Chapter 1.
No one saw it coming. It was just another normal day. I hadn't planned on any detours because of an invasion.
I sat still in the locker rooms as explosions after explosions led to my ears. I slammed my eyes shut and held my hands to my ears. I didn't want to think about what was happening. I just wanted to wake up from this living nightmare.
"(Y/n)!" A voice shouted. I looked up to see Amy. One of my good friends at school. "Come on! We got to go!" The bangs outside almost drowned her sentence, but I obeyed and started to follow her.
Sharp turns after Sharp turns and we headed to the outside of the dome. The dome that was supposed to keep us safe.
Yeah right.
"Come on! We gotta get home!" She shouted. I looked around frantically, trying to find which direction home was in. I was shocked that I couldn't remember where my family was. "Uh...." I hesitated. "That way!" I pointed east, reassured that's the correction direction to go in.
Boom!
My heart stopped. What happened to the safe and sound place I used to live in.
My legs were burning, my face was tingling, and my breath were short. Amy sprinted behind me as she silently sobbed. I was scared, too. But I couldn't admit that now. I stopped and stared as I found my house. It just stood there still in its place. I sighed in relief as I realized my family was okay. I trotted inside and screamed, "Mom! Dad! We have to go!" But there was no answer.
No sound of footsteps coming down the stairs. No sound of my dog, Milo, barking in protest. Nothing. My heart raced faster than what it already was. "Mom? Dad!" But still nothing.
Boom!!
"(Y/n)! We have to go! They are probably already in the shelter! We can meet them there!" Amy shouted from outside. I nodded.
It's funny, really.
It's funny how I wanted to believe that so bad.
But there was still something dragging my heart down.
A feeling of lost hope.
A feeling where I would never see my family again.
