Chapter 2.

Legs stinging
Eyes twitching
Heart pulsing
It felt great to run for your life.
The bombs continued and my mindset was on the shelter.
The place where I prayed that I would find my family. "Amy! Come on!" But there was no answer. I risked turning around, finding any laying on the ground in the distance. Her chest was riding and falling, just like mine. "Amy!" She was tired. I knew it in the back of my mind. "Amy..." I said quietly. I started to speed towards her but a vibration in the terrain stopped me. I knew what it was and I knew I had to get Amy out of there. "Amy! Hurry! It's a bomb! You have to get-"

Bam!!

The noise pierced my ears and blew me backwards. The shock wave absorbed my body and made my heart skip a beat. My face rested against the glass. A thought of loss rushing around my brain. I looked up quickly, remembering where I was. The vast trees caving over me were ignited in flames. The fire threatened to burn me, claiming its new ground. I watched the orange beast lick the gray sky.

I have to keep moving.  I thought. So I did so. Turning around never seemed so natural. Almost like it was my instinct to run away like a coward.

I started to sprint again, watching the dry trees pass me by. "Bomb shelter. Bomb shelter. Bomb shelter." I repeated.

Just keep going. Run for your family!
I motivated myself.

"Bomb shelter. Bomb shelter. Bomb shel-" My words-as well as my movement-stopped to a halt. I fell on the itchy grass, using the heel of my hands to slow my fall. My mind spun around in circles until my vision finally calibrated. In front of me I found a human body. It was clothed in a plaid shirt with faded blue jeans; clothes we were never allowed to wear in public. We always had to wear our coordinated uniforms for different days. His eyes were dark brown and his chin held a stubble of hair. He looked young. In his twenties, maybe. "Wh-who are you?" I asked panicked. "Who are you?" He copied. I stared straight into his irises, not daring to break some sort of staring contest. "(Y/n)." I said quietly. He still glared at me, mouth closed. "Okay...it'll only be fair if you tell me your name now." I said sternly. "M-Mark." He stuttered. Why did he sound so nervous. We sat there on the grass just looking at each other. Until...

Boom!!

"We have to go!" Mark exclaimed.

We? I thought before I was pulled away from future danger.
