21. Compromise

Present

So, I heard Hunter out. He told me that he didn't want me knowing his real name because he didn't want it to accidentally slip out of my mouth around the wrong person, because that would be more than bad. His past was his weakness, I knew that, and if someone knew his real identity, that would mean they had control over him.

As for my parents...he found a way to apologize about it. He told me that they were the ones who tortured him before the particle accelerator exploded, and that was hard to believe. I never really knew what my parents did as an occupation, but I knew they were doctors of some sort. After he told me that they tortured him, I couldn't see them hurting anyone, but at this point in my life, I wasn't sure about anything anymore. I trusted Hunter...I knew that much.

I was upset that he didn't tell me that my parents were dead all of this time, but he justified that with his own past. He said he wanted to give me false hope so that I didn't turn out as dark and cold like he did...he didn't want to give me a repeat of his own childhood. I understood that, but what I didn't understand was why he had to kill my parents. I knew Hunter better than anyone, and I knew why he did, but I couldn't get it through my head why he had to.

After he told me everything, I forgave him. Hunter was one of the last people in my life that believed in me and trusted me, so I couldn't lose him. Besides, if I didn't forgive him and did lose him, what would I be? I wasn't anyone without Hunter Zolomon; without Zoom.

Now here I was, racing along side Hunter, now wearing my original Silver Trickster costume. We had already jumped through the breech, and we were now on our way to S.T.A.R. Labs to meet up with Barry. Wally was in Hunter's grasp as we ran, going to get Barry's speed. I couldn't decide what I thought about the idea; I didn't want Barry to lose his speed, but I also didn't want to lose Hunter. Him getting Barry's speed was the only way he would live...I just wished that there was another way.

The sudden urge to turn around fills my gut when I see S.T.A.R. Labs off in the distance, but no way in hell was I going to. I had to see how all of this was going to play out and if Barry was okay...I knew he was going to be mad at me and more than likely hate me, but I needed to know. I needed to see him.

We finally reach S.T.A.R. Labs in a matter of seconds as I follow Hunter up to the second floor where the main area was where they talked about everything. My heart pumps in my chest when I suddenly stop, looking around to find everyone staring at me. There was Joe, Iris, Wells, Caitlin, Cisco, and finally, Barry. Our eyes connect for a split second, but then Hunter was speaking, causing his eyes to leave me. I could see that he was okay; his leg was healed already.

"Glad to see you again, Allen," he hisses in that menacing voice of his. I was used to it by now.

Barry looks over at Wally. "My speed for Wally, that's the deal."

Wally's eyes are wide. I was positive that he was confused as hell about what was going on; I mean, here he was, standing in S.T.A.R. Labs with The Flash and his family, in the hands of a villain. Not to mention that I was on the villains side. I almost felt sorry for the kid.

Hunter stares at Barry for a long moment before releasing Wally, causing Iris and Joe to lower their guns. Joe points at the door as he looks at Wally. "Go home, Wally. Get out of here."

"I don't understand," he breathes as Iris rushes to him, leading him towards the door. "What is going on-"

"We'll explain everything later," Iris speaks out before handing him the gun in her hands, directing him to leave.

I could tell that Hunter was losing his patience. "Let's get this show on the road."

"This thing is how I stole The Flash's speed the first time. Now all he needs to do is run and his speed force will be transferred to this vial, but only as long as I calibrate it," Wells speaks as he shows up the objects in his hands.

I cross my arms as I lean up against the wall, letting Hunter handle this situation. It wasn't like I knew what to say anyways. "Better get to work then."

Wells points his gun in Hunter's face as I push myself off the wall, letting the electricity inside of me dance across my skin to show that I wouldn't tolerate his actions. Wells' eyes connect with mine before he lowers the gun, shaking his head. "One day i'll wipe that smug expression clear off your face."

My eyes follow Wells as he leaves the room, taking the gun and the vials with him. I take my position back against the wall as Barry sits on the edge of a table, gulping before speaking. "So this was your plan all along?"

His eyes meet mine once again, giving me a look of hopelessness and betrayal. I could tell he hated me, and I wanted to tell him how I sorry I was for all of this, but I couldn't. I wasn't going to let Hunter know that I had fallen for him; he'd kill me and Barry both. I had to play my part and be the stone-cold bitch that I was raised to be.

"Ever since the skies parted and showed me another world," Hunter says, a little too much pep in his voice. "Once I came here and saw you, I figured out what I had to do."

"How are you still alive?" Iris asks, glaring over at Hunter. "We watched you die."

I decided to answer that question for Iris. "He knew that he couldn't be on two earth's at the same time. So, he went back in time and met another version of himself."

