Chapter 14
Draco was out of breath as he ran down the ministry's halls. A protronus the shape of a grey wolf had appeared at his office and basically barked at him. The last time it had appeared in his office was when his wife had passed out mid trial- while pregnant with their second child.
All apparition to and from the ministry had been banned, a blanket ban that would hopefully prevent anymore unwanted persons coming or going too quickly. Everyone had to come and go via the designated entrances that were being overlooked by aurors for any suspicious persons or those acting out of the ordinary.
"Potter run faster." Draco barked at his former nemesis who was now his childrens' beloved uncle. Harry would've barked back that he wasn't even a full step behind Draco but his godson and namesake had called him on his mother's cellphone crying. Between the sobs, Harry had heard war sounded like Lyie, taken, bad people. So he said nothing to Draco. Instead Harry just focused ahead. The ministry's halls were vast but they'd never felt unending until today for the two men.
Willow Malfoy was the first to hear her father's footsteps. She peered around her mother and crying brother. To anyone else, Hermione Granger- Malfoy looked perfectly composed. Strong, intelligent, and unwavering but the two men's eyed widened because they'd never seen Hermione so ashen and devastated in their lives.
Draco looked frantically around as he saw that Hermione was carrying their sobbing son while their youngest daughter stood solemnly between Hermione and Blaise, whose protronus had warned Draco; Willow's fist clenched the folds of Hermione's cream dress pants.
"Lyie," Harry Scorpious Malfoy still sobbed in his mother's arms, his childhood pronunciation of his eldest sister's name making a reappearance in his distraught.
"Where's Lyra?" Draco asked, or more accurately yelled upon realizing that his eldest was nowhere to be seen. Several people took a step back at the anger in Draco Malfoy'stone.
"Draco, she, she was," Blaise said, "She was taken."
And like that Draco's world felt like as if it'd just collapsed in of itself. His knees weakened. A second later he fell to his knees as the voices of concern around him began to blur together. "She was taken" rang in his ears over and over again while his eyes glazed over.
"Daddy!" Willow cried as she ran to her dad, who was always so strong... if one didn't take into account colds and needles. She cried his name five more times before Draco began to respond being shaken out of his revere. "Willow," he whispered as his youngest finally began to cry now too. Having tried to be strong for as long as she could for her brother and Mum. But seeing her Dad fall apart too, she could no longer hold it in and began to wail loudly, acting all of her tender three years.
Draco began to stroke her hair as he picked her up. However upon handing her to Harry Potter, eyebrows rose until Draco Malfoy charged at Westin Bidley and another auror who were tasked with protecting this section of the ministry permanently. He grabbed Westin by the guy's collar, Draco's eyes like the sky of an approaching thunderstorm. "What the bloody fuck were you incompetent sorry excuses of aurors doing when those assholes took my daughter!" He screamed, almost spitting on the very frightened auror.
Before Harry Potter could yell at Draco Malfoy for mandhandling one of his aurors, Hermione almost eerily asked her husband in a calm tone to let go of the auror.
Draco basically dropped the auror as he stared back at is wife whose shock seemed to have worn off. It also seemed that his son was also done crying upon hearing his father curse.
"I need you to take Harry and Willow home." She asked as she put Harry Scorpious Malfoy back down. "They're going to need you to be their father right now." Then she turned to Blaise. "Blaise go to St. Mungo's and see your wife. If it's okay with you, Sabine can stay with Draco and the kids. When you're done, I'd like you to meet me in the judiciary archives, near Deveroix files. I need to check something."
Draco opened his mouth to object, but his wife knew him well enough to respond without him saying anything.
"Draco you need to be their father and my husband right now." Hermione began. "Because right now my job is top priority so we can find out why our daughter was taken and be one step ahead of our enemies instead of behind."
Draco nodded as he solemnly held his children again. He would ask no questions. When he said his vows to his wife all those years ago, he'd agreed and understood that sometimes he would have to step up to the plate as parent. His wife was never meant to be tamed and domesticated. She was meant for much more, to shake and change the world, to help it become a better one by protecting those that people would never fight for, take a second glance at.
