Chapter 3

I sat there in shock. How is that even possible? It couldn't be real I must be hallucinating. But what if I wasn't? It must have been real, I don't hallucinate.

So then, what is he, or it? Could he be a mermaid?!? Well I guess a merman. I have to tell everyone! I'll be famous, the girl who found the mermaids! I sit there for a while thinking about how I can get proof when I feel a drop of water on my shoulder. I look up. The sky has turned a dark grey and the clouds look as if a storm is coming. I turn around and face the beach.

"Iris come back! There is going to be storm!" My parents yell frantically from the car.

"Coming!" I yell back. I stand up and dive into the water. The rain has really started coming down so the waves have gotten a lot bigger and stronger making it harder and harder to swim. Every time I get closer a wave pulls me back under. BOOOOOOM. A loud crack of thunder sounds out. Another wave pulls me down and I swallow a huge gulp of water. I swim up to the surface and start coughing violently.

"Iris!!!" My mom screams. She starts to run out to the water but my dad stops her.

No dad, I need help or I'm going to drown!!! My mother turns her head and starts sobbing. I'm still a good ways away from the shore and I'm struggling to stay swimming.

With my last burst of energy I push up and take a deep breath. The waves pull me down and I go weak. My chest starts burn from the lack of oxygen.

"Hey," I hear a familiar voice say, " Told you I'd see you again soon." Maverick swims over and grabs my arm. Let's go the King will be waiting. Just then I black out.