"A time remnant," Cisco breathes. "Just like the reverse flash."

"I also knew the only way to make Barry become faster was if you all witnessed your good o'l pal Jay die at the hands of a monster," Hunter laughs as I think back to the moment, remembering how odd it was to see the man I cared about die in front of me.

Joe shakes his head. "Why the costume? Why run around dressed up like The Flash?"

"Why, to give people false hope, Detective," Hunter says coldly, a small smirk dancing across his lips. "Just so I can rip it away from them. It's so fun pretending to be a hero. Ask Raven, she enjoys it too."

Everyone's eyes land on me as I cock my head, making a dark smile form on my lips. It usually wasn't hard to do such an action, but around these people...it was harder than I had thought it would be.

"Why send her here?" Cisco asks one last question, utter hatred in his eyes too. "You already had your time remnant; why her too?"

"Well, after I decided that I needed to kill myself so that it would motivate Barry to run faster, I needed eyes on the other side. While all of you were running around trying to reopen the breeches and get faster, Raven was finding weaknesses," Hunter smiles as he looks over his shoulder at me. "Plus, it's always more fun when two people you used to trust aren't who they said they were."

Caitlin finally decides to speak with tears in her eyes. "Neither of you are heroes. You're nothing but monsters."

I narrow my eyes at her before Wells walks back into the room, holding the vials in his hands. "It's ready."

Hunter rubs his hands together as I push myself up off the wall, still unsure if this was something I wanted to witness. "Let's get going then."

I watch Barry closely as he slowly pushes himself off the table, head cowering as he made his way towards the treadmill that was behind the glass window. My heart aches as everyone watches him with such despair; knowing that Barry losing his speed was one of the worst things that could happen to someone like him. He didn't deserve it.

I speak before I can stop myself. "Wells, what if you could find a way to give my powers to Hunter?"

Hunter turns and looks at me with a confused expression, along with everyone else. Wells furrows his eyebrows. "What are you talking about?"

"I can borrow speed with just a simple touch," I say slowly. "Is there a way you could give that to Hunter instead of...doing this?"

Hunter shakes his head. "There's no time for that-"

"Yes there is," I say, desperate at this point for Hunter to listen to me. "Think about it; if you had my ability, you wouldn't ever have to worry about stealing someone's speed again. It would be an endless supply."

He stares at me for a long moment, and I couldn't tell what he was thinking. It looked like he was either considering what I was saying, or he was sensing that something else was up. I notice Barry staring at me through the glass, finally a little bit of hope in his eyes. However, Hunter shakes his head after a long moment, not agreeing to what I was saying.

"I need his speed now," he hisses, not towards me, but towards Wells. Hunter walks up to the glass as Barry glares at him, saying lowly with a grin on his face,"Run, Barry. Run."

My heart clenches as Barry turns the treadmill on, gulping before running at a slow pace. I clench my fists as I watch Barry run faster and faster, the vial sitting on the table being filled with the speed force with every passing second. I wanted to snatch the vial off of the table and return it back to Barry, but I couldn't. Hunter was right...he needed the speed or else he would die.

It doesn't take long before Barry starts to slow down and the vial was filled with his speed force. I watch Barry as he falls to the ground, out of breath, as I step forwards, wanting to rush to his side and help, but I couldn't. While everyone else goes to rush to Barry's side, I see Hunter snag the vial from off the table and inject it into his arm, lightning already starting to dance across his skin.

I watch with eyes wide as he laughs, darkness flooding his eyes. Deep down, I told myself that this was a good thing; that Hunter would live longer and be stronger, but I couldn't get Barry off of my mind. Just then, after he takes Barry's speed, he dashes into the other room and rips Barry from off the floor, pinning him against the wall by his neck.

"Thank you, Flash!" he screams, a sinister smile on his face. I rush into the room as well, noticing the tears and pain in Barry's eyes. I hated it.

"Jay, stop!" Caitlin screams as Wells pulls his gun out, holding it towards Hunter. I just watch with heartache. "If anything you said to me was true, or anything that we ever shared, please, let him go. I'm begging you. I know some piece of you did care for me, so if you have any humanity left, then please let him go."

Hunter looks over his shoulder at me before throwing Barry to the side, letting his hands catch himself. He coughs and spits before I look back over at Hunter, seeing him staring at Caitlin. I knew then what he was planning, and I wasn't sure if it was the best thing to do. However, I didn't really have much of a say before he dashes forwards and grabs Caitlin, leaving S.T.A.R. labs.

"Caitlin!" Cisco screams, but I wasn't leaving just yet.

They all turn to me then, wondering why I hadn't left. "He won't hurt her. I-I'll make this right. I'm sorry."

I ran before I could let them say anything else.
