Homer Simpson #1
Requested by @Cobalt-CC-1043, thanks for requesting! Hope you like it.
It was Friday night. Ned's car was packed for the weekend and he was ready to go. Almost ready. Only problem was there was no one to look after Todd, as Edna was away on a weekend teachers course and Rod was staying with friends.
"Oh darn diddily, there's always something" Ned sighed as he racked his brains in hope of finding someone who could take care of the boy for the time being. His prayers were answered, but not in the way that he had expected. As he looked around, he noticed the Simpsons family out, and Homer was waving to Marge as she drove off with Maggie. Homer was about to leave for Moe's, when he was approached by his cheerful neighbours.
"Howdily doodily, neighbourino. Whatcha doing on this mighty fine night?" Ned asked with a smile, as cheery as ever, but Homer responded with a frown.
"I'm aout to go get wasted. I don't suppose YOU want in on the action?"
"Why, of course not!" He chuckled. "Actually I'm here to ask a favour of you"
"No" Homer replied bluntly as he got in the car and was about to drive off.
"You never even heard what i was about to say!"
"I'm pretty sure i don't want to either"
"It's just that I'm going away for the weekend and there's no one to look after little Todd, and you were the only person i could find on such short notice! Where's Marge?"
"She's visiting her...sisters" He shuddered at the thought of them. "Lisa's at her friend, Janey's and Barts with...uh...that weird kid he hangs out with"
"You mean Milhouse?"
"That's the one!"
"So...."
"Eh, sorry, but i can't"
"I'll give you money for a takeout so you don't have to cook?" Ned offered as he knew his neighbour couldn't resist the thought of food. Homer's eyes lit up and sparkled as he thought of it.
"Doh! Alright" Homer reluctantly took the money. "Where is the kid?"
"Oh, thanks, Homer! I knew you'd come through for me"
"Yeah, yeah" He rolled his eyes impatiently. "Come on, Todd"
Ned and Todd said their goodbyes and waved to each other as Ned drove off. Once he was gone, they both went inside, where Homer ordered pizza. Homer put on a movie and they both sat down on the sofa. It didn't take too long before the pizza arrived and in even less time they were both getting wired into the takeout dinner. Todd only had a few slices as he wasn't that hungry, and Homer was of course always hungry, so he ate the rest. About an hour had passed and they were both really getting into the film, when Todd decided he needed a bathroom break.
"Mr Simpson?' He croaked in his high voice.
"Mm?" Homer answered the child, his attention still with the characters on scree.
"I gotta go the bathroom"
"Oh, it's upstairs" He was still focused on the television.
"Thanks" He replied quickly and sped off upstairs. After he had used it, he hurried downstairs before he missed any more of the movie, but as he was making his way downstairs, he noticed a picture hanging up and decided to take a look at it. It was of an older woman who seemed to resemble Homer. He took the photo down and looked at it. He was taking a while and Homer was getting a little worried and so he came upstairs to see where Todd was.
"Todd? Don't you wanna see how the movie ends? Todd?" Homer looked confused as the boy sat there, holding the framed photo.
"Mr Simpson, who is this?" He asked, wide eyed and curious.
Homer grasped the photo and stared at it for a moment, not saying anything.
"Mr Simpson?:
"This" He signed as he sat down on the floor next to him. "Was my mother" he admitted as memories came flooding back.
"Was?" The boy looked saddened to hear him use a past tense.
"She's gone now"
"She was beautiful. I bet she's with my mommy now, with the angels"
A weak smile appeared on Homer's, but he then remembered about what happened to Maude.
"What happened to her?"
Homer explained the whole story to him, the sixties, how she had left him and came back and why, and how the hurt never went away, but how he still loved her.
"I'm sorry" he whispered.
"It's fine" Homer mumbled. "I'm sorry about what happened to your mother too, and about my part in it. I robbed two children of their mother! What sort of a monster am I?" He sobbed.
"It's okay, Mr Simpson, I forgive you" Todd smiled as he put his hand on Homer's shoulder and looked him in the eyes. Homer smiled back at him and gave him a hug which he happily returned. They both took a moment's silence to remember their mothers, before Homer finally spoke up.
"Come on! Let's go see how the movie ends! Race you downstairs!" He yelled and tumbled down the stairs. They put the movie back on, but little Todd fell asleep halfway through and lucky homer got to carry him to his her, before going to his bed himself.
"Yay!" Todd giggled and skipped to the living room.
They had a weekend filled with fun and laughter doing some wholesome activities, and other things Ned probably wouldn't approve of before the weekend was over. On Sunday night, they were sitting on the couch watching tv as they heard the sound of a car parking next door.
"Yay! Daddy's back!" Todd jumped up off the seat and ran to the door where Ned was to greet him with a hug.
"Todd! How are you diddily doing, son?" Ned said with a smile. "Oh, thank you so much, Homer! I appreciate it"
"He was no problem, Ned. And your pizza was Great! Mmm, pizza"
Ned left Homer as he was in a dreaming of food state right now, and went home to catch up with Todd about his weekend. Homer was a little sad to see him go, but he knew he needn't be sad as his own family were coming home tomorrow, but he'll never forget of this weekend.
