12 - Bad Romance
<Serenity HQ>
Seungcheol used the detector he had brought to pull off all the secret recorders from his cabin. He was glad that at least there were no hidden cameras as well.
He chuckled to himself as he leaned down to his seat, "Time to face the consequences Mr. Yoon."
Jeonghan stepped into Seungcheol's cabin to mark his presence on the tablet.
Seungcheol eyed him with a sly grin, "Morning, Mr. Yoon."
"Morning, Mr. Choi." Jeonghan focused on his work.
"The air seems to have been changed after this weekend." Seungcheol mocked.
"Congratulations, Mr. Choi." Jeonghan finally looked up, "I heard you're getting married soon?"
"Thank you so much." Seungcheol chuckled widely, "But you don't sound very happy, Mr. Yoon?"
"Me?" Jeonghan paused, "I'm very happy for you, Mr. Choi."
"Is that the most enthusiastic you can be, Mr. Yoon? Seungcheol raised a brow.
"I really don't understand why do I need to be enthusiastic about your wedding." Jeonghan retorted.
"Don't be modest now." Seungcheol's tone was suggestive, "I thought you would stop acting up over what happened that evening?"
"And why should that matter? It was a one-time thing." Jeonghan composed himself, "We both know it didn't mean anything."
"A one-time thing, huh?" Seungcheol repeated, 'It's not your game anymore, Mr. Yoon.'
"It's the truth." Jeonghan maintained his firm tone, "There's no point on dwelling on it or trying to make it into something more than it was."
Seungcheol stood up from his seat, stepping closer to the younger, "You really think you can brush it off like that?"
"Mr. Choi, you're going to marry soon." Jeonghan glared at him, "Behave."
"Oh the seriousness?" Seungcheol trapped the younger between the desk and his arms, "I don't think my future wife would mind anything I do before the marriage."
"You're pathetic." Jeonghan muttered, "Really pathetic."
"Ouch, that hurts." Seungcheol faked a dramatic tone, "If being pathetic allows me to have a little fun before I say 'I do' then I'll take it. You're just mad because you know you want it too. Admit it."
"This counts as cheating, Mr. Choi." Jeonghan retorted.
"Is it?" Seungcheol traced the younger's jawline, "Even if I haven't taken the vows, yet?"
"Said the vows or not." Jeonghan tried to steady his voice, "You've made a commitment."
Seungcheol laughed briefly, "And what if I say I don't give two fucks about that?"
"You have no regard for your fiance's feelings?" Jeonghan's hands clenched his fists, "You don't care about anything but yourself."
"At least I do care about myself, unlike you." Seungcheol chuckled, 'Let's check your limits now Mr. Yoon.'
"What's that supposed to mean?"
Seungcheol shrugged, "The way you're suppressing your desires is quiet concerning, Mr. Yoon."
"I'm not suppressing anything." Jeonghan snapped, "I just don't see the point in indulging every fleeting desire that comes my way. And you, throwing away your fiance's trust and love so easily, just to satisfy your own whims - now that's concerning."
'As if you didn't kill her yourself.'
"As I said Mr. Yoon, I don't care about anyone except for myself." Seungcheol leaned closer, their breathes mingling, "Marrying her gives me profit so I agreed. You, on the other hand will give me satisfaction, I'll take that."
"You're unbelievable." Jeonghan's eyes widened at the heartless confession, "Profit and satisfaction, is that all you care about? What about loyalty and empathy?"
"I'm a businessman Mr. Yoon, I make practical decisions, not emotional ones." Seungcheol's voice was barely above a whisper, "And if I can get satisfaction and profit at the same time, why not?"
'Don't oblige me to use the other plan, Mr. Yoon.'
"And do you know what this kind of people are called? Selfish bastards." Jeonghan clenched his jaw, "Don't you care about how much you'll hurt her?"
"Oh please, she's marrying a successful businessman." Seungcheol chuckled while tracing Jeonghan's arm, "She'll have everything she could want, material-wise. Is that not enough?"
"And? Don't you think she deserves to be loved by the person she's marrying?" Jeonghan frowned.
'Getting dramatic, are we? Now her murderer will teach me to respect her feelings?'
"I don't want to love anyone, fine?" Seungcheol rolled his eyes, "And anyways, hurting anyone doesn't matter as long as I'm getting you."
"And what do you want with me huh?" Jeonghan's heart beat raced, "Just a quick thrill? A bit of fun before your wedding?"
"You're so wrong." Seungcheol laughed bitterly, "I don't mind, even after the wedding."
