Chapter 1
Alanna was incredibly shocked when Cersei told her she got the job. She never would have imagined that she would have been ideal for something such as this. And on top of that one of her pictures was going to be in the magazine for Westroes Fashion Weekly.
"See, everything turned out fine."
Tyrion told Alanna on their walk back down stairs. The long hallway to the elevator made it seem like an even longer walk.
"I dunno how my father is going to react. He's rather strick when it comes to what I can and can't do."
Tyrion arches a brow looking up at the young woman.
"How old are you?"
She chuckles a bit and looked down at him.
"Twenty-two. Robb is just turned eight teen."
Tyrion found it odd that her father was so possessive over her at the age of a young adult. Still, he understood strick parenting. Stopping at the elevator Alanna pushed the button. They were in the middle of the building which had about 63 or so floors. The elevator was above them by several floors coming down, so they had a moment.
"Tell me, does your father even know you're here? When I spoke directly with your mother she seemed to have felt the same way that you feel."
Alanna inhaled deeply. But as she did Tyrion's cell phone begun to ring. He grabbed it out of his pocket and answered it. Alanna stood there watching the elevator slowly coming toward them. It wasn't long and with a few quick answers did Tyrion hang up the phone.
"I have to go do something quickly. One of the men is having trouble in the office on this floor Cersei just informed me. I won't be long."
He said causing Alanna to stutter. He smiled at her and told her she'd be fine and just to wait for him in the lobby. She watched as Tyrion hurried off back down the hall. It was only shortly after he turned the corner did the doors open and she went to step inside.
But she froze finding the man from before.
Tywin looked at Alanna. It was obvious he wasn't expecting to see her again, and from the expression on her face she felt the same about him.
"Going down?"
He questioned. Alanna was hesitant. But stepped inside quickly.
"Yes, thank you. Lobby."
She said seeing that the Lobby was already lit. She glanced back forward as she doors closed and kept her eyes on them. She didn't say anything as the elevator lowered almost aggervatingly slow.
"I imagine you got the job?"
Tywin questioned causing Alanna to look at him seeing he was looking straight ahead. She did the same.
"Yes. How did you know?"
She wondered causing Tywin to give a muffled laugh. His eyes looking at the lights above which told him which floor they were on.
"Because I'm the one that told Cersei to higher you."
Alanna quickly whipped her head back to look at the man who she still hadn't had the pleasure of knowing his name. But whoever this man was if he had enough power to convince Cersei, then he must have been important.
"I'm Alanna. Alanna Stark."
She told him causing him for the first time since she entered the elevator to actually look at her.
"Tywin Lannister."
Her eyes widened. She hasn't for a second even imagined that this man was the richest man in the world and owner of this multi-billion dollar company.
"Nice to meet you, sir."
She said trying to sound as normal as possible but probably failing horribly at the attempt. Tywin nodded his head and turned back to look at the floors they were passing. They were getting close to the lobby.
The two of them were quiet for a long moment longer until Tywin spoke up.
"You know, it's polite to thank the person who helped you get your new job."
Alanna's eyes widened as she looked at him once more.
"I -- I'm sorry. I just wasn't thinking."
She said only partly honest. Truth be told she didn't want the job in the first place, but if Tywin Lannister wanted her to work for his daughter how was she possibly going to refuse?
"You didn't want the job?"
He asked seeming confused for a moment. Alanna shook her head.
"I didn't think I'd get the job. It's not that I didn't want it. I just came into it knowing I wouldn't get it."
Tywin studied her for a moment. He looked at her before he chuckled and the elevator came to a stop. But before the doors opened, Tywin pressed the autostop button startling Alanna and causing the doors to stay closed.
"Lack of confidence will get you no where in this career."
He said turning to face her. She backed away a bit looking up at him.
"Others will eat you alive. Take your self doubt and bury you along with it. Remember Alanna. Use your talents."
Alanna stood there completely dumbfounded. Had Tywin Lannister actually just given her advice? That didn't seem anything like the ruthless man she had known so much about. But even before she could think of anything else to say Tywin opened the elevator doors and gave her a slight bow of goodbyes and left the elevator.
Alanna stepped off as well and watched as he walked briskly across the marble floored lobby and toward the revouvling door.
Leaving her to ponder his words while she waited for Tyrion in the lobby.
Alanna used her house keys to enter in through the front door. She was surprised to see some furniture in the living room now. Turning and locking the door back, she listened to Arya yelling about something upstairs.
Rolling her eyes she sighed.
There never seemed to be a dull moment in this home. As Alanna entered the dining room and into the kitchen she noticed Jon rummaging through the fridge.
