Epilogue
A/N
Thanks for reading. This was a more simple story so I hope it wasn't boring at times.
Enjoy <3

He fell back on the couch with a huff, holding the phone up above his face. He grinned. "Hi."
On the other side of the screen, Nya laughed. "Hey. Where's Wisp?"
He turned his phone the other way, pointing it at Wisp spread out across the floor. She didn't recognise Nya's voice, simply yawning and rolling over.
Jay narrowed his eyes, turning the camera back to him. She was wearing headphones, engulfing her nose and mouth in his red scarf, as well as a beanie with cat ears on it (a gift she wasn't quite thrilled about at first). Six months later she hadn't changed a bit. And he was glad.
"I called you an hour ago, what is it now?" she said. He could see her smile even through the scarf.
"Nothin'." He shrugged. "Just wanted to see when the train leaves."
"Don't you have work to do?"
"Zane helped me get the day off today."
"What happened to your 'dream job'?" she teased. "Or did you do it for any other reason?"
"Hey, even I need a break from BorgCorp. No reason in particular."
Before she could press him further, someone else jumped into the frame. Cole wrapped his arm around Jay's neck, ruffling his hair. "Hey, Nya."
Jay pushed him away. "Ow, dude!"
She laughed. "Hey, Cole."
He furrowed his bushy brows, almost overtaking Jay in the frame. "You know, I'm so glad you're coming back. If I have to hear him be all mushy-mushy at 2AM on the phone I'll take Wisp and move out."
"She was working the night shift!" Jay exclaimed.
But Nya only rolled her eyes, shooting Cole a glare. "I'm just glad to be out of Stiix. You get used to the air after a while, but... I prefer the City. And Ignacia a little more."
He opened his mouth to speak when a loud, blaring horn echoed over the phone. Jay had to turn his volume down.
They couldn't hear her quite well, but they guessed it was the train. So, she waved them goodbye, and they did the same. The call ended, and Jay jumped up from the sofa. The butterflies in his stomach were about to burst out from excitement, and he hurried to get Wisp's leash.
"I know you're a thing now but even you seem too eager," said Cole, sitting on the floor to pet Wisp.
Jay's expression turned smug. "Hoho, this is where you are wrong. I have some other stuff planned for today."
"Let me guess, a date?"
His cheeks puffed and his face reddened, but Cole retained his smirk. Jay clenched his fists, then sighed.
"Yes, a date. But not any date! A surprise date!" he said. "And... Well, it might be a special date since we haven't really had our first kiss yet and everyone knows that a romantic atmosphere, consent, and chapstick is all you need!" He stopped himself from talking that time. He couldn't tell whether it was his nerves or eagerness.
Cole got off the floor. "Wait, seriously? You went there for an entire weekend, I assumed you did something."
"We just wanted to preserve it for a special moment. Like today! I need to show you my plans."
He looked at the time on his phone. "I mean, I'm leaving for work in an hour, but... Alright, be quick."
He ran to get his laptop. When they both settled, squeezed against each other on the small couch, another thought popped into Cole's mind. He shifted to face Jay, his gaze curious yet mischievous.
"Isn't Kai also bringing their parents from Ignacia? What, will you go on your date and leave them there?"
"Are you kidding, no! I'm just going there as 'Kai's friend'. Then, we'll go on our date... And slowly, very slowly, she can introduce them to me," he said. He waved his hand dismissively. "I think Lloyd might have mentioned something to them once, but I doubt they remember it."
"Are you taking Wisp?"
"Duh! Of course!"
"Okay, okay. Show my your plans."
When he noticed the exactly thirty bookmarked pages on his screen, he sighed. He looked at Wisp, and yawned with her.

He tapped his foot on the ground impatiently. Of course it was raining! Well, drizzling, but same thing! He furiously checked the weather app on his phone, wrapping the orange scarf tighter around his neck. He leaned against the wall in defeat, leaning down to pet Wisp. At the very least she was behaving for once.