"Even after-" Jeonghan gasped, "You'll cheat on your wife?!!"
'Such a player, you are.'
"Why not?" Seungcheol removed the strands of hair from the younger's forehead, "Did you really think I'd change my ways because I'm getting married? I'm still the same selfish bastard, through and through."
"You seriously have no morals." Jeonghan was frustrated, "You'll do anything, sacrifice anyone, just for you own satisfaction."
"Damn right." Seungcheol inched closer, "I'll do whatever it takes to get what I want. And right now, Mr. Yoon- what I want is you."
"You're so shameless." Jeonghan muttered, "You think I'll give into your whims again? Even after knowing how much of a morally inhumane person you are?"
"Stop pretending, already."Seungcheol gripped his waist to pull him closer, "Just give in, before I get too desperate."
"For fuck's sake Mr. Choi, you're getting MARRIED." Jeonghan tried to ignore the affect of the proximity, "Have some shame."
"Shame? Fuck it." Seungcheol whispered, his lips hovering over Jeonghan's, "I wonder why do you care about my fiance more than I do."
"Because she deserves someone who won't discard her once done with her." Jeonghan retorted.
"Why would I do anything with her when I have you?" Seungcheol's grip on the younger's waist tightened.
"And what makes you think I'll let a committed man do anything to me?" Jeonghan glared at the older.
Seungcheol placed his hand over the younger's neck, his thumb caressing his cheek, "Stop fussing about my commitments, Mr. Yoon. I'm going to take what I want. If you really don't want it then stop me."
Seungcheol began to lean in. He chuckled as Jeonghan shut his eyes while he pressed his lips against the younger's. He parted away in a brief moment, "Now, may I ask, why didn't you stop me? All these big talks, only to become my side quest at the end?"
Jeonghan remained silent.
Seungcheol stepped back, "That's how I like you. All, wrecked. And I'll keep making you a mess, my wedding, my wife, anything won't do shit."
Jeonghan slammed his hand on the table and stormed out of the cabin.
"This is just the beginning, Mr. Yoon." Seungcheol chuckled, "There's a reason why you shouldn't mix games with love." He sighed as he got back to his seat.
"Hyung!" Mingyu barged into Seungcheol's cabin, "Areum- did you hear that? She's no more."
Seungcheol smirked, "I knew this would happen."
"Hyung? Sorry to say this, I'm glad this happened but she was your fiance?!" Mingyu gasped, "What if some enemies of ours killed her? We need to show them our power."
"Don't be sorry. I got engaged with her not because I wanted to marry her. She was just a mediator for me." Seungcheol stood up, "Second, she isn't killed by our enemies for sure. I just needed some clues."
"Clues?"
Seungcheol nodded, "I want the person who killed her in front of my eyes. I want to ruin this pretty devil, for sure!"
"Are you talking about-" Mingyu realised.
"Yes. Let's see how long he can hide his identity." Seungcheol chuckled wickedly, "I'm coming for you, my sinister love."
"You found him?" Mingyu gasped.
"Yes." Seungcheol grinned in excitement, "You don't know how eager I am for everything to proceed. My plan is working exactly my way. She was killed last night while going to the club, with a dagger."
Seungcheol's phone rang. He saw the caller id, Min Hyeseok.
"It's so fun to have every single person on my fingertips." Seungcheol laughed. He composed himself quickly to pick up the call, "Yeah, Mr. Min? Good Morning."
"Son-" Hyeseok cried.
Seungcheol rolled his eyes, putting the phone on speaker, "Yes, Mr. Min? Is everything alright?"
"Areum- she-"
Seungcheol faked his concern, "What happened Mr. Min? You sound tense. And what about Areum?"
"Someone killed her." Hyeseok broke down over the call.
"WHAT NONSENSE?!" Seungcheol continued his act, "Mr. Min this is not a fair prank."
"Why would I lie about this?" Hyeseok's voice was weak, "She's no more."
"Please say it's not the truth, Mr. Min!" Seungcheol made his voice sound frail. He nudged Mingyu to add some spice to the drama.
"Oh no hyung- what happened?" Mingyu worriedly spoke onto the call.
"Hello? Hello? Hello?!!"
"Mr. Min-" Mingyu took over the call, "What did you say to him? He fell unconscious."
Seungcheol tried to contain his laughter as he smacked Mingyu's arm playfully.
"He- he fainted?"
"I'll talk to you later." Mingyu hurried, "Soonyoung hyung! Jun hyung! Seokmin! Hansol! Chan! HELP!!" He hung up the call.
As soon as the line was cut both of them shared a high five.