"Hey."
She greeted causing the man to pop his head out of the fridge with a piece of left over sandwich in his mouth. Alanna couldn't help but chuckle seeing Jon eating while rummaging through the fridge. He pulled out a drink and shut the door.
"Hey. Where have you been all day?"
He questioned. Alanna rolled her eyes and pulled out a stool to sit at the bar at the kitchen.
"You wouldn't believe me even if I told you."
She said looking at him. Jon took a bite into his sandwich while popping open his drink and sipping on it causing the food to go down smoother.
"I seen you leaving with Kat early this morning. Did you go to work with her?"
"Wow what're you a detective now?"
She asked chuckling as she plucked at the fake fruit that sat in the bowl on the counter in front of her. Jon moved toward the bar and stood in front of her. Placing his drink down he took another bite, speaking with his mouth full.
"You know you're the favorite of Kat's right? Robb might be the first boy, but you're her first."
"Yeah? I'm the favorite always have been. Your point?"
Jon huffed.
"My point is that she's going to want what's best for you. But you have to be careful."
Alanna was quiet. Why was Jon suddenly trying to play the part of the big brother when he clearly wasn't. Something must have been up.
"Jon? Is something wrong?"
She asked looking at her half brother. He chewed up more of his sandwich before putting that down as well. He sighed deeply.
"I'm enlisting in the army."
Alanna's eyes widened. He was going to enlist?
"And when were you planning on running this past all of us first?"
"I already spoke to Ned about it. He's willing to sign my papers if that's what I want to do."
"Jon, you're only seventeen!"
Alanna snapped. Jon shook his head.
"I know. But you know as well as I do that once I turn eighteen Kat will have me thrown out into the streets because I'm not hers."
"Jon -- "
"I won't be around much longer Alanna. Soon I'll be off at basic and then stationed somewhere up North more than likely."
She frowned deeply. She didn't like this at all. Her little brother going off to fight and protect strangers. It was horrible but she thought it was stupid of him to want to do. She loved him like her full blooded brothers and wanted to keep him safe just like Robb and Brian.
"All I'm saying is that when I'm gone, keep in mind what's best for you and not what Kat or Ned think is best."
He said. Alanna felt her heart breaking. She had always been the child to be held in the highest regards.
She was first born and it was up to her to help her other siblings find their way in the world. But along the way she had felt as if she lost herself and finding her own path. She had always been so hell-bent on listening to her mother and father and pleasing them that she never really did anything for herself.
Just like today with the modeling auditions. It wasn't something that she wanted to do but it was something that her mother wanted her to do. She understood what he was saying and that she would have to take her own feelings into consideration and not rely so much on the demands of her parents anymore.
"When do you leave?"
"Soon. Possibly as soon as next week."
Alanna scoffed. He must have had their father already sign the papers. He had been keeping this to himself for a while.
"Does anyone else know?"
"Robb. He's the only other one who knows."
Alanna nodded her head. She understood that her half-brother never really fit in. Her mother never truly accepted him as her own when her father returned with him as a small baby in his arms after a business trip. Her father had been gone for nearly two years when he returned with the small brunette baby in his arms.
She remembered that she believes her parents were going to get a divorce because of what happened. But her mother never did file and in the end things seem to just work themselves out. Kind of like what was happening now.
"You take care of yourself. If I find out that you die... I'll come kill you myself."
Jon's eyes widened as he looked at his sister shocked. It was then he gave an uneasy laugh not putting it past her to say something like that to him.
"I'll do my best to stay alive so I don't incontinence you too much."
That made Alanna laugh a warm type of laughter that echoed through the house.
Knowing she would miss moments like this with him terribly.
It was the end of the day of a photo shoot and Alanna had been approached by Tyrion. Two weeks had passed and Jon had left for the army. She had never felt more anxious in all her life when Tyrion told her what he had to tell her.
"We're having a party at the house. I'd like it if you came."
Tyrion told Alanna as she took her hair and tied it up into a pony tail behind her head. She had changed back into her normal clothes and was now walking out of the shoot beside Tyrion.
"A house party? For what?"
She questioned looking at Tyrion. He cleared his throat and looked up at her.
"My nephew is having his sweet sixteen. And in order for it to not be dreadfully boring I thought I'd invite some lively company."
Alanna chuckled.
"And you thought of me when you think lively?"
Tyrion couldn't help but smirk at her smart remark.
"Well, you're last on the list, but yes."
