IT HAD been a month since Junhui and Chinsun had gotten together. They had became inseparable. He practically lived at the girls' dorm, running the girls away. The only time they were ever truly separate was when they both had practices the same day. This was one of those days. Sunny trudged into the practice room tiredly. Junhui had dropped her off after eating breakfast at her favorite café. "No surprise here," Soyeon voiced angrily, her hands placed on her hips. Sunny dropped her bag on the floor. They still had yet to replace the couch, but a single frame of the girls at their debut hung on the mostly empty wall. "Huh?" Sunny replied in confusion. She dropped to the floor to begin her stretching. "You're tired. Like always!" — "And?" she retorted, still not fully understanding the problem.
"If you two would actually sleep at night instead of humping like a pair of bunnies, you wouldn't be slacking in practice." Sunny's jaw dropped at Soyeon's words. Her cheeks burned a bright red. "Soyeon!" Miyeon gasped. Eunnie stood in the corner quietly beside Soojin. Sunny's arms crossed over her chest. "We don't hump like bunnies!" she argued, though she knew she wasn't right. Junhui was very sexually active. They were very sexually active. "You do, though! And now you're jeopardizing our opportunity." Miyeon grabbed Soyeon's arm. Sunny felt a sickness arise in her stomach. "You're supposed to be our leader, but all you're being is a real big jerk," Sunny spat angrily. She stood to her feet and picked up her discarded bag. "Where do you think you're going?"
"Anywhere where you aren't!" Sunny slammed the door behind her as tears sprang to her eyes. She stomped back toward the elevator and boarded it, pushing the lobby floor. She withdrew her cellphone from her bag and called the one person she knew she could trust: Namjoon. He answered after three rings, his groggy morning voice making a slight smile to cross her lips. "Joonie?" she spoke gently. Namjoon had fallen asleep at his studio. He had been doing that a lot, working on songs and avoiding Chinsun at all costs. "Sunny?" She bit down on her quivering lip. Just hearing his voice made her stomach tie in knots, and her eyes water. She missed talking to him. "Where are you?" she asked. He drew in a sharp breath, sitting up from his lying position on the couch. He rubbed the sleep from his eyes before answering, "At my studio. Why?"
She chuckled despite the tears leaking from her eyes. "You're so hardworking, Namjoon oppa. You should rest." She tucked her hair behind her ears as the elevator stopped. She had reached the lobby floor faster than she had thought. She hastily wiped the tears from her face before the elevator doors creaked open. "Aren't you supposed to be in practice right now?" he asked, moving the subject away from him and his studio. She hummed, already moving through the lobby quickly, with her head ducked down and her hand held over her face to hide her tears. "I actually called you for a reason..." — "Okay? What's the reason?" She couldn't deny that the uncertainty in his voice stung. Once outside, she felt the warm air overtake her senses. She breathes deeply through her nose, sniffling. "Sunny, are you crying?"
That uncertainty slipped from his tone, being replaced with a sudden spurt of worry. "Yeah, I just– Can I come over? I really need someone to talk to." He sighed over the receiver. He wanted to say no. He knew that if he saw the tears within her eyes, he'd crumble underneath her gaze. But he couldn't let her deal with whatever it was on her own, not when he could help. "Of course you can," he replied gently. Se felt a smile take over her features as she wiped the new tears falling over her ample cheeks. "Thank you, Namjoon. I'll be there in a little bit. I'm sorry in advance." His eyebrows furrowed at her apology. "Sorry for what?" She laughed humorlessly, fighting her hair away from her face. "I look terrible." You could never, he thought to himself. He only breathed out a laugh. "That doesn't matter to me, Chinsunie."
She smiled to herself. "I know, I just worry." She began the trek towards the BigHit building. Of course, she could call a taxi. She could also ask Namjoon to pick her up, but the warm air outside seemed to calm the raging emotions inside of her. "You shouldn't," he replied softly. She missed this. She missed speaking with the boys on a regular basis. She had drifted away, and she knew it, because of Junhui. He was always so jealous of her close relationship with the members. "I'm so sorry, Namjoon oppa." Tears began to well up once more in her dry eyes. "You should stop apologizing. It'll cause more harm than good, you know? Mistakes are what makes you human." She chuckled. "How poetic of you to say. I should have expected nothing less coming from you." This time, he laughed that distinct laugh.
