᯾Never᯾

Legolas stood in the courtyard.
Aragorn should be there every moment.
Gandalf waited. He held the crown, wich only the people of the Dunedain ever wore.
Legolas held back a sigh, knowing that Aragorn, if he had the choice, would have never took over the throne. He wanted to go on adventures with him and Gimli, Legolas thought.
And the look Aragorn had on his face when he walked down the aisle took Legolas a lot of effort to not tear everything in the courtyard where he was standing plus the people and then himself apart. He hated it, Aragorn hated it even more.
But he had to. It was his fate, after all.
„I would change it, if I could"
Legolas said to him, before the coronation started. Aragorn knew, and he would too.
Aragorn kneeled down in front of Gandalf, who carefully and slowly set the crown on his head.
He spoke words, but Legolas blended them out.
A few of his kin has arrived the day before, and with them, a letter from his father.
Thranduil knew what was going on. He said to Legolas to live his life with Aragorn, and he shall visit him whenever he wished.

Aragorn was standing on his feet again, searching desperately for accepting and optimistic looks in the crowd. For Legolas, it seemed like Aragorn was just making something up, as he very much saw accepting and approving eyes, but when Aragorns helpless expression filled with relief when he spotted Legolas, he realised that he looked for acceptance and optimism in Legolas' eyes, not in the crowd's. But Legolas could not gift him the look of optimism, wich did not surprise Aragorn. Yes, acceptance. But acceptance was a whole different thing than optimism. The elf could tolerate it. He could tolerate many things. But he could not support something that made Aragorn unhappy, nor be optimistic about it. Legolas, with a lot of effort forced himself to smile, already knowing that Aragorn recognised it as an „unreal" one, at least that is what he'd call it.

The big celebration started, wich resembled the elf celebrations a bit, found Legolas.
Gimli, in the meantime was head over heels on a fine looking woman, who wrapped him around the finger like a piece of thread.
Aragorn sat on a big throne, staring in the crowd. Legolas, of course, was by his side, letting his cold hand rest on his partner's shoulder.
Aragorn tilted his head up to the left, where Legolas was, making intense eye contact with him. He wished that Legolas wasn't there but on his lap, indulging him with his kisses. And if Legolas' look was anything to go by, he knew exactly what Aragorn wanted. In fact, he even wanted it too. Legolas was the first to break eye contact, to longingly look to the crowd wich was dancing. And who was Aragorn to not ask his prince for a dance?
„May I ask you for a dance, my precious elf?"
Legolas smiled and bowed slightly.
„It would be my pleasure, your majesty."
Aragorn rose and offered Legolas his arm, who happily hooked into it.
The people made way for the two, watching as Aragorn placed his hands on Legolas' waist, who wrapped his arms around the king's neck.
And they started to dance.

One could describe it as stunningly beautiful.
It was magically, how Legolas so lightly flew over the ground, how Aragorn kept him from taking off, yet allowing the elf to float.
And for that moment, the world seemed to stop in it's tracks, just for Legolas and Aragorn.
Just them, dancing together, neither of them breaking eye contact.

„I love you, Estel"
Said Legolas.
It was silent, yet loud enough just for Aragorn to hear it.
He meant it. He will never stop meaning it.
„I love you, Legolas"
Said Aragorn.
It was loud, yet silent enough for just Legolas to hear it.
He meant it. He will never stop meaning it.

Then, they wished that it mattered not if anyone was watching, but it did.
Yet, in their minds, in the reflection of their eyes, they did not care.
And they kissed, like no one was watching, not a uncontrolled one but a soft one.
Yes, a soft, long, beautiful kiss, like one hears it in the childhood stories, they shared in their minds, and it nearly broke their hearts that they not could do this with their mouths.
The music slowly stopped, softly yet brutally ripping them away from their little world they were in together.
The king and the prince slowly parted, bowing to each other, and leaving together, back to the throne again.
"I hope I could satisfy you with my dance steps my dear elf, yet I am sure that I could not live up to your expectations, I assume?"
Aragorn said teasingly.
Legolas had to grin for a moment.
"Yes, your majesty. You are but a bit clumsy, yet you fulfilled my expectations."
"Is that a compliment?"
"That, you must find out by yourself."
Legolas said,
but Aragorn swore that he heard a purr.
He smirked slightly and slowly used two fingers to draw circles onto the armrest of his throne.
Legolas eyes flickered, not staying unnoticed by Aragorn. The elf watched every movement carefully, then giving his best to focus on something else, yet his attention always drew back to Aragorn's hands.
"By the love of all that is holy Aragorn-"
Legolas started, but quickly silenced himself as he saw someone approaching his ranger.

"Your highness, I am feeling highly honoured to talk to you."
The man said, as he bowed deeply to Aragorn. Said one frowned, whilst Legolas raised an eyebrow.
"I am a rather well known reporter, and I and your folk would extremely appreciate it, if you would do nothing but answer a few questions. If you chose not to, we shall respect your answer."
He said.
Aragorn eyed Legolas for a second, who gave him a look no one -including Aragorn- would understand, so the king just pretended to and said what he thought was right.

"I will think about it, if I have decided, I will let my guards inform you"
"But of course, your highness, I thank you"
The reporter said, before disappearing back into the crowd.
Aragorn and Legolas exchanged a few looks, before Aragorn just shrugged it off.
"Let us give our best to enjoy the rest of the evening now, shall we?"
Aragorn said a bit too carelessly for Legolas liking, yet he tried to ignore it.
"We shall."
He answered.

sorry, I was really really busy or unmotivated the last days, so there wasn't an update. I think there'll be like two more chapters, then I'll (probably) start with the Barduil story!