This caused her to bust out with a loud laugh. Tyrion smirked watching the younger woman laughing at his jokes. It felt good to have someone else laughing that he wasn't personally paying.
"Joffery huh? Can I bring my sister or is it just me?"
Tyrion shrugged his shoulders.
"She has the biggest crush on him. Has since she seen his picture in a magazine."
Tyrion rolled his eyes. Yes of course a young girl like Sansa would be drawn to someone like Joffery.
"Bring her if you want. But make sure to dress. There's a code."
"A dress code at a sweet sixteen? God you guys are rich aren't you?"
"Very much so."
Alanna showed up with Sansa in tow to the Lannister house. They were both dressed in dresses and looked rather dashing. Sansa went for a light blue while Alanna decided to go for a black to slim her figure and focused more on her better curves. Not that she was trying to impress anyone, just to make herself feel better being around people who would constantly be looking at her.
"Hello. Welcome. Invitations?"
The man at the door said. Alanna stood there puzzled. Tyrion hasn't given her any invitations. But she noticed why when he came to the door.
"They're with me. Thank you Henry."
He said as he shooed the man at the door away. The man gave a slight bow and removed himself from the door. Alanna took that moment to enter the home with Sansa.
Looking around the whole house was white washed just like theirs. High vaulted ceilings that were decked out in golden trim. Their company Sigel of the golden lion among the red background was framed in a large portraits above the double stairwell that split down the middle. And this was just their lobby. The rest of the house was matching in beauty and wealth.
"Your home is amazing."
Alanna said as she followed Tyrion into the main room, Sansa not far behind.
Music was playing and many, many friends and family were gathered around. People looked at the two knowing that they were out of place, but didn't mind speaking directly to them.
"Thank you. Would you care for a drink?"
Tyrion questioned. Alanna was unsure as she noticed Tyrion was directing her toward the bar. She shook her head a little.
"No thank you. I'd rather not."
She said with a small smile. Tyrion nodded, understanding perfectly well.
"Sansa, I do believe Joffery is out on the patio."
Tyrion told the younger girl who seemed to grow excited yet nervous. She looked toward her sister, Alanna nodded giving her the okay to go find Joffery. Alanna watched as she disappeared out of sight.
"So, Alanna, do you have anyone you're currently chasing after like your younger sister?"
Tyrion questioned. Alanna looked at him rather baffled. Such a bold question wasn't one that she was expecting to hear from him. But with his drink now in hand and sitting at the bar, she figured that he was converting to his usual and less business persona.
"Uh. No. No I uh... dating was never really something I was allowed to do growing up, father never allowed it."
She said looking at Tyrion. He arched a brow before taking another sip then hummed.
"I see. My father forced my sister to marry young. As you probably remember reading in your history books, my father helped King Robert overthrow the horrible King that once rules over us eighteen years ago."
Alanna did indeed remember reading and doing reports in school over the whole overthrow of the country.
"With his company, he helped Robert and in turn told Robert that his daughter was ripe for the taking. And well, you know how the rest goes. I'm rather surprised your father hasn't done a match for you to some rich snob or young Prince?"
"We're not made of money and aren't royal. Father might be King Robert's friend, second in command, but that's all nothing more."
Alanna told Tyrion. The man chuckled a bit and ran his finger across his whisky glass.
"You don't know true power when you see it do you?"
"Beg your pardon?"
She asked wondering what he meant by his question. Tyrion didn't reply however and his gaze turned else where in the room. Alanna looked and noticed that one of the waitresses was looking at Tyrion. She was pretty, skinny, and had darker skin. When she noticed Alanna looking she turned away quickly and went back to serving drinks.
Alanna gazed down at her feet before looking to Tyrion.
"Excuse me, I need the restroom."
She said. Tyrion nodded.
"There's one on the main floor by the kitchen."
Tyrion pointed back toward the lobby. Alanna thanked him and headed that way. The noise of the party started to grow quieter like it had been when she first entered the house. Walking through the lobby she was stopped by a voice.
"Not leaving yet are you?"
Halting her steps Alanna turned and seen Tywin at the top of the stairwell. She gazed up at him. The only difference today was he was without his walking cane. Aside from that he still wore a nice suit and was clean looking.
"The room is crowded. Needed to get away for a moment."
Tywin hummed and nodded almost as if in approval of what she said. Motioning his head toward the upper floor he spoke.
"Come. It's much quieter up here. Nobody up here to bother you and talk about who is out doing who in the world."
He said turning to the side to head back up only to pause long enough to see Alanna still standing in her spot. He looked at her with a slightly amused expression.
"Come. We'll have tea and talk about your position in my company."