"See? I told you, it's really fun." Seungcheol inhaled a deep breath, "Swiped her off without getting dirt on my hands."
"You played a real game this time." Mingyu nodded.
"It was much needed." Seungcheol straightened his posture, "Ain't no one winning against me, against us."
"Definitely not." Mingyu grinned, "So? What's next?"
"Next is a surprise." Seungcheol stood up, "Let's go to meet Mr. Min and do the formalities."
"Okay wait, don't you think he'll try to find her culprit?" Mingyu asked.
"Let him." Seungcheol scoffed, "As if I'm going to let him survive for long."
"But still, what if he captures the stalker before you?" Mingyu questioned.
"First, he's mourning right now. Second, he's dumb. Third, my prey is mine only." Seungcheol stated, "Now, let's go. Others will manage things in the office."
"Okay." Mingyu nodded as both of them reached the car.
Hoshi made sure that the door of his cabin was locked after which he made a call, "Woozi?"
"What now?"
Hoshi rolled his eyes, "Can you at least talk a bit nicely?"
"Why would I be nice to the person who locked me up in his apartment which is so freaking confusing?"
"I gave you the phone for a reason."
"This is a phone? More like a walkie-talkie with the only person to connect being you. You should've better given me a map of your apartment."
"Why are you so tough?!" Hoshi sighed.
"I'm not tough, I'm done with you and your maze-like apartment." Woozi huffed.
"You just have a terrible sense of direction." Hoshi laughed.
"Stop laughing. Why did you call me?"
"I called you to ask if you were fine." Hoshi stated.
"Yeah very much fine being stuck here." Woozi sarcastically stated.
Hoshi sighed, "Do I need to bring anything for you while coming back home?"
"Well, since you asked, you could actually try unlocking the damn door and letting me out. That would be a nice start."
Hoshi chuckled, "Try again. Maybe something I can actually accept."
"Bring me some good snacks and coffee from my favorite place."
"Favorite place?" Hoshi frowned, "And where's that?"
"Better ask my friends. C'mon, I can annoy you a bit, no?"
Hoshi scoffed heavily, "Anything else, your highness?"
"Some manners maybe? At least you can apologize for treating me like a prisoner."
"Apologize?" Hoshi grinned playfully, "As if you don't like being there, all surrounded by stuff that would remind you of me."
"Fuck you." Woozi snapped.
"Wait for me to come back at least, then, why not?" Hoshi's voice was smooth.
"You- What?!"
Hoshi grinned at his response, "I wouldn't have let you talk so much in person."
"You wouldn't dare." Woozi tried to sound confident.
"I'll accept your simple denial Woozi, but don't expect the same after challenging me." Hoshi teased further.
"I didn't challenge you. You were the one who-"
"Oh, but you did, Woozi. You used the word, 'dare' and now you're all flustered."
"Shut up."
"Well, you'll have a fair chance to shut me up once I get home."
"Yeah, with a good slap across your cheeks."
"Pretty sure a measly little slap from you won't hurt."
"And how about a nice, hard punch?"
"Aw so nice of you Woozi, I'll take that."
"I seriously won't hold back."
"Well, me neither. And I don't plan to use slaps or punches, I've got better plans. See you in the evening." Hoshi hung up the call.
He stood up realizing he had to get to know what was Woozi's favorite place for snacks and coffee. Then he had to order take-outs while returning home.
He made his way to the web-designing team's cabin.
"Oh- Mr. Kwon." Wonwoo and Jeonghan acknowledged.
"Only two? Mr. Lee isn't here?" Hoshi asked.
"He's on an abrupt leave." Jeonghan nodded, "Didn't tell us either."
"Oh." Hoshi chuckled nervously, "Must be an emergency. Anyways, what's his favourite place to get snacks and coffee?"
"You mean Woozi's favorite place?" Wonwoo frowned.
"Uh-yeah actually he once happened to bring coffee for me from that place. He told me that it was his favorite place but I forgot the name. I want to know." Hoshi explained.
"Sure." Jeonghan chuckled as he gave him the location.
"Thanks." Hoshi left after which Wonwoo stood up, "Hyung, I've to leave early today. Take care!"
"You too!" Jeonghan smiled after which he was left alone.
He went through the last hour of office, completing his work. As soon as the clock struck six, he wrapped up his tasks and left the cabin.
Jeonghan reached the parking lot which was unexpectedly dead silent. He made his way towards his car but before he could get in, he felt a soft cloth being pressed against his mouth and nose.
He could feel more than two people around himself, all unknown as everything began to black out.
