8 - Escapism
<Serenity HQ>
Seungcheol was looking through some documents on the screen as he heard a knock, "Come in."
Jeonghan stepped in as Seungcheol simply gestured at the side tablet for the younger and focused back on his work.
"Mr. Choi-" Jeonghan began, "I've to talk."
"Hmm speak." Seungcheol didn't look up.
Jeonghan kept an envelope on the table, "My resignation letter."
Seungcheol frowned, his gaze landing on the younger, "What?"
"Resignation letter." Jeonghan sternly stated, "I've mailed you as well but you need to sign it to complete the procedure. The letter has been passed by the panel without any problem. All of my ongoing projects are over so I'm not eligible for notice period either."
Seungcheol registered the words in his mind. Resignation Letter. He couldn't understand why those words were piercing him.
"May I know the actual reason?" Seungcheol raised a brow, "What's this new drama of yours?"
Jeonghan inhaled a deep breath, "Drop the burden of being your employee from my shoulders then I'll say the truth."
Seungcheol stood up as he walked around the table to stand in front of him, "You can say whatever you want."
Jeonghan nodded in denial, "You won't be able to take that. Sign it first."
"And you don't get to order me." Seungcheol chuckled without humor, "Fine, you want me to sign your resignation letter? No worries."
He opened the envelope and pulled out the letter. He took a quick glance of the texts and the formally fake reason after which he signed it, "Say now."
"I can't take your ego anymore." Jeonghan blurted out, "Call me weak and timid but your unnecessary bullshit is not my cup of tea."
"Mr. Yoon, just because I'm not your boss anymore doesn't mean you can defame me." Seungcheol scrunched his brows.
"I don't care." Jeonghan stepped closer, "Since day one, I'm dealing with your fake superiority complex and I totally hate it." He pierced his index finger against the older's chest, "This ego of yours will surely ruin you someday."
Seungcheol slowly trapped the younger amidst his arms and the desk, "You-"
"Hyung-" Hoshi walked in without knocking as usual and was immediately met with the immaculate tension in the cabin.
"Leave." Seungcheol mumbled in a low husky tone without leaving Jeonghan's gaze.
"Yup." Hoshi shrugged as he walked away, warning the guards to stop anyone from even knocking at the cabin before Jeonghan goes out.
"Ego, superiority complex, blah blah." Seungcheol clenched his jaw, "You think using these words against me will upset me a lot and I'll start begging you for a not so deserved forgiveness?"
"I know it very well Mr. Choi, nothing can faze you." Jeonghan retorted, "You think your money and power works everywhere? Yeah, it surely does. That's why, I'm the one who's losing my job. Because if I'll say these while being your employee, you'll probably ruin my entire life, right?
Pathetic. Very pathetic. Just because someone doesn't feed your ego and slaps you with reality, you have to go on and play ridiculous-"
"Shut up." Seungcheol's voice was low but threatening, "I hate when people blabber against anyone without reflecting on their own actions. Out of the many things you've done, can I remind you of the day when you tried to spike my drink?
What was that? Tried to get a room with your boss for whatever reasons. Isn't THAT pathetic, Mr. Yoon?"
"You very well know I didn't have any wrong intentions, I just wanted to get myself free from-"
"Of course." Seungcheol chuckled as he inched closer to the younger, "When you do it, you don't have any wrong intentions and you should get sympathy but when I do it, it's pathetic and egoistic."
"Okay then what explanation do you have for your actions, Mr. Choi?" Jeonghan frowned, the proximity shaking his confidence, "For each move you make to make me go through some random bullshit, you do it for entertainment, don't you?"
Seungcheol laughed briefly, "With the numerous employees and responsibilities I have, I don't have time to fuck with a random employee just for entertainment.
You added random things to my coffee, went on to gossip about me behind my back, never managed to talk sincerely with me, and I don't even want to count how many times you've spilled water or whatever on me.
Trust me, it has happened so many times that I can't even point out if it's accidental or intentional. And then went on to spike my drink and lure me to a room? Just imagine for a moment, if I would have done the same to you?
Spiked your drink and took you to a room? You would have literally sued me by now even if I wouldn't have touched you. Justify it, go on, I'm listening."
"I accept that I was wrong." Jeonghan agreed, "But that doesn't give you the right to throw me to a random person with filthy intentions."
"That wasn't on my plan Mr. Yoon. You had to repent for your mistake and our plan was to get seventy percent of his company's shares, not to get you trapped." Seungcheol stated, "My only mistake was to believe that you were actually very courageous. I didn't know that your pretty little attitude only awakens against me."
"Enough of this. I don't have the energy to argue with you." Jeonghan sighed, "Leave me."
Seungcheol stepped back, "Go on."
Jeonghan picked up the letter and began to leave while Seungcheol took his seat.
