Chapter Twenty-One: I Hope You Can Make It To My Funeral

"So," I said awkwardly, "That was fun."

Cody turned around and looked at me with his eyebrows raised.

I stayed silent and turned my head looking anywhere but him until I heard him laugh.

I smiled and turned around, "You do know that we're in a holding cell right?"

He chuckled, "I know."

Yes. We are in a holding cell. Apparently, the beach, yeah it wasn't all sandy. Right after the slope and the big land of sand, there was rocks. And instead of running, I rammed right into a bush and got stuck. So Cody tried to help but the guard came and well, you can almost put two and two together.

"We are waiting for our death!" I announced in a dramatic way and stood up going around the little cell.

"If you look at it, it's not that bad. I mean, I've never been in a cell and this is a very good experience."

Cody was silent.

"Hello?" I said turning around, "Earth to Cody."

He shook his head and looked at me.

There was benches in the cell. Well, only one. It was joined to the wall. Cody sat on the far left on the other side while I was standing on the far right looking outside the cell.

"I think their gonna call our parents," he said quietly.

"Yeah, I know," I responded in the same manner, "Just so you know, I had a really great time."

He looked up at me and smiled, "I did too."

I smiled back at him and held his gaze. His cute brown eyes were so light. I've never really had a thing for brown eyes, but he makes brown eyes look so much hotter.

"Yo," we both snapped out of our little moment and turned towards the guard that was now opening the cell, "Your pick ups are here. Don't do anything stupid again. Especially you Baker. Lucky for you and daddy's not in town."

I frowned confused and looked at Cody who just clenched his jaw standing up. The guard pulled the cell open and we both went out. Once I stood outside I saw my mom standing there with folded arms.

"I am so dead," I said to myself.

I heard Cody chuckle and I elbow him only for him to laugh more.

From afar my mom decides to yell, "Page Parie Agnes Edison!" She looked like those cartoons where their eyes are red, smoke coming out of their ear and everything.

My eyes widened and I turn around to Cody who's laughing at me.

"Jesus. "

"Any last words?" He asks through laughs.

"Page!" I heard my mom yell again only this time, I swear the whole police department turned around to look at us.

My eyes felt like they were going to pop out. I turned and looked at Cody with a scared face, "It was nice knowing you Cody Baker. I hope you can make it to my funeral."

He stops laughing and looks at me. I don't say anything, instead I just spin on my heel and walk to my mom.

"Hey mom. What's up? Fancy seeing you here don't you think? " I say jokingly and give a little laugh as I walk over to her slowly and carefully.

Trust me, careful is a need in this.

"What is this?" She asked as soon as I went to her.

I sighed and hung my head, "I'm sorry. I promise it's not what it looks like."

"Oh really? Me finding you at a police station in a holding cell?" she folded her arms.

"Okay maybe it is what it looks like." I stated dryly.

"No shit Sherlock," she raised her eyebrows and looked at me.

Take me now.

"I can explain, I'm sorry. "

"Explain what? What could you possibly explain. As far as I can tell everything is already explain. You can't possibly explain that I get a call from the police asking if Page Edison is my daughter and that I need to pick her up from a holding cell down town because apparently she's a criminal crossing private property?" She asked looking furious.

"Okay. Maybe I can't explain," I say quietly and look anywhere but her.

Trust me, a mad mothers stare can burn you faster than super mans' lazar.

"Why do you look like you rolled around in dirt. You're so dirty! I can't even make out your blonde hair! It's covered in dirt Page! When we get back, you're taking a really long shower until you literally are sparkly clean! You hear me child," she came near me holding up a strand of my hair and looking at it in disgust.

"God it's a living nightmare, " she comments and starts dusting the top of my head as I see dirt falling down. "You literally took getting down and dirty into whole new level."

"Jesus mom, what? "

"Did you roll around in dirt?" she asked and took a step back to examine me from head to toe.

I sighed, "Actually I did roll around in dirt. "

"I can't even, " she waved it off looking at me.

"I'm sorry, " I said shamefully putting my head down.