A thud echoed when a bag of chips slammed at the bottom of the vending machine, however it was too far away to reach.
Lloyd groaned. "You've gotta be kidding me."
But Kai stepped over to his side, patting his shoulder reassuringly. "Watch how the pros do it, young one," he said, imitating Wu's voice. They were glad he wasn't there to hear it. He cracked his knuckles, made sure no one was looking... And kicked the vending machine.
At once, the packet of chips fell, and they celebrated.
"Kai, behave!" His mother's voice sent chills down everyone's spine. His father's glare even more.
Ah, the Smiths, Ray and Maya. He could see where the Smith siblings had gotten their stubbornness from. Kai was a mix of both, but Nya surely was a spitting image of her mother, save for a few details. He wanted to properly chat with them after the reveal in case something accidentally slipped. So, for now, he kept himself hidden away from their gaze, staying in the background until the train arrived.
He tried to avoid eye contact, but he felt their father's gaze on him. "Say, Jay how do you know Nya?" he asked.
Jay choked on his own breath, trying not to let it show. His face paled, but he chalked it up to the cold. "Uh... Through Kai."
"I mean, you must be pretty close to be waiting for her here."
Kai intervened, luckily. "They're just acquaintances, dad. I told you, I brought him with him cause we're going to the arcade later."
Maya crossed her arms. "Don't you want to spend a little time with your sister first?"
"Of course I will! But come on, she'll start snoring the moment we hit the car."
Lloyd chuckled and even Jay stifled a smile, but his mother wasn't as amused.
"Easy, you two," Ray said. "The train should be here soon anyway. I want to assume none of you have ruined the surprise..."
And so Jay shrank into the background again, letting Kai and Lloyd enjoy their chips in peace.
A blaring horn jolted him up straight, and Wisp began to bark. The train bad already reached the platforms, and each wagon passed by like a bullet.
He didn't wait for the rest. He didn't enjoy the thought of explaining it to her parents later, but he sprinted towards the platforms, Wisp at his side and pulling him along with her leash.
People started exiting the train, but she was nowhere to be seen. He frantically looked left and right, spotting a familiar suitcase towards the first few wagons. He passed through the crowd, staying close to the wall as not to bump into anyone.
Just as she exited the door, their gazes locked. She gasped, and the brightest smile appeared on her face.
He opened his arms to greet her in a hug. She let go of her suitcase, letting it crash into the wall. But instead of a hug, she went for his lips.
He gasped under her touch, opening his eyes instinctively. He quickly closed them again, ignoring the his knees' will to buckle right then and there. He wrapped his arms around her as well. She took hold of his scarf and yanked him closer, and his hands found her waist. He was right, her lips were just as soft as he remembered them. And they felt even better atop his own lips than on his cheek. So much for the romantic date.
He was already breathless from running, so he was forced to break apart. Still, their smiles, their red faces, and their embrace remained.
And through it all, she laughed. "I should've known you would come!" she exclaimed, immediately reaching down to engulf Wisp in a hug.
"See, I know how to keep a secret! And I didn't come alone!"
His eyes widened, remembering just who he was with. He didn't want to turn his head away from her face; for one because he loved the view and for two because he knew what awaited him.
She looked over, blissfully unaware. He braced himself, watching her become a deer in headlights. She tapped his shoulder and he finally turned around as well.
Kai and Lloyd were undeniably amused at their embarrassment. Her parents not so much; their gazes were a mixture of confusion, betrayal, and joy. They didn't need to speak to send chills down their spines.
Nya pointed at her lips, nudging him. "You've got a little chapstick—"
He didn't even want to look. He tried to enjoy the moment best he could in blissful ignorance. He pursed his lips. "Don't mention it."
Kai and Lloyd couldn't hold it in anymore; they burst out laughing. And when her parents let out a few chuckles themselves, they sighed of relief.