"If you're really resigning because of me, then I must say, it's pretty useless Mr. Yoon."
Jeonghan turned around at the statement, "Pardon?"
"Because if I'll really want to seek some useless revenge from you, then I'll hunt you down whether you come to my office or not." Seungcheol chuckled lazily.
"Are you challenging me Mr. Choi?" Jeonghan raised a brow.
"Challenge? You? No no! I won't challenge a person who can't even stand for himself." Seungcheol scoffed, "Never."
"Mr. Choi, don't act like you have known me for years because you do not."
"Well, you don't know me either."
"Right. But now, you need to know me." Jeonghan clenched his jaw as he tore his resignation letter.
Seungcheol gazed him from top to bottom with a slight grin, "Interesting. Very interesting."
"Let's see how far you can go." Jeonghan mumbled.
"I love how you just want all the spotlight on yourself. Do you really think it's good for you for attracting my attention towards yourself?" Seungcheol cocked a brow.
"Someone needs to burst the bubble of your narcissism, Mr. Choi."
"And you think you're that someone?" Seungcheol laughed briefly, "C'mon Mr. Yoon, you got to be kidding me."
"What if I am that someone?" Jeonghan leaned on the desk, "What if I make you regret every single decision you make?"
"Sure, no one ain't stopping you." Seungcheol paused, "Just don't start blaming me if you get to bear the consequences."
"Trust me, I can handle whatever consequences come my way." Jeonghan's voice was low and confident, "You'll surely wish that you would have never crossed paths with me by the time I'm done with you."
"Only if you had even a shred of an idea of what I'm capable to do." Seungcheol shrugged, "Just because I was going easy with you doesn't mean that's all I can do."
"I've a pretty good idea of your useless facades, Mr. Choi." Jeonghan walked around the table, standing in front of the older's seat while keeping one of his arms on the desk, "You're not as mysterious as you think."
"Is that so?" Seungcheol pretended to be surprised, "Then enlighten me sir, what secrets do you know about me?"
"I know you're used to getting everything your way." Jeonghan leaned against the desk, the tension between them was palpable, "You're the boss after all. Everyone bows to you, everyone does your bidding, everyone does whatever you ask. It must make you feel pretty powerful, doesn't it?"
"I don't feel powerful because they bow to me and blah blah." Seungcheol mocked, "It's actually the other way round."
"Yeah, right, you're very powerful." Jeonghan's voice dripped with sarcasm, "But you're also a narcissistic control freak who can't stand not being in charge."
"Careful honey." Seungcheol warned, "Your resignation is no more intact. Don't forget who you're taking to."
"Probably an insufferable, power hungry man?" Jeonghan refused to back down.
"Watch it Mr. Yoon, I hope you reconsider your actions before pushing your luck too hard." Seungcheol looked up to glare at the younger.
"Or what?" Jeonghan raised a brow.
"You're so sick for seeking pleasure in pushing my limits." Seungcheol scoffed, "Not that I mind. I like to see at least one person trying to show up some guts and stand against me."
"Yeah, the only person you don't have on your fingertips." Jeonghan chuckled.
"Mr. Yoon, let's end this. All I would like to say is, best of luck." Seungcheol mocked, "Let's see how much more stupid you can get with your plans."
"Thanks I guess?" Jeonghan was about to leave when he halted, "One more thing."
"Yeah go on?"
Jeonghan leaned closer to Seungcheol's ear, his hands slipping something in the older's coat's pocket, "The dagger you gave me that day. You know, I don't want to keep any of your favors."
Before Jeonghan could retract, Seungcheol held his collars to pull him closer, "Let me give you a sweet reminder. The time you'll be celebration your victory will be the exact time when I'll strike and your downfall will start. Until then, play."
As Seungcheol freed him, Jeonghan glared at him for one last time and left,
"I'm-" Seungcheol chuckled, "Intrigued."
One week had passed and there were no unnecessary banters between Seungcheol and Jeonghan which gradually made the older believe that this matter was sorted.
Additionally, Seungcheol had another scenario in hand. His stalker. And because of that, he was more than happy to get relief from at least one side.
"Come in." Seungcheol stated as he heard a knock.
Jeonghan stepped into the cabin, "Mr. Choi, you called?"
"Yeah, sit." Seungcheol nodded, "I had to talk about the deal with Shimmer Grandeur."
"The project is completed and reviewed." Jeonghan informed, "We just have to prepare for the presentation for the meeting."
"Hmm the meeting is tomorrow." Seungcheol focused on his screen, "You're in charge of the second presentation which is for the web designing, right?"
"Yes, Mr. Choi, after you." Jeonghan stated, "I saw that you modified it."
"Yeah, I did." Seungcheol agreed, "This deal is a really crucial one." He pulled out the pen drive and kept it on the desk, "Keep this along with the other files and hand it to Mr. Kwon."