She sighed, "Page, you were supposed to help me prepare dinner for us. Remember, the Princes were invited."

"Mom, I'm sorry."

"You're grounded for two weeks!"

"What?" I ask in horror, "Mom-"

"Make that three!" She said again looking at me.

"Mom c'mon! You-"

"Can't say four? Oh look. Congratulations, four weeks!"

I open my mouth to speak but then close it again. Best not to say anything else.

"What were you even doing on this side of town with a boy? With a boy Page!"

I shook my head. "It's just Cody. He's kinda like my friend. At least that's what I think."

She raised her eye brows.

"Just a friend ma, I promise, " I say quietly.

She folded her arms, "Okay. So where is this friend? Did he ditch you? Did he leave you when the police found you huh? Did you two do something else? Did he take advantage of you? Because if he did I'll be plucking grapes and he won't be having kids for the rest of his life!"

"Jesus mom he didn't! Ugh! He's right over there," I pointed behind her and started rubbing my temple.

I sometimes question myself if she's really my mom. Poor Cody. He's probably a dead man in my moms head right now.

She turned around and looked at Cody who was now standing with another person, the two of them were too busy conversing to notice that my mom and I were staring. The guy looked a lot like Cody only a little more matured version but he looked around our age. He was most definitely our age. Probably his dad, who knows. Rich people often look super young nowadays.

It's money people, money.

The guy had blonde hair also like Cody's only a lot more blonde. The type of blonde that looked super unreal. I mean Cody's was a little mixture of brown. Mine was dark blonde. His blonde could make a blinded man even more blind. It could put Neptunes bold head to shame.

I have no idea why I'm talking about Neptunes bold head right now. I don't even know.

Back to the insanely good looking guy; his eyes however, were different. His eyes were an electric blue. Obviously, the guy was very attractive. He had that aura around him, like he was a magnet to girls type of aura. Kind of like Cody's. The guy was wearing skinny jeans with a gray inner shirt topped off with a signature leather jacket.

Has style no doubt. Like Cody.

Why do I keep saying that?

He didn't look like he was upset at Cody. In fact they both were smiling and nudging each other.

"That's John Baker," my mom stated craning her head to look at the two of them.

Wow mom, real stealthy.

"Yeah, I know. And that's Cody Baker," I sighed and folded my arm.

"Wait. Cody as in Cody Baker?" My mom said turning around to look at me.

"Ah, yeah. How do you know him?" I asked confused.

"The Cody Baker? As in the kid who's next in line to getting the Baker family money and inheritance of the Baker business? "

"Okay what? " I blinked confused. How the hell did I not know this.

Wow, I definitely have my blonde moments don't I?

"That's Cody Baker. "

"Mom you've met him. The night he brought me home from when I almost got Kidd napped on the way home from that stupid part- date. The date."

"You never told me his last name was Baker!"

"What's the big deal?"

She held me by the shoulders and turned me around, "Page, The Bake Gala that I am currently providing catering for. That huge company and enormous building that I work in. Yeah, that's Humphrey Bakers building. Cody Bakers dad."

My eyes widened. I didn't know who owned the building. I only knew that it was this huge company. Their family is so loaded. No ones really seen the owner of the company. He either send his agents to his meeting and conferences. If its really important, that's the only time the man himself will appear.

"As in-"

My mom nodded her head, "Cody is the only boy from his dad. The company money inheritance and everything will be his on his eighteenth birthday. It's the big thing that's going to happen next month. "

I shook my head trying not to think too much and looked at my mom. "Is that his dad?"

I nodded towards Cody and the boy who were still busy talking. They didn't look serious though. They looked more like they were catching up. Once in a while Cody would laugh and give him a playful shove and he'd return the gesture.

I noticed how dirty Cody looked. His blonde hair was covered in dirt along with his white shirt. Though he still looked real good. How do people pull off those type of things while I look like freaking Shrek only uglier!

