"

The seniors in this circle look at each other questioningly.

"So, you did tell him," Stiles says to Liam, referring to the night where he advised us it was best to tell Mason everything.

"Yeah," says Liam, shoving his hands in his pockets.

"And to answer your question," Lydia says, facing Mason, "no. We're not all werewolves. I'm a banshee."

"Wicked." Then, he looks at Malia expectantly.

"Were-coyote," she informs him. He raises his eyebrows, looking very interested.

"And I'm a Kitsune," Kira finishes.

"A what?"

"We'll get to that later," Scott says.

"Okay, about Tracy," I continue. "What's her deal?"

"It's her... problem that we're concerned about."

I furrow my eyebrows. "Problem?"

Lydia sighs. "Tracy wasn't just having trouble sleeping," she says seriously. "It was a real disorder. It was night terrors."

"Well, now she's the night terrors especially since no one can find her," Stiles says.

"Okay," Scott cuts in, "I know we're all tired and miserable-" He stops shortly and eyes Mason. "- except for you."

"Oh, I'm sorry," he says, not sounding sorry at all. "This is all just mind-blowing." He makes some gestures so emphasize his point. He also seems to ignore Scott's previous words because he just looks at Kira and says, "You're a Kitsune! I don't even know what that is."

"I'm still learning," Kira laughs a little.

"Liam," begins Stiles, facing him, "we said you could tell him, not invite him into the inner circle.

"I-I'm in the inner circle?" Mason gasps, seeming extremely flattered.

"No," everyone choruses but he doesn't falter one bit.

"Riley, couldn't you do anything about it?" Stiles hisses at me.

"Sorry, I kind of made him tag along," I reply sheepishly.

"Guys," Scott says loudly before his best friend can add anything else. "Look, back to Tracy. She's just one lone wolf. We can find her."

"One lone serial-killing wolf, " Malia enunciates.

"She only killed one person," Stiles says thoughtfully.

"Yeah, the other two in that car were just mauled, you know," I say sarcastically.

Stiles ignores what I say. "What do we do when we catch her?"

"I say we cut her down." Malia looks at each of us seriously.

"Intense." Nobody really minds Mason, but I chuckle a little at his reaction.

"Guys," says Scott, "let's concentrate on catching her first. We'll figure out the rest later."

"Just keep your eyes out for Tracy or anything weird, alright?" Stiles tells us with a time of finality. "Okay, get back to class."

With that last reminder, this so-called meeting has ended. We split up and get back to doing what we should do during school until finally, it's the end of the day. We all have one more class to go before we can go home since neither Liam or I have training today. Now, I am currently packing my things up and chatting with Lacey and Stella after a Physics class has just finished.

"Come on, I haven't seen you the whole summer- well, except for the one party and the time we saw each other at the mall last week, but that doesn't count," Lacey says to me.

"We should go out for a shopping spree again," Stella suggests.

I nod in agreement. Last time we went out was last school year, a month after the whole Mexico incident happened. The rest of the school year has either been pretty busy because of school or because we each have our own group of friends and because of the fact that we see each other in a few parties anyways.

"We really should. I'm in."

"Let's talk it over later, then."

"I'll text ya!" Lacey says before pulling her friend into the crowd to head to their last class. I, on the other hand, turn the other way and walk down a different hallway. This hallway so happens to be where Liam's locker is, so when I turn the corner, I immediately see him and Mason waiting there.

"Last class of the day," I say, sighing in relief while I make my to them.

"Yeah," says Mason. "Come on, let's go."

Mason, Liam, and I finally make our way to History class with Mr. Yukimura, one of the enjoyable subjects here with a really cool teacher, without a doubt. This is one of the few classes that I share with the two boys while in the others, we're usually separated, so this is another reason why I like this class a lot. We talk over each other's voices as we debate about something on our way to the classroom. As I listen to Mason's answer, I abruptly stop in front of the opened door when I see the one person we were told to keep an eye out for.

"Remember when Scott said we could find Tracy?" I question quietly.

Mason still seems distracted, but he still answers. "Yeah, 'cause she's just one lone wolf."

I nod, tapping him and Liam. "I think I found her." I point to one of the back seats in the classroom. Both boys follow the direction that I'm looking and pointing at.

Liam nods furiously when he notices her. "I think you just did."

"She doesn't look too good," Mason observes. Sure enough, Tracy looks quite uneasy and as if she just got out of bed. "I don't think she's even supposed to be in this class."

"Yeah, she isn't. I'm gonna try and get a seat closer to her," I then say.

"What? We don't know what she's capable of, Riley," says Liam, shaking his head at me.

"But she's sitting right next to your... friend?" I gesture to the girl who claimed to be "vengeful" when Liam asked if she was still pissed yesterday. "Hey, I forgot to ask: who is she?"

"That's just Hayden. Hayden Romero. We're like enemies," Liam answers quickly. "Look, I'm gonna think of a way to get us out of class. I'll look for Scott as fast as I can. He needs to know."

"Right. And what are we gonna Mr. Yukimura if he asks where you are?" I question, talking quicker due to the fact that many students are beginning to fill up the classroom.

"Tell him I'm not feeling well." As Liam says this, I quickly search for a specific number on my phone and he soon notices. "What are you doing?"

"Calling Scott." Just then, the call is answered by my cousin when I hear the familiar click of the phone being picked up on the other line. "Hey-"

"Uh, is this important? The teacher is kind of giving out my test result right now," my cousin says in a low voice.

"Well- wait, what subject?"

"AP Biology. Look, I'm sorry, but I'll call you later, 'kay Riles? Bye."

He dismisses the phone call and I sigh defetaedly.

"Well?" Mason urges me to talk.

"He's in Biology class. AP," I merely say and Liam already begins walking backward.

"Good. I'll be back." Then, he bursts into a sprint, running down a different hallway in search for my cousin.

I sigh once again and motion to the classroom. "Come on, Mason. Let's get to class."