Blaise stared at the man that his once immature and quite spoiled best friend, had become. He wanted to smile for him and be his usual optimistic self but currently his wife and partner was n the hospital due to a new nightmare blinding curse that had only been heard of in whispers, in the shadows. It was the newest and soon to be forbidden curse as wrong as cruciatus, maybe even worse one could argue. It left its victims in a paralyzing state of endless nightmares, leaving them blind even when they tried to open their eyes, they could see nothing but their nightmares, unable to escape. Only four people had thus far been inflicted with the curse, but none had been cured yet. Their minds deteriorating day by day as the nightmares inflicted on them endlessly. And now his Luna was under its dark spell. He quietly nodded his head at the three of them and made his way to one of the designated exits. He did not say another word to the aurors on guard as he took the portal that would get him closest to St. Mungos.
"Hello cuare mio." Blaise whispered, calling his only child, his heart in Italian, as his mother once called him, when she'd still had love in her heart. Sabine turned around, red eyed and puffy. With no hesitation, she threw herself at her father, burrowing her face into the crook of his neck, holding tightly.
"Desolato, cuare mio." He apologized quietly as he rubbed her back soothingly.
"Papa," Sabine whispered. "Mama's not waking up, and, and." She said desperately but was unable to finish because she really had no idea what to say or what was going on.
"I promise, I will do anything to make sure she wakes up." Blaise promised fervently. "But, do you want to stay with Harry, Draco, and Willow tonight?" Blaise asked more softly this time. Sabine's soft tendrils touched his arms as she shook her head.
"Stay here with you and Mama." Sabine said.
Blaise placed a kiss on the top of head as her almost aquamarine eyes began to tear up. "I need to do something tonight and I don't want out staying here by yourself."
"But I have Mama," Sabine whispered even though she already knew.
"This is no place to spend the night by yourself and you need rest. It has been a long day for you." Blaise said stroking her head, he hummed and faintly sang an Italian lullaby that was one of the few things he could remember of his biological father. "If anything were to happen to you too cuare mio, the world will burn down in flames by my hands." He said as Sabine's sleepy head rested on his chest.
Draco tenderly took a sleeping Sabine from Blaise's arms. The two only nodded to each other before Blaise left to floo directly to Hermione's office. Anna had already gone home for the night, as did most of the other's in the ministry. It seemed it was only him, Ken, Harry Potter, and Hermione Granger left.
Documentation of the Deveroix trial as well as the evidence from the closed file of Maria Young and the death of her three year old son, Sacha Young. In that pile was now the scroll that documented today's event.
"What do they all have in common?" Hermione asked the three men, needing to know if they saw what she did.
Blaise read everything they had carefully once more because he hated to say anything that was not backed with one hundred percent certainty. There was a link but what... a man, a woman and her child, and now his god daughter. His eyes widened as he realized why Hermione looked so grim.
"Death Eater." Ken whispered as he too saw the connection at last. He just hate that it had to take three events for them to see the pattern. August Deveroix had been a Death Eater, so had Kasia Young, and Draco Malfoy...
"No, not just." Harry seethed.
"Blood traitors." Blaise whispered harshly as he began to realize that his wife's curse had not just been a ploy to kidnap Lyra Malfoy, it had been a punishment aimed at him.
August Deveroix had not been an impressively powerful or impactful Death Eater and he had been trying to redeem himself since the war in every way possible anyway. Kasia Maria Young, nee Villiers had left the wizarding world altogether after hanging up her Death Eater status and ended up marrying a muggle and having a half-blood child. Then there was Draco. Draco Malfoy had denounced his father, his many blood thirsty relatives, Voldemort himself, not to mention that he'd married Hermione Granger, and dared to have three additional half-blood children. As for Blaise, he'd never been a death eater but he'd been in their circle, and as an outsider they'd left him alone. But he now aligned himself to protect those that death eaters had once deemed unworthy.
"Hermione?" Harry asked in concern as Hermione began to silently cry.
"My daughter has been taken by Neo-Death Eaters, who would've probably taken Harry and Willow too if they had not been hiding in pillows." She said somehow a sob and a laugh mingled together as she said this. "And now I have to tell my husband that his greatest fear has come true. That his past would come back to haunt us, to affect our family. Because these bastards took our oldest daughter to castigate my husband. This will completely crush Draco." Her voice said, full of sorrow.
