Chapter 4

Hazel's blood is boiling and it tingles as it slithers through her veins. She feels empowering and she feels that life is back in her hands.

"Aries, I haven't fed on a human in ages!" Hazel whines.

"No Hazel! No more killing," Aries commands.

"What am I supposed to do with this feeling then?" Hazel asks with slight attitude.

"Endure it," Aries chuckles.

Hazel crosses her arms and she forms a scowl. She begins to follow Aries down the road.

"Where are we going?" Hazel asks.

"To where I'm staying," Aries replies.

Hazel raises and eyebrow and her hands fall to her side. They begin to enter a busy street. Many humans surround Hazel and her heart begins to throb faster than normal. She slows her walking pace and squeezes onto her shirt.

Conversations become clearer in Hazel's mind. Cash registers, cars, keys, and doors opening; Hazel can hear it all. Aries turns around and notices the pain in her expression. He walks closer to her and grabs her hand.

"Let's hurry," Aries says.

They begin to walk faster amongst the crowd. Hazel closes her eyes and she lets Aries's warm hand lead the way. She does not care for these humans and all she wants is to feed off of them, but she knows Aries won't allow that to happen.

"Open your eyes," Aries commands.

Hazel opens one eye and notices a tall apartment building right before her presence. She opens the other eye and smiles. "Sweet," she comments. The apartment is huge and brick styled. It seems friendly and cozy.

How the heck did Aries get an apartment like this? Hazel wonders. They walk inside the building and head into Aries's apartment room. Once they enter, Hazel notices the interior decorating, which is warm welcoming.

The walls are a pearl kind of color and the rug shows an artistic look. Hazel also notices the many paintings that sit on the wall.

"You seem to be living life as a human," Hazel assumes.

"It's called fitting in." Aries rolls his eyes.

"Whatever. So what's the plan, how do I save my mother?" Hazel asks with a serious tone.

"Patience Hazel. You'll stay here with me from now on, it's safer that way. Tomorrow–"

"Whoa," Hazel interrupts, "safer? I don't need protecting Aries. You're my friend, and thanks for being my friend, but don't be my protector, don't be my mother."

"Hazel, I know you can protect yourself, but the people that we are going up against are cruel, more sinister than your father and you combined," Aries explains.

"That's ludicrous." Hazel rolls her eyes as she relaxes on the couch.

"Cut your bratty act and listen. You're staying here and tomorrow morning we'll search for clues on where they might have taken your mother," Aries explains further.

"Why should I rest when my mother is out there?" Hazel asks.

"Because it's a trap. They want you to come now. Just trust me on this," Aries sighs.

"Fine, ya baby," Hazel replies rudely.

She marches off to the side of the kitchen and her eyes direct her attention to outside. Earth is going to get corrupted all because of the demons. Hazel cannot fathom her thoughts; she cannot put them into words.

"I'll show you your room," Aries directs.

Hazel follows him to a nearby door. He opens it and the room is quite spacious. The walls are white, except the breathtaking wall that lies behind the Asian styled bed. The wall is decorated with flowered wallpaper.

"Cozy," Hazel smiles.

Aries turns around and heads back to the living room. Hazel doesn't hesitate any longer, she plops right onto her red, fluffy bed. It feels as if she just jumped into a group of clouds.

"Hazel, I'm going to run an errand. Do not leave!" Aries shouts.

"Mhm," Hazel replies.

She doesn't plan on going anywhere. She's far too stressed and jaded. "I'll take a quick nap," Hazel whispers to herself. Her mouth opens wide and her hands outstretch into the heavens. Her dramatic yawn session finishes and she half closes her eyes.

Her body lies back and she turns to her side. Her eyes blink a couple of times before completely closing. After minutes of twisting and turning, she finally manages to fall asleep.

Chills slither down Hazel's back and she flinches. She opens her eyes slowly. Once her vision becomes clear on the view, she immediately jumps up and looks around. She isn't in Aries's apartment anymore.

The soft sound of the waterfall begins to compel Hazel. It is soothing and peaceful. The way it drizzles onto the hard rocks is music to her ears. The flowers beside the waterfall begin to dance to the soft tune. With the heavy wind mixing with the tune of the water, her ears become more and more enticed.

Sweet smells of spring flowers and honey fills her nostrils. For once, Hazel feels extremely at peace.

"Beautiful isn't it?" A cunning voice asks.

Hazel gasps and checks her surroundings. No one is in sight. She clears her throat and she begins to step back. Her toes brush against the prickly, yet soft, fallen leaves.

A shadow appears over the trees and Hazel knows exactly who it is now. She doesn't have a blockage on her mind anymore. He's a terrible, terrible demon. This is what her mother told her. Terror still fills her heart, but she's relieved to know who is corrupting her mind.

"Just come out already!" Hazel shouts in frustration. "You think this is funny? Messing around with my head like guys mess with girl's emotions. What a pervert," I roll my eyes.

The shadow on the tree disappears. Hazel believes she scared the person away. A heavy breath leaves her lips and her eyes close. She feels a soft, yet muscular hand on her shoulder.

Hazel's eyes pierce open and the voice says, "Pervert, really?" He then laughs.

Hazel attempts to turn around, but he clenches onto her shoulder.

"Don't turn around or I'll kill your mother." It isn't like Hazel to feel threatened, but now she's feeling more threatened than ever. It doesn't matter to her if her own life was on the line, but now that her mother is involved, that changes the whole situation.

"I've been having fun haunting your dreams," the voice chuckles.

"I have a feeling I know who you are," Hazel speaks with fear in her voice. "What do you want with me or my mother?" She asks.

"Nothing, I was just given orders to take her. As for you, my orders are to make sure you don't get in the way." Even though he is a demonic man, his voice sounds almost flirtatious to Hazel.

"Who–" Hazel pauses, not knowing if she should ask her question. She clears her throat once more and finishes, "Who are you."

"Fire," the voice replies. Hazel's eyes dilate and before she knows it, her world is melting right before her eyes and her dream comes to an end.