"Sure." Jeonghan took the pen drive.
"Okay then, be prepared for the meeting." Seungcheol summarized, "Dismiss."
Jeonghan stood up and left, making his way to Soonyoung's cabin.
But he halted on his way, and idea striking his mind which was both risky and dangerous but above all of them, tempting.
"This deal is a really crucial one."
Jeonghan chuckled to himself, "You really need a harsh kick on your forced pride. And of course, nothing can be better than this, Mr. Choi."
He quickly searched for Wonwoo and found a safe corner with him to explain his plan.
"Well-" Wonwoo hesitated, "Isn't it a bit too much?"
"Still better than that seduction plan." Jeonghan rolled his eyes.
"Yeah yeah I get it." Wonwoo patted his back, "Best of luck though, I hope it works exactly how you want it to."
They talked for a while after which they walked towards different direction. Wonwoo made his way back to the Web Designing Team's cabin when he bumped into someone as his hand hit a table, giving him a small scar.
And that someone was none other than Kim Mingyu who was still busy in his phone.
Wonwoo snatched the phone from the younger who frowned, "What the hell?!"
"Can't you keep your phone in your pocket while walking?" Wonwoo rebuked.
"Give me my phone back, it's important." Mingyu reached for it.
"No." Wonwoo restrained, "You need to apologise first."
"Huh?!" Mingyu chuckled mockingly, "Don't think too highly of yourself and give me my damn phone."
"I won't." Wonwoo crossed his arms while the phone remained safe in his hand, "You need to learn some basic etiquette, Mr. Kim."
"We'll hold a class for it later Mr. Jeon." Mingyu's voice laced with sarcasm, "Right now, don't intervene in my work."
"It's not hard to say sorry and get your phone back." Wonwoo retorted.
Mingyu clenched his jaw, his phone was ringing but Wonwoo was as stern as ever, "You're getting on my nerves. You think you can lecture me about etiquette? You're not my keeper."
"I'm not trying to be your keeper, spare me." Wonwoo shot a hard look, "I'm just trying to teach you some manners which you clearly lack."
"Oh so you're now an expert on manners?" Mingyu took a step closer, "Who the hell do you think you are to lecture me, Mr. Know it all?"
"Last time I checked, it wasn't so hard to apologise." Wonwoo's voice was cool and steady, "But I guess that would hurt that ego of yours, wouldn't it? Mr. Big Shot can never be wrong, can he?"
"You think you've me all figured out?" Mingyu's voice was low and dangerous, "You don't have a single clue about me so better back off and give me my damn phone."
"You don't need to be known, Mr. Kim, you're infamous for being a spoiled one." Wonwoo retorted.
"Not you making a big deal of a small bump, Mr. Jeon."
"Only if it wasn't due to you being too glued on your phone to look where you were walking." Wonwoo retorted, "I wonder how some random fling of yours was more important than walking like a decent person."
Mingyu laughed briefly, "And how do you know I was talking to some random fling of mine? Do you want to be one of them?"
"Please spare me with those cheap statements." Wonwoo rolled his eyes, "I'm not interested in being another one of your meaningless flings. Unlike you, I've standards."
"Ah, I see." Mingyu stepped closer, making the older's back hit the wall, "You claim to have standards, do you? And yet, here you are, passing judgement on me without knowing a thing about me. How hypocritical of you, Mr. Jeon."
"I don't need to." Wonwoo retorted, "Your attitude says a lot."
"Didn't know I would come across a mind reading genius all of a sudden." Mingyu chuckled, "According to your interpretation of me, shouldn't I be taming you right now?"
"Taming me?" Wonwoo scoffed with a grin, "Is that supposed to be a threat or a lame attempt to intimidate me? Hate to break it to you Mr. Kim but your attempts at dominance don't work on me."
Mingyu gazed him from top to bottom, "Is that so, Mr. Jeon?" His phone rung again.
"Someone's too eager to see you, I guess?" Wonwoo mocked.
"I-"
"Ah here you are." Hoshi intervened, "I'm calling you since forever, Mingyu."
Wonwoo and Mingyu turned towards the other male.
"Oh, my fling." Mingyu intentionally mocked.
"Hold up, I ain't your fling?" Hoshi's voice was threatening.
"No no, a particular someone thought so." Mingyu laughed briefly.
Wonwoo inhaled a deep breath, slamming Mingyu's phone on the table and walked away.
Mingyu sighed, "Now, why were you calling me?"
"I wasn't?" Hoshi raised a brow, "I just saved your pride, Mr. Bigshot."
"You are really enjoying a bit too much, aren't you?" Mingyu whined.
"But I must say, you lost to him." Hoshi laughed.
"What was I supposed to do?"
"I don't know, kiss him?"
"Hah you're too crazy, hyung." Mingyu rolled his eyes as both of them walked out.