"You know me so well, Sunny-ah. I'm surprised you didn't expect it." She paused on the sidewalk to pull her dark curls back from her face. The sun was beating down on her still frame. The heat made her cheeks tint pink as sweat collected on her smooth skin. "You're right. I'm ashamed." She continued her long walk to the building. She hoped that he would be alone. She wouldn't want to talk to anyone else about this. Not when it is so personal. She bit down on her lip as the line fell silent. All she could hear was Namjoon's steady breathing. Her mind raced to places she didn't want to be. She remembered how much she enjoyed his company before Junhui. He rivaled Yoongi for the position of her best friend, yet he never succeeded in taking over. Even though that is true, she still found herself crawling to him with her problems instead of the Daegu boy.
"I've got a question that I need to ask," Namjoon voiced. She picked up her speed once she noticed the familiarity of her surroundings. She was nearing the building after a ten minute walk. "Ask away," she replied. Her cheeks were probably sunburned now, decorating her skin with small freckles. "Why are you coming to me? Why not Yoongi or Jimin?" She sighed heavily upon walking up to the large building. She swiped away the sweat trickling down her face. "I'll tell you in a moment. I'm about to walk into the building." He hummed in response before she clicked end call. With as much courage she could muster, she stepped into the building. The receptionist waved as she recognized the small brunette. "Annyeonghaseyo," they both greeted each other before Sunny made her way over to the elevator.
The ride to Namjoon's studio felt like it had taken ages. She stared at her own reflection within the metal doors until, finally, they pulled apart on the correct floor. She exited the lift and slipped down the hallway, rapping her knuckles against the wooden door. "Come in!" She sighed upon hearing his voice. With a small smile, she pushed open the door and slipped into the dimly lit room. Namjoon sat in his chair, spinning around until he spotted her sit on the couch. She had been crying. The bright illuminance of his multiple computers casted shadows over her face, her almond shaped eyes puffy and red. A pink shade captured her tear streaked cheeks. He wanted to run his palm over her cheek, wiping away the evidence of her sorry. Though, with glistening eyes and bitten and bruised lips, he still found her beautiful. "What's going on, Sunny-ah?" She bit down, hard, onto her bottom lip.
Just like her brother, it was easy for Sunny to tear up. It was no shock that it would happen the moment he asked her what was wrong. She scolded herself mentally as she ran her fingers through her tousled hair. "I just, I don't know what to do, Joonie." He shuddered at the use of his nickname. His mother was the one who started the nickname when he was young. It felt like bliss rolling off Sunny's tongue so casually. "Everything this past month has been so hostile and all of my friends are so sour toward even the idea of Junhui." That name. His lip could have curled at the sound of that name, but he composed himself. He focused on the sparkling in her eyes, the way tears collected on her waterline and refused to fall. He drew in a deep breath before exhaling heavily. He scooted his chair closer toward the female, taking her by surprise.
His hands encased hers in his own, his thumbs gently stroking the back of her hands. She felt her stomach tighten at the action. "How do you feel about him, Sunny?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. Her eyes met his and stayed there, taking in the deep warmth of his brown eyes. "Honestly?" He nodded at her words, but was he prepared for the truth? Probably not. "I think I'm falling in love with him..." Definitely not. He restrained the sudden urge to flinch away. He only held her hands tighter, forcing a smile onto his plump lips. "Then, that's all we need to know to support you." A smile tugged at her lips at his words. "We just want the best for you and for you to be happy, okay?" She nodded, withdrawing her hands slowly before throwing her arms around Joon's neck.
He prayed she could feel the stutter in his heartbeat the moment her chest met his. He held onto her a moment too long, breathing in her scent. Little did he know that this was his last opportunity to hold her like this.