My mom turned around looked at the two behind us, "No. That's his older cousin John Baker. His dad's also a big investor down in Europe. They have a huge company in London. He's also getting his dads business when he goes back. He's already 18."

"Woah," I said wide eyed.

Why do I feel like I've been living under a rock all these years? How do I not know these things? I seriously really need to get out more. In fact, I'm going to go back home and give myself a good talk about my life. Either if I'm living it or wasting it.

I turned around and looked back at Cody, just then the two of them walked by making the both my mom and I turn into statues. As they passed Cody stopped and came to me.

"I'm really sorry I got you in trouble," he said slowly scratching his head.

I felt my mom go really stiff beside me.

I didn't speak. I was just looking at him with wide eyes. I probably looked stupid.

I shook my head and looked at Cody like I just realized he was talking to me, "Oh you meant me?"

He rolled his eyes and shook his head, "No I was talking to myself."

I gave a little laugh, "It's alright. It was kinda fun."

He put his hand inside his back pocket and removed something, "Ah..here's your phone. You dropped it when you hopped down the motorcycle."

I took it and smiled, "Thanks. I didn't even feel anything."

"Guess you were just over excited."

I chuckled.

The guy behind Cody, who I just came to know was John, nudged Cody from the back.

"Aren't you gonna introduce me to these beautiful ladies?"

Cody sighed, "Page this is my cousin John. John this is Page."

"I'm his older cousin, "He held out his hand and I shook it smiling,

"Only by a month," Cody scoffed.

"Still older," John smirked.

"Whatever."

"Oh and this is my mom, Barbara Edison," I said motioning to my mom who was standing there like a statue.

Cody smiled and shook hands with my mom. John looked at her and smiled, "Barbara Edison?"

My mom smiled and nodded her head, "That's me."

"You're the one who provides catering for my uncle?"

"Yes, that's me. "

He took her hand and shook it smiling politely, "I absolutely love your cookies."

My mom laughed and shook his hand.

"Okay, um were gonna go. You guys will be okay?" Cody asked looking at me.

I nodded and smiled. They said bye and then walked out of the police station.

I turned around and looked at my mom, "Did you hear that? I told you that your cookies were amazing! John loves your cookies!"

She smiled and looked after them. When her eyes came back and landed on me, the smile vanished, "You're still grounded for four weeks."

I cursed, "Damn it, I thought that would work."

"Yeah well it didn't. "

-

Before we arrived at home, we had to go back to Starbucks to grab my car that I left. Only the problem was, we found out that my car was towed. Great, another fun time.

My mom told me that I could grab my car tomorrow and that she'd help me out with a few cash to get it back.

The dinner was moved to tomorrow. It keeps getting juicier and juicier. The school called the house and told my mom that I wasn't in school for the whole day which made the grounding a double check. Though missing out on school didn't affect my grades because I had a way higher GPA and for it to get affected, I had to be like....Aldan. Speaking of which, he didn't make it to the dinner either. The school also called his mom and told her that he wasn't in school periods six, seven and eight then later in the night, he arrived at his house really drunk with Eugene and Usher.

Wow. What a day.

After I had a major scrub down in the shower and washed all the dirt in my hair out, I went into my room and fell on my bed sighing. I finally asked for blankets from my mom and she gave me dozens. Even though that stranger that came to my window last Thursday nineteen chapters ago and broke my blankets and most probably stole my favorite shoe, I still managed to make it through those cold nights.

I'm a super hero.

"Well, I'm grounded. Yay," I said to no one in particular as I laid on my bed and looked up at my ceiling.

It's psychologically proven that talking to yourself makes you 85% smarter because it makes your brain thinks. So don't say idiots talk to themselves.

My eyes were falling and getting droopy until I heard a ding from my phone. With my eyes closed, my hand flew towards the lamp table beside my bed and grabbed my phone.

It was a text from an unknown number. I frowned and opened the message;

Night.

I didn't hesitate to text the person back.

And you are?

The reply came back immediately.

Someone who can actually tie knots like the navy. Unlike you.

And then it hit me.

Anyway, back to the story.... Any thoughts?
