Prologue
Prologue
I gazed at the paper that had just been placed on my desk by my one of my assistant. I could not help but grimace at the document—the treating between shifters and the dark ones.
I ignored the front page and turned the pages until I reached the very back where the signature of the current vampire lord had been signed on the right.
My other assistant handed me a pen and I proceeded to sign on the right side where my signature was required. I sighed and placed my thumb to my mouth and willed my canines forward. I felt them grow a few inches inside my mouth and bit into my thumb. A iron—bitter taste filled my mouth and I took my thumb and pressed them on the paper.
This was me signing the agreement for a treating with the vampires and ghouls. The first treating to ever existence since the war with them began over twenty thousand years ago.
"Make sure that document arrives to the queen of the witch clan." I told Layla as I handed the document to her. My eyes meeting hers. "Do not lose that document. It is very important that we do not make a mistake so early in this process."
She nodded. She took the document from me and walked out of the room to head to witch territory. The queen of the witches would infuse the document with magic so neither species could break their word or face serve consequences—magical and physical.
This also meant that my younger sister would be marrying into the vampire lord family. She would marry her brother and the two would birth a child in a two year time period to symbolize the peace we promised our people. It also meant that we had no idea what abomination they would birth. Most species stuck to their own—even fated mates were the same species most of the time. There were expectations of course to this rule, but they were not allowed to start families because no one knew how the children would turn out.
Now, we would have the first inter-species child to be born. A marriage between a high ranking shifter woman and a vampire royal in order for the treating to be fulfilled.
I had to admit I hated this—I did not want sister marrying a blood sucker and having a child by one. However, both species have grown tired of war and we have lost too many to continue to lose our people.
I knew why my sister was picked, but why did it have to be her? I just hoped and prayed she had a pleasant marriage because I did not want her miserable just for the sake of her people.
