ZenTrill POV

I carefully pulled the paint brush away from my older sister's face. It could've been better, but it'd been awhile since I'd last done face paint. Although I was done, I didn't move back, because she also was painting my face, and gently holding me still.
She pulled away then, and smiled as she let me go. "There."
"How do I look?" Nettle asked. I held up a mirror with one of my hands and picked up another with another of my hands. The dark purple stars she'd painted across my face brought out my red hair and lilac-colored eye. "I like it." We said, looking up at the same time, breaking out laughing seconds later. The sakura petals I'd painted across her skin brought out her indigo hair and pale blue eye.
"Then let's go!" I said. Nettle held up a hand. "I'm not all the way done yet, give me your left middle hand." Confused, I tilted my head, but obliged. She proceeded to paint a panda on the back of the hand. "Thanks." I said when she finished, holding it up. Then I thought I could return the gesture. "Here." I gently took her right middle arm and proceeded to paint a bamboo stalk onto her skin.
She giggled when she figured out what I was painting. "Thanks, li'l sis." She said. I smiled up at her, surprised when she put a hair clip in my hair. Nettle pulled my hand down when I reached up to touch it. "White lightning bolt. Now let's go!" She began to run to the door.
It was nice to see my sister so excited for something. She was usually so serious about everything. "Wait, your hair!" I called, reaching out to pull her back. Nettle turned, then touched her braid. "Oh, yeah, thanks."
I giggled softly, reaching up to un-braid my older sister's hair and brush it behind her shoulders. Then I noticed the scars on her neck and shoulders for the first time. When I touched them, she shuddered. "Should we cover these?" I asked.
Nettle shook her head, turning her head to look at me, a soft smile on her lips. "I'm proud of them. Like you are of yours." I touched my bottom right hand to my hip, and she nodded, then playfully bumped me with her shoulder. "Let's go."

We decided to leave our weapons inside the house as we left, walking down the decorated streets through town. The wind blew our hair behind us as we walked, a tangle of red and indigo. Mine hadn't been cut since I left for school, so it was a bit longer than my shoulders now, although nowhere nearly as long as hers.
I looked up at the sky, and stopped when I saw the clouds overhead. My sister looked up as well. Both of us really liked sights that took our breath away, and soothing things. It kept our minds away from the more stressful things in life. "Pretty..." Nettle whispered under her breath, and then chuckled at herself.
"Let's go to the sweet shop before they sell out." She said, leading me by the hand, her dusty rose colored dress flowing lightly in the wind, although not exposing anything because she was wearing dark leggings underneath.
It was the Spring Festival, and my sister was dragging me to a sweet shop. I wasn't surprised. As long as we went to see the pond, I was content. It was our tradition, to take the walk through the forest to see the pond. Every year we'd meet up for the Spring Festival and the Winter Festival, no matter where we were. Sometimes we could make it to the Autumn Festival, but even if we could, we didn't meet up for the Summer Festival.
"Hey NettleSplash, ZenTrill. You ladies look lovely today!" The shopkeeper, Fang, said, smiling as we walked into the small shop. "Thank you." I replied, smiling back and playfully curtsying. Nettle rolled her eyes at me and walked over to the shelves, looking around. I walked to the other side of the store, gently taking the honey cookies and walking over to the counter. Someone else walked into the shop behind us, a falconyn. I didn't mind as I waiting for my sister as she brought over a few packs of candies.
"So the usual, huh?" Fang asked, chuckling. I was about to hand him the 15 shells we owed him, but Nettle paid for me. "My treat, li'l sis." I shrugged. "So are you two pretty ladies going to the Spring dance tonight?" Fang asked as he took my older sister's money and handed us back our products. "We are." Nettle said. "Can I trust you'll be there?" I asked. Fang nodded, flashing his signature smile as we left.
"He was totally flirting with you." Nettle said as we walked back into the street. With her bottom left hand, she held my bottom right hand, and held her packages in her middle set of arms, while proceeding to eat a few candies with her top set of hands. "You say that every time we come here."
"And every time he asks you to the dance."
I playfully elbowed her in the arm, and she giggled. "Pond?" I asked. "Yeah, let's go." Nettle said. I giggled this time, and skipped ahead, leading her through the busy crowd of creatures mulling around in the streets, entering and exiting shops, and talking to one another. There were other soulflips, falconyns, Humans, Elves, devrons, werewolves, draphs, and dracos. I even spotted a few angels and a warkyll once or twice. All out to celebrate the coming of Spring and see the quillflower trees in full bloom.

We got to the pond, and I stopped walking. Nettle noticed what I was looking at less then a millisecond later, and stopped too. On the other side of the water, a deer stood, quietly among the falling quillflower petals and ashberry bushes.
It caught sight of us, and then ran. "It was pretty while it was there." Nettle said, walking along the path beside the pond and sitting on the bench. "Yeah." I said, sitting beside her and crossing my legs, before taking a deep breath and closing my eyes.
There was a shift beside me, Nettle leaning heavily onto my shoulder. I knew immediately she had let her soul out, and then I heard soft singing, coming from both sides of me. My older sister was throwing her voice, and singing wordless melodies. Being the kind of person she was, I knew she was just helping me focus and calm down.
I let all six of my hands lay palm up, four beside me, and two resting on my thighs. I focused on my breathing, on keeping it even and steady.

A scream cut through the gentle night air, startling my sister and I from where we stood in the town's plaza. My heart raced, and I fell to the ground, holding my head as others around us began panicking. I saw flames, death, and pain. I was thrown back to that dreadful day. The day I earned the burns on my hip and back. The day I knew what true sadness and despair felt like.
Even as everything died down, I stayed down, shivering. Three soft hands touched my back, and I looked up at my sister. Her face was serious, but afraid. She'd been there that day. How did it not affect her like it affected me?
I let her middle hand grasp mine, and she pulled me up. The hairclip I'd had in my hair had fallen out, and she picked it up, putting it back in place. "It's fine. False alarm." Nettle said. She was trying to hide the waver in her voice, but I could hear it.
"Hey, are you okay? I saw you collapse." Fang said. "Oh, um, yeah. Fine. Just...dizzy." I lied. Neither Nettle or I ever spoke of our experiences all those years ago. It was the unspoken agreement of all the survivors of that tragedy. "Um...sure. Do you want any water? I can get some for you." I shook my head.
Fang blinked. "Okay, well, you tell me if you need anything alright? And thank you, young maiden, for allowing me to dance with you." He slipped back into his joking manner, and I giggled softly, trying to put the old memories from my mind. The sound came out more strangled then I meant.
"You're welcome." I replied, nodding. Nettle put her top two hands on my shoulders. "Say, it's almost that time." She said. Fang I glanced up at the large clocktower, and nodded. "It is. And I look forward to meeting you on the dance floor."
As he walked away, I hugged all six of my arms around myself. "I don't know if I can do this, Nettle." I said. "You've done it before." She said encouragingly. "But I've never had flashbacks right before a dance. And...I don't...I don't want anyone else touching the..." My voice dropped to a whisper, "the burns."
Nettle hugged me. "Listen, I hate what happened back then as much as you do. But I don't think you should blow him off this year. After...what just happened, it might be good for you. However if anything happened, eject and come to me, your autopilot will do the rest." I nodded slowly. "And when we get back home, you can tell me all the flower facts you want and we can listen to EDM together and skip the second day of the Festival, okay?"
"Okay."
The clock tolled, and suddenly there were musicians playing. People got together to dance, and Fang found us again. "Now go." I took a deep breath and nodded, walking towards Fang slowly.
If I could just make it through the rest of the evening...
